Sarah | 13814 comments I was actually hoping he wouldn't. Make McChrystal show he's contrite, but keep him on. Did the general tender a resignation that Obama accepted, or did Obama simply can him?

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments That's a good question. Anyone?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Wow, Obama's playing for keeps now!

I think it was the right decision, you can't have someone at the top who isn't fully committed to the task.
I like how swiftly Obama acted.

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Ok, here's another link...I think that one above went down. Maybe not. Here's another just in case.

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Ok, this does say he resigned, if I'm reading it correctly, but it also says Obama "ousted" him. So I'm slightly confused.

Sarah | 13814 comments It's another bad situation. It's not a great time to put someone new in charge, but either way, McChrystal has lost face and caused Obama to lose face. I thought the most salvagable situation was for Obama to say "you deserve to be fired, but tough luck, you're the best man for this job, so I'm keeping you."

Is he really best for the job? Has significant progress been made under his leadership?

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I think Obama had to boot him, yes, but I'm not sure what good it'll do. Obama comes off looking bad here in any case. I strongly doubt the bulk of the military is saying, "Oh, our commander in chief is so strong" now. My guess is a lot of them are saying this guy told the truth and Obama had to deal with it. But it's not like military types don't talk negatively about civilians opinions on their matters all the time...this person just got caught, my guess, anyway.

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Yes, we're on the same page with that, Buns. I wonder if he's so used to speaking this way with an appreciative audience that he forgot who was listening for a second.

We should have learned from Russia about Afghanistan, they were there for years and couldn't succeed.

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments someone who got to his station in his career should have known better than to talk like that about the boss and administration. he is not just the big cheese in that theatre but an extension of the commander in chief. if i rip my bosses policies and strategies in the media he has the right to sack me. plus, does he read rolling stone? i do. every month. they do no fluff pieces on the pres. he gets ripped every month. like going on the steven colbert show and then being surprised when he makes you look dumb. consider the platform
