Okay now back on topic. Here's what I've read since my last update late last month. Heroes Die and Blade of Tyshalle which are like 6 star books. My first foray into science fantasy and I freaking LOVED them. I'm actually going to review the books and that's earth shattering in itself. Also went on a Lawhead kick and read The Paradise War, The Silver Hand, The Endless Knot, Hood, Scarlet, Tuck, Taliesin, Merlin and Arthur. All solid 4 star series. I read Tomato Rhapsody: A Novel of Love, Lust, and Forbidden Fruit for the group read and re-read the Farseer Trilogy for the buddy read (tho im not counting them towards my challenge since it's my umpteenth re-read of them). Also read Snake Agent based on Carol's recommendation which I really enjoyed (4 stars). Dweller was neither scary nor good and left me Mega depressed. The Left Hand of God started well and ended poorly. The Rising Tide: A Novel of World War II and The Steel Wave: A Novel of World War II were both Excellent WWII novels. Shaara always puts out a great war book. I just finished up Storm Front, Fool Moon, Grave Peril and Summer Knight in preparation for Ghost Story. I'll finish my Dresen re-read next month. I'll knock out Elantris, The Chosen and Retribution Falls first though. Okay...I think I'm caught up now :)

And congratulations on finally watching the classic! :D
We watch Casablanca every couple of years and then follow it up with The African Queen with Bogie and Hepburn. Kate is one of my all time favorite actresses. They really clicked in this movie.
Hey self, which version did you watch?
And, so you know, HAN SHOT FIRST DAMNIT.
And, so you know, HAN SHOT FIRST DAMNIT.
I feel it is my nerd duty to inform you all that I bought a good friend a "Han Shot First" t-shirt for his birthday a few years back. He still brings it out on special occasions!I love Star Wars!
Lol, thanks MrsJ. I watched a non revamped version Ala so no brand new CGI and the such. Should I have watched the touched up version instead?
Nope, you did good.
The touched up ones you can watch later, if only because the visuals are better/cleaner.
Just ignore anything that has to do with Han not shooting first, that's all.

Carrie Fisher has made comments about the fact that, not only was the thing hideously uncomfortable, the fact that it was not flexible at all meant the Jabba the Hut guy had a perfectly clear view into it.
Anyway, I'm currently reading Catch-22 and The Pale King and am trying to decide if it's completely crazy to try to finish them and pick up and finish Royal Assassin by the end of the month. *mutters about having too many BoTMs and too little time*
Ah geez...David Foster Wallace. That just makes me sad. I'd considered reading The Pale King but I just couldn't bring myself to start an unfinished novel. If you've never read him before, Denae, I highly, highly recommend Infinite Jest. Most folks our age, specifically most folks like us, really connect with the book.
You'd think that they would've used rubber or something and painted the bikini to look like metal. O_o

Obviously, I'll be joining the discussion late.
As for the bikini, maybe the other actor bribed them. I still find it less bizarre than them not using a wig for Leia.
Grant, I started the second Caine book.
Now go get The Empire Strikes Back and watch it.

So whaddya think of Caine? Do you agree with my badassery assessment?
Oh yeah, he's badass alright. He reminds me of The Bloody Nine, only without that slightly whiny remorse.
Jason: Heroes Die. Main character is named Caine.

Jason, I actually took the time to review Heroes Die which is rare enough to show how much I enjoyed it. Neither the book or my review are for the timid or meek tho. Let me know what you think of the book if you read it, bro!

I just finished Catch-22. Tomorrow I'm hoping to finish The Pale King and Royal Assassin, but time may interfere. Then it's on to all the July BoTMs, plus re-reading books 2-4 of ASoIaF before the 12th. Hooray for unemployment(?)
I've had to put Shadow's Edgeon hold for now. I've got three books to read for my English Studies class: Tess of the D'Urbervilles, The Kite Runner and The Taming of the Shrew
Love the Eye of the World :) great, great fantasy. Hmm...I've read and enjoyed two out of the three of those, Laura. Never read the Kite Runner tho
lol--the reviews for The Kite Runner are even better. :)I think I'm going to re-read Claire DeWitt and the City of the Dead.
I haven't started reading the Kite Runner yet. I'm tackling Tess of the D'Urbervilles first. I've read the Taming of the Shrew in previous years, but I'll read it again just to refresh my memory. I must say, I've read a lot of interesting books in year 12 English. I've read One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and The Crucible for various assignments. Love a subject where there is a lot of reading involved :)
I am going to start The Left Hand of God by Paul Hoffman tomorrow. It sounds like it will be good...I would start it tonight but I'm making time to play Red Dead Redemption.
Amanda wrote: "I am going to start The Left Hand of God by Paul Hoffman tomorrow. It sounds like it will be good...I would start it tonight but I'm making time to play Red Dead Redemption."Red Dead Redemption is an awesome game!
I know, isn't it? The problem is that it takes up my reading time...I finally solved this by not sleeping as much ;)
Amanda wrote: "I am going to start The Left Hand of God by Paul Hoffman tomorrow. It sounds like it will be good..."I've been eyeing this one for awhile. Let us know how it is. :>
I am not reading either group read this month so hopefully I will catch up on all my other stuff! If it wasn't a vacation weekend I might get away with sitting around reading, but I have a feeling I am not going to get a lot of reading in this weekend!
*sigh* Maggie, Maggie. Obligations of work, family life, pets and housecleaning are no excuse for not reading. Just do what Amanda does, and sleep less. Really, how much sleep do you need anyway?Of course, I'm full of it, because I need my solid 8
:)
Tracey wrote: "I just finished The Stand, and I loved it. I had a dim view of King most of my life - and now The Stand and On Writing are two of my favorite books. That should teach m..."two words: split bundle
Another friend told me about it. She created a shelf named "split bundle" and puts all her individual books that are actually omnibuses there. You get credit for your books and your library entry is good. :-)
I might have been a bit bitter on the whole attack of the warded man thing...:Pbut decided to catch up instead
Ok, so I lied and read The Windup Girl instead of The Left Hand of God. I will get to it tonight though...maybe tomorrow. But I will let you know how I like it, Colleen.
Ahh....Amanda, The Left Hand of God starts off well but ends rather poorly. Let me know what you end up thinking about it!
Tracey, I'm glad you liked The Stand! Fantastic read :)
Michael, is this your first time reading Storm Front?

Have a great weekend!I'm supposed to go to a baseball game tonight but it's so hot I'm starting to re-think that.
It's way to hot here in TX to spend any time outside, unless it's pitch dark. I just hide indoors. I think I must be a nightwalker. :)
I am reading (based on Lady Danielle's recommendation and great review) God's War and I am really enjoying it. Thanks for the recommendation!
I just started The Snow Queen and will probably start my A Clash of Kings re-read today or tomorrow. I also need to catch up on The Pickwick Papers and read some more of The Christ-Haunted Landscape: Faith and Doubt in Southern Fiction.
Amanda wrote: "I am going to start The Left Hand of God by Paul Hoffman tomorrow. I haven't played it in a few weeks though, been trying to catch up on my reading. But every time I watch my guy playing (we're on Undead Nightmare now) I want to take the controller and play myself! I'm still reading The Stand too, almost done! Don't know what I'll read after I finish it.
I just could not get into The Stand and found it extremely frustrating. I think the characters were so stereotyppical it was just a turn-off. A friend recommended I read Swan Song instead, and I found it a much more beleivable version of post-apocalypse
