Finished my rewatch of Willow. Now I can, hopefully, have a better understanding of some of the characters in Shadow Moon.

I think you'd really like Otherland, Nicki. I know a lot of people avoid it because of the length, but you like bricks so that shouldn't be a problem for you. I really really enjoyed them!
I've been wanting to read Otherland for years. I did read the story in Legends II and thought it was very cool.

Saw the Kobo on sale at a border's thats going out of business for 60 bucks
So I haven't actually posted my current reads since the last day of February. I suppose it's time to catch up :) March has been a great reading month with some awesome, awesome books. Most notably I read The Wise Man's Fear twice and freaking adored it. I also read and loved The Crippled God. The Heroes was a bitter disappointment but I suppose you can't have everything all the time. In addition to the already named novels I've also read The Well of Ascension, The Hero of Ages, Perdido Street Station, The Scar, On the Beach, War and Remembrance(amazing historical novel), The Black Prism and The Soul Mirror. I haven't read as many novels as I typically do in this span of time but the ones I did read were fairly large volumes. I think I may read The Crippled God again. So freaking good!
Currently I'm reading The Man With the Golden Torc, Kushiel's Dart and Pale Demon. Got a big month ahead in April as well!

How's Perdido Street Station, Eileen? I'm enjoying A Carnivore's Inquiry audio and will be getting the eBook so I can reference the interesting history on cannibalism that the heroine was musing over.
about halfway into The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms and am finding it to be a wonderful experience.mrs joseph, i would like to recommend this one to you! i think you would like it.
I've been eyeballing The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms. Nearly bought it this weekend actually. What are you enjoying about it, Mark?
it has a nice, light, breezy feel to it - but it is far from shallow and the narrator is sardonic but very serious. i really like strong female characters in general - but she's not a cliche warrior princess, but rather a calm character who is carefully studying the world around her.the world has a genuine complexity to it but the novel does not feel complex. it is a much more straightforward read than much of what i've read in the past year (martin, erikson, valente, even kay & abercrombie). at times it is almost YA in style, which i don't mind at all, but which some folks may find to be simplistic.
the magical elements are front and center, and constant. which is also sort of refreshing because much of what i've been reading has de-emphasized magic a bit.
and it features gods! multiple enslaved gods with wonderfully idiosnycratic personalities.

Oh MrsJ I forgot to tell you I thought of a fav fantasy of mine with a strong black female lead character! I'll pm ya after I get home from work. For now, back to the grind.
Mark, thanks for the description. I'm ordering it tonight :) gotta love sardonic!

ok matthew-enlighten me-one of my friends told me I would not like 100000 kingdoms because it was full of gratutous sex, and even went so far as to call it the 100000 positions! Is it that over the top?

Creepy, the characters are wonderfully different. I really enjoy people who are different..LOL
Looking forward to see how it ends!

so far i haven't seen anything that i'd call "gratuitous sex". but then i am only barely halfway through, it may be lurking right around the corner!
There's only two sex scenes, if I recall correctly. And they aren't even gratuitous...
I am currently now reading The Knight and Knave of Swords , the last Fafhrd and Gray Mouser, probably not a great idea in the reading the last book, if I have not read any of the other books in the series.
i don't know if i'd call the HTK sex scene that i've read so far "badly written"....although it takes place in a bathroom, which was sort of odd when thinking of who the protagonist is having sex with! although there was a lot of trembling, heaving, etc, which i suppose are hallmarks of bad sex scenes. but it just didn't stand out to me as particularly eye-rolling. i haven't rolled my eyes once when reading this great novel!
HTK=Hundred Thousand Kingdoms, Kevin.
Chris wrote: "I don't think Nicki was saying the book as a whole was poorly written, just the sex scenes."I know, that's what I meant; I didn't personally think they were poorly written.
Ala wrote: "HTK=Hundred Thousand Kingdoms, Kevin."Wow. For a second I thought you said "Hundred Thousand Kevins".
Geez. I'd say that's pretty horrendously awful writing. Erotica just isnt my thing. Im not one for that type of description. I think I'll pass after all. I'm far, far from a prude but I just don't see how that kind of thing could even remotely add to a story's integrity.
It's only the two scenes, Grant. The rest of the story made up for it.
Lol @Ala. You also said they weren't gratuitous you kinky bastard!
Seriously tho, I'll keep that in mind. I'm in no hurry tho. Have tons to read atm.

Pfft. Like you wouldn't sex up a god/goddess if you had the chance.
Oh well duh. Heh I just wouldn't write about it. I'd brag out loud the old fashioned way ;)

Ah. Lie about it. Gotcha. :P

Lol damn right I'd lie. I'm a proud fella but who could hang in the sack with a literal goddess?
Nicki wrote: When heavy, thick warmth pushed into me, I had no idea whether this was a penis or some entirely different phallus that only gods posessed. I suspect the latter, since no mere penis can fill a woman's body the way he filled mine. Size had nothing to do with it. This time he let me scream."LOL, that was really funny, i don't think i will be reading that book.
I read a few erotica, and this is cheesy! LOLMachavelli wrote: "Nicki wrote: When heavy, thick warmth pushed into me, I had no idea whether this was a penis or some entirely different phallus that only gods posessed. I suspect the latter, since no mere penis ca..."
So last night I finished The Wise Man's Fear, and was at a loss as to what to read next... I did an eenie-meenie-miinie-mo on my book shelf and ended up choosing Storm Front. My first ever Dresden book. I can't help but imagine it being read like one of those old school private detective shows...
Dresden? Ahh...you'll have to let us know if it's as good as all the mega-hype.My library has it. I think they have the whole series.
