Soraia (sharonbhz) | 27 comments I haven't even tried HON, so I can't say anything about that one, but I absolutely hated Blue Bloods, by Melissa de la Cruz - that's top worst for me. Couldn't even go to the second book.

Then The Vampire Diaries, L.J. Smith. I read the first four by sheer force of will. I love the TV series but the writers are doing a miracle with it, the books are just awful.

message 202: by Destiny (new)

Destiny (destiny84) I couldn't get into Larissa Ione's Demonica series, the writing style and worldbuilding just wasn't for me. I think I'll avoid books about demons from now on.

If thats wrong then what do you call a married woman with two kids that has an Edward pillow case so I can say I sleep with him every night LOL??????

Regina (reginar) Lol!!!

I havent read the books, but I so do not like the show! :P I do like the sound of it, but it's just not working for me.

Really? Perhaps it's easier to like after reading the books and seeing the miracle they are doing with it for the tv series. Or maybe we just have different tastes Don't know. lol.

Tracy T. | 252 comments The worst series I've read is the Sons of Destiny series by Jean Johnson. The writing is subpar and the heroines are annoying (especially Kelly). The idea was really well thought out but the execution was just bad. Unfortunately I'm one of those people who have to finish a series no matter what, so I have 2 more books to go.

message 209: by Nita (new)

Nita (gillnit) Tracy wrote: "The worst series I've read is the Sons of Destiny series by Jean Johnson. The writing is subpar and the heroines are annoying (especially Kelly). The idea was really well thought ..."

I agree! I kind of enjoyed the first three in the series, but then they just got worse and worse. And I HATED when she would describe how their magic worked. I felt like I was being lectured to and it would go on for pages and pages. I kept reading them because I really wanted to read the last book with Morganen, and even though I read through the seventh book, I can't get myself to read The Mage. I know I will be disappointed.

Kelly just rubbed me the wrong way, especially when she turned into a know it all. I mean they spent the majority of one of the books building a cell phone system. Johnson didn't have to lecture us on how cell phones work; I'm pretty sure we all know.

message 211: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (aliciavillasenor) | 30 comments Twilight was by far the worst for me. Even if I don't really care for a book, I really try to finish it but when it came to this one, I got half-way through and never picked it back up. Way too boring for me.

message 212: by Carri (new)

Carri (carrifedor) The Vampire Diaries are Horrible!!! I actually like the show more, which is very odd! What do you mean by "BDB"?

message 213: by [deleted user] (new)

Black Dagger Brotherhood series by JR Ward.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 411 comments I love that series! Although I can see a few people don't.

message 215: by Heather in FL (new)

Heather in FL (heather_fl) Suzanne wrote: "I love that series! Although I can see a few people don't."

I was thinking the same thing about several of the series in this thread... but everyone is entitled to their opinion. I just hope the appearance of a series on this thread doesn't keep people from trying them at all.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 411 comments That's very true. It hasn't put me off any yet, although I like to see what other people think. Although with all the YA series I wouldn't read anyway for some reason they just don't appeal.

However, BDB already has a lot of obsessive crazy fans (including me) so I suppose it doesn't hurt to have some people not like it lol

message 217: by MsBeaglely (new)

MsBeaglely | 118 comments I don't know if they are the worst, but I defintely hated the following series.

The Devil Inside (Morgan Kingsley, #1) by Jenna Black Servant The Awakening by L.L. Foster Howling at the Moon (Tales of an Urban Werewolf, #1) by Karen MacInerney

message 218: by Heather (new)

Heather | 243 comments Jen, what was it about Servant that you didn't like? This was Foster's first stab at paranormal

message 219: by MsBeaglely (new)

MsBeaglely | 118 comments Heather wrote: "Jen, what was it about Servant that you didn't like? This was Foster's first stab at paranormal"

I thought it was incredibly boring. Gaby’s mission in life is to serve God by hunting down “demons” and destroying them. Just exactly what these demons are was never disclosed & I often wondered if perhaps the evil Gaby was hunting was just a figment of her imagination. There is very little action in the book, with most of the storyline consisting of Gaby’s interaction with Mort & Luther Cross. Gaby is always rude and nasty to Mort and one has to wonder why he continued trying to be her friend. Plus, the dialogue between Gaby & Luther was so stupid.

message 220: by Amy (new)

Amy (amescat) | 279 comments Lucinda, Darkly (Demon Princess Chronicles, #1) by Sunny

I finished this book but it was a struggle and I can't bring myself to read anything else by her.

message 221: by Heather (new)

Heather | 243 comments Jen, I liked the series cause I thought Gabby was cute with Luther when she didn't understand love and stuff. I do agree with you and you made some serious valid points..

message 222: by Stephine (new)

Stephine (paranormalhaven) | 81 comments I tried Laurell K Hamilton's Meredith Gentry and Anita Blake series but I could not read more than the 1st book in both. I know there are a lot of fans of her but her books are not for me.

message 223: by Sasa (new)

Sasa (sasaboba) | 25 comments Ugh! I absolutely loathe the Twilight series and the Argeneau series. I've only read through the first book as far as Twilight goes but I could only get halfway through A Quick Bite (the first book) before restraining myself from throwing it out a window or against a wall. I've written reviews for both so I won't rant about it here but, just letting you know, the Argeneau series is worst than Twilight...at least Twilight was lulzy.

message 224: by Pam G (new)

Pam G (pgarey) I tried Shelly Laurenston's The Mane Event because I heard it was laugh out loud funny, but I gotta say I didn't care for the humor at all. Not my cuppa, I guess. I also gave up on Be Mine Tonight, just didn't "suck me in" - didn't care for the characters at all. Interesting to see what everyone thinks, but I won't not read a series because of these posts. Different strokes, right?

I haven't read Twilight so I'm not going to say I hate the books but what I do hate is how when people learn that I'm reading a vampire book they ask 'so is it like Twilight?' Hell no it's not like Twilight!

Addy | 1 comments Deanne wrote: "Vampire Kisses I thought they were the horrible!!!
As well as Vampire Diaries the first book was ok but it went downhill from there."

I absolutly hated vampire kisses too!!! it was just awful the main girl is sixteen but she acts like a two year old...this book drove me up the wall.

message 227: by Crystal (new)

Crystal (angelicvise83) | 2 comments The worst I've read to date is Primal Instinct series by Rhyannon Byrd. Theres a big difference between having some sex scenes in it, or making the whole book one big sex novel. Gave up after the first book.

I KNOW, RIGHT?! It's so annoying that Twilight has become some kind of namesake for vampires when there are better vampire stories like Dracula and whatnot. I forgot what list it was but it's a popular vampire list on Goodreads where Twilight actually TOPPED Dracula for the #1 spot. I was so upset. And it's even worst when I see people who have impeccable taste in books fall head-over-heels for Twilight...it's not the only vampire book out there, y'know.

message 229: by Jen ~The dreamer~ (new)

Jen ~The dreamer~ | 649 comments I also get annoyed when I'm reading a good vamp book and someone asks if it is as good as Twilight. I answer simply, Of course, what vamp book ISN'T better than Twilight? I also remind them Twilight isn't the first vampire novel or series out there. Then I force my favorite vampire novels on to them and quiz them later. ;) LOL

message 230: by Crystal (new)

Crystal (angelicvise83) | 2 comments The message twilight sends is Vampires don't drink blood and they glitter in the sun. No fun there!

message 231: by [deleted user] (new)

I love Twilight (but seriously, not as a vamp book, lol) but I hate when people think all vamp stories have to be like Twilight or have to compare to Twilight. Or they ask for reads like Twilight, and people rec all these deep, sexy vampire series, and I'm just thinking "that's NOTHING like Twilight".

To me, Twilight is a love story alone, it ISN'T a vampire story, because really, the Cullens aren't vampires. They just aren't.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 411 comments I always thought that the love story between Bella and Edward was weird, although he is in a 17 year olds body he is over 100 years old (I think) and she is just 17, cradle snatcher or what?

message 233: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) And then she had this unhealthy obsession with growing old! LOL.

Totally agree.. only I gave it three books before I realized just how horrible they were. I now avoid her stuff like the plague

message 235: by [deleted user] (new)

Haha, I'm glad I gave up after the first few chapters of the first book!

Juli (mrsmarit) Smut Bitch wrote: "Haha, I'm glad I gave up after the first few chapters of the first book!"

God I wish I had... I just kept expecting it to get better. My mother had sent them to me and she usually has similar tastes... not that time.

Sasa (sasaboba) | 25 comments Suzanne wrote: "I always thought that the love story between Bella and Edward was weird, although he is in a 17 year olds body he is over 100 years old (I think) and she is just 17, cradle snatcher or what?"

LOL~ what vampire-human love story isn't like that? Some vampires are 800-years-old XD But that's not really the point. I personally think Twilight is sets the worst examples for people, especially kids. Without ranting (I will try), I'm just gonna list a few reasons: 1) It's misogynistic and hugely patriarchal (Edward and Jacob are both controlling and whiny, Bella follows his every whim...I could go on), 2) it gives people the idea that being creepy and stalkerish is attractive (a freshman got his equally creepy girlfriend by acting like Edward my senior year of high school), and 3) it's okay to act dim-witted and overdramatic because those traits are so attractive.

There's more but I won't get into it (that's why I haz a review XP). At most, it's lulzy but it still doesn't deserve to top Dracula nor any other vampire novel for that matter. Either people have extremely bad taste in vampires or there's an apocalypse. I would have no difficulty believing the latter is occurring as Twilight shrines are taking over my local bookstores and libraries.

On the other hand, I am looking forward to the release of its parody, Vampires Suck (yup, a real movie parody for the theaters). It looks really stupid but it could be good XD

message 238: by Heather (new)

Heather | 243 comments Well now, you all forgot the golden rule ... money talks and money walks. Granted, I've read several vampire books, including the Twilight series. I am proud to admit that I have a Twilight shrine, my friend calls it my crack. It is my money and I earned every penny to do what I want with it. All my friends tease me I could care less as I don't care any of the books seriously and there are aspects that call out to me..

message 239: by Heather in FL (new)

Heather in FL (heather_fl) Munky wrote: "On the other hand, I am looking forward to the release of its parody, Vampires Suck (yup, a real movie parody for the theaters). "

I saw the trailer for that... it looks HILARIOUS! Stupid, yes, but that's what parody is, lol. I loved it when the Jacob character turned into a chihuahua.

I liked Twilight, but I know a lot of people didn't. Then again, that was my first foray into the genre, so I didn't have anything to compare it to. Now that I've read more, I would not say Twilight is the best vampire book/series. Not sure who I *would* say... I haven't read Dracula... but while Twilight was a fun, clean read, it doesn't top my list.

I have to wonder if part of the draw isn't the actors? Granted, people had to read Twilight before it was made into a movie, but I wonder if it gained even more fans just by who was cast in the roles. (Personally, I didn't like the casting, but obviously lots do.)

message 240: by Jen ~The dreamer~ (new)

Jen ~The dreamer~ | 649 comments I agree with the casting, I was very disappointed. I really can't stand to watch Kristen Stewart stutter, stammer and constantly flutter her eyes. Not to mention, she's not that great of an actress. I do have to admit, that in Eclipse, she was much better. So I'll give her the benefit of the doubt.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 411 comments I didn't think she had improved, she has the same facial expression for everything! And she walways looks so miserable, I can't remember if Bella was that annoying in the books, or if it is just Kristen Stewart!

message 242: by [deleted user] (new)

I've seen KS in other movies, and I don't remember her being so wooden. I know I saw her in that movie "In the Land of Women", with Meg Ryan, and I don't remember the sever lack of expression other than depressive.

And really, I barely remember Rob Pattinson in Harry Potter, his part was pretty small.

Heather, I totally agree! It's our money and our minds, we can love what we love, no apologies. :)

message 243: by Jaime (new)

Jaime Rush (jaime_rush) | 122 comments Okay, WickedLovely, I'll bite: What's FUBAR? I think I know what FU stands for, LOL. I've never read her books but know of her and am intrigued.

"For PNR's: Anything by Jade Lee. She is freaking psycho & her plots? I could go on for days on how FUBAR they are"

message 244: by [deleted user] (new)

fubar= fucked up beyond all recognition.

At least that's how I always heard it.

message 245: by AH (new)

AH | 123 comments www.Urbandictionary.com is a great place to get a handle on all of those wonderful acronyms out there.

message 246: by Heather (new)

Heather | 243 comments Hey Smut, thanks for the hollar! Feeling the love with no shame..

message 247: by [deleted user] (new)

Have to say that I am a Twilight lover, both books and movies. They were the first PNR books that I read and really got me into the genre. My 16 year old son hates to read and he read the whole series after watching the first movie. So if nothing else, Twilight made readers out of some and made PNR lovers out of others.

P.S. I'm also a Rob Pattinson freak. Loved him in Remember Me and can't wait to see him and Reese Witherspoon in Water for Elephants!

message 248: by [deleted user] (new)

So Remember Me is good? I have it sitting here, but I haven't watched it yet.

message 249: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, I love Rob so my opinion may be biased. Haha! Watch it and let me know what you think. :)

message 250: by Heather (new)

Heather | 243 comments You know, I liked it and granted it isn't Oscar worthing but Rob did a good job.
