I'm reading "Gone with the wind" and, hands down, so far this is the best book I've ever read in my life. Except may be "The Godfather", but they are way different.
Just bought and started my first book of Joe Abercrombie's Best Served Cold, which a lot of people love. Its get me hooked. I'm starting to become a fan of his works.

IMO, one of the best mercenary books written and well worth the read. Especially as there are around 6 more related books after the initial series.

In fact, all I currently have is a very beat up hardcover omnibus of the first 3 books.
Time to search the used book shops again.
Brett wrote: "The Black Company series is fantastic. I have read through about 4 copies of the books. Either by giving them to friends or simply wearing out. Great story."I did end up enjoying The Black Company but it did take me a while to "get into it." I almost gave up because I have a "100 page rule" but people I respect told me to keep going and I'm glad I did.
I'm now reading Yes, Chef: A Memoir, and it's well written (I'm always a little wary with memoirs and autobiographies by non-writers). But all the talk of delicious food in it's pages is making me HUNGRY! I might be fat by the time I finish this one!

"I've 3 or so SFBC omnibuses of this, started it once and could not get into it at all. I could not abide the dialogue style at the time. So many like it though, I'm planning on another try.
Is this Fantasy or Sci-Fi?

It had a great influence on Erikson's writing.
I love the Black Company series, especially the last book, Soldier Lives. Its so epic how he ends the series.
I just finished reading a book by C J Henderson entitled "Kolchak: The Night stalker, The Lost World" Based on the 70's TV show it was a fun,. short read that I really enjoyed.
I just started Falls the Shadow by Melissa Sasina(so far so good) Hope the last 2 bks in her priestess trilogy release on kindle soon-
I'm just starting Day of the Predator the second in a series of YA time-travel adventures.Dinosaurs and Time Travel :-) should be right up my street.

I've been wanting to read that series. Is it good?

Very good so far - lots of interesting characters and time travel scenarios, and an interesting ongoing arch across the books
Gardens of the Moon. For the third time. I've been in such a funk lately. With reading and everything else that I'm turning to a favorite. =)

Thanks I'll see if I can find it at my library now.
Still trying work my way through Knife of Dreams almost halfway done. Taken me two years to get this far.
I am reading The Eye of the World. Going to read all of them in order and continuously. Hopefully I won't get distracted by a pretty new release. I am determined!

We had company (plus the Olympics are on). SO I still have lots of Kate to read!
Carol wrote: "I challenge you to get through 50% of your Owned-books-to-be-read list. How's that for 'Olympic?'
;D"
O_O
flees
I read The Black Prism last week, and am now reading The Night Circus. I like Night Circus considerably more.

Fantasy Olympics? Would that be like Freestyle Prophecy? Symbolic Hurdles? Dungeoneering Relay, using The One Ring instead of a stick?
How about the G.R.R.Martin marathon? Sit down and read through the entire series (to this point) without stopping.
I was thinking along the line of events and games.Go for the Gold! Read books/themes A, B, C, D
What country are you from/represent? Read an author from that country or a book set in that country.
Series Sprint!* You and a friend (or several friends) all read a series at the same time. First one who finishes gets a virtual cookie. ;-)

Just finished the trilogy that follows Martha Wells' The Death of the Necromancer. They take place a generation after, chronologically. Those books have been on my TBR pile for a long time, and the re read of Necromancer pushed them to the top.I think the reason I waited was that the earlier story was so solid, it was hard to re-connect to the new sets of characters.
Once I got involved, it was very enjoyable. Wells has a sharp hand at keeping the action on the boil.
I'm on to the 10th Harry Dresden novel, Small Favor. Let's see what supernatural baddies beat Harry up this time!
Dead Man's Song by Jonathan Maberry. Book 2 of the Pine Deep Trilogy. It's horror at it's finest.Too Many Curses by A Lee Martinez. Martinez writes some of the most hilarious fiction out there. He covers all genres with this one being Urban Fantasy.
Mind Storm by K M Ruiz is the Science Fiction novel I am reading as well.
I generally have 2-3 books going at once.
I'm juggling too many books right now. They are all getting neglected for the Olympics. I ♥ the Olympics.
Currently reading Under the Dome.King seems to be going for plot over characters this time which is unusual for him but a good read so far.
I just bought C.J. Cherryh's Merovingen Nights series to re-read after many years: Angel with the Sword and then seven books of short stories by authors in the same reality, including Cherryh.
I know it's not fantasy but I'm currently reading The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes on my ereader. I'm trying to break-up reading fantasy/scifi with classics that I haven't read. I'm finding that there's a lot of really good classics that I would have never thought to read.
MrsJoseph wrote: "Magic BleedsI need to stop. I'm going through them too fast!"
Do it, do it, do it! Then you can just re-read them when you are ready. Aren't they fabulous?
I'm taking a break from fantasy and reading some detective fiction--Lawrence Block's Matthew Scudder series. Great characters and fast reads.
