M | 11617 comments Jessica, all I can say is, "Wow!" You've been a lot of places. And it sounds as though you've spent quite a bit of time on jets. I'm envious of your exposure to interesting places and languages.

Would I rather have a sore throat or congestion? I'm having a hard time deciding which I like the best! I guess congestion.

England or France?

message 502: by Guy (last edited Sep 03, 2011 04:31PM) (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Jessica, child of a diplomat? I taught a young Korean girl once who before the age of 12 had been to just about as many countries. She seemed a bit sad, actually.

Neither (burger king or macdonald's) Equally inedible for different reasons.
& France - because of the food, mostly.

Latté or Americano?

message 503: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Folger's Breakfast Blend for me. At 4:30 a.m., there's nothing like it.

Edith Piaf or Mireille Mathieu?

message 504: by Guy (last edited Sep 03, 2011 08:01PM) (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Oops. I was slow with Mireille.

Italy - food, again.

Gigi or Irma la Douce?

message 505: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments France for the language, Italy for the food, both for the scenery.

Check out Mireille's "Les yeux de l'amour"! It's very sixties.

I've seen Gigi but not Irma la Douce. It wasn't my kind of movie, though I like Chevalier and Jourdan. I'm not much on musicals.

Rossetti's "Goblin Market" or Irving's "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow"?

message 506: by Guy (last edited Sep 04, 2011 03:54PM) (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments (I didn't really like either Gigi, either — it's okay. The same with ILD.) "Les Yeux... is very nice. Très Français.

Hmmm. That is a tough call. I think 'The Legend' if this was a Sophie's choice.

"To Sir, With Love" or "Conrack"?

message 507: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments "Lillies". I didn't remember "Patch", so looked it up. I vaguely remember seeing it, so it falls to the side because I distinctly remember "Lillies".

"Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?" or "In the Heat of the Night?"

message 508: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Neither - I tried but couldn't watch either.

Electra or Nikita?

message 509: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Electra (as in Mourning Becomes)

A cream-cheese-filled danish or a spicy kolache?

message 510: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Spicy kolache.

Since I've seen some French biases here, a tough one:

French movies: Three Colours Blue or Three Colours Red?

message 511: by M (last edited Sep 05, 2011 09:53AM) (new)

M | 11617 comments I don't know those. I can't even guess. I saw one called Blue, though I don't remember much about it. Back in the nineties I saw one I liked, called Un coeur en hiver, about a beautiful violinist, though I couldn't have followed it without subtitles.

I'm working on a story for this week's contest, but it's going verrrrry slowly.

message 512: by Krishna (new)

Krishna Panikker I have been writing one too but not very successful though. There are many distractions not forgetting work. Not to worry will try to finish it

message 513: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Alohomora - opening doors is such a great metaphor.

Red is better than Blue - and Red is one of my all time favourite most interesting movies. Highly recommended.

Bell, Book and Candle or Practical Magic?

message 514: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Al, that's a Sophie's choice! We kinda need both in proper measure. So, both.

Umbrella or parasol? ;-)

message 515: by Guy (last edited Sep 06, 2011 06:23PM) (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Al, it is obvious you aren't out in the workforce yet, because there is no difference!

Jungian or Freudian?

message 516: by Caitlan (new)

Caitlan (lionesserampant) | 2869 comments pssshhh, I always come on here when the choices are stuff I have no clue about XP

message 517: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Sorry Kat.
And Al, if Jung is boring - which he is NOT, then you are being taught poorly. Actually, I have found Freud to be particularly boring - I mean, stupendously boring, because he is fixated on one aspect of life at the expense of all others.

I'm not much into fixing cars, but stone leaves me cold... hmmm. Marbles because you can turn them into either sculptures or floors.

Clue or Monopoly?

message 518: by Caitlan (new)

Caitlan (lionesserampant) | 2869 comments Lamb :)

Hamburger or Chickenburger?

message 519: by Jessica (last edited Sep 06, 2011 08:31PM) (new)

Jessica (eyrer) M- I'm definitely grateful for all those opportunities. It's been a crazy ride.
Guy- No, more like a child of restless parents. I had originally been under the impression we were travelling as "missionaries," but that didn't prove to be the case. Your observation "She seemed a bit sad, actually" kind of hits home for me. Perhaps it was just the transition of adolescence, but travelling did create some sadder echoes.

Anyway: hamburgers. It's 10:30, and I'm craving ketchup.

Saturdays or Sundays?

message 520: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Sundays - far less busy in my household.

Sunday dinners or brunch?

message 521: by Caitlan (new)

Caitlan (lionesserampant) | 2869 comments Sunday Dinner :) We have pork, mashed potatoes, corn, stove top, gravy and salad every week :) Sometimes cooked squash :) I'm making myself hungry XD

huskies or wolves?

message 522: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Lions - I'm more of a cat person than not.

Jessica, how could one be under the false impression you were part of a troupe of travelling missionaries?! That sounds like a great story.

Baseball or football?

message 523: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Hmmmmm.
I think SB by the smallest of nose hairs.

Halle Barre or Jennifer Garner?

message 524: by M (last edited Sep 07, 2011 11:43AM) (new)

M | 11617 comments Iced tea, unsweetened.

Did you finish your essay, Alex? What kind is it? Process analysis? Narration and description? Comparison and contrast? Cause and effect? If you outline it before you write it, you won't have a problem tying it all up. I never could write an outline first and then write an essay or story from it. It's easy for me to give advice I can't take.

Thoughts or actions?

message 525: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Interesting, M, but I was completely unable to write an outline before writing my essays too. Curious. A symptom of being a particular 'type' in the Jungian sense?

Sigh! Thoughts, but I'd like actions to be equally important. Kind of like the outline thing.

message 526: by Caitlan (new)

Caitlan (lionesserampant) | 2869 comments Glue :0

Comb or brush?

message 527: by Guy (last edited Sep 08, 2011 06:45AM) (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Brush.

On the first day of my being a technician I was introduced to my 4 most important tools: scissors, glue stick, tape and a red pencil. I thought Wow, here I am now doing civil engineering in the age of computers and a glue stick is going to be my best friend?! That was only 10 years ago. I use both far less often now, but not before having graduated to using an x-acto knife instead of scissors.

Good luck with the re-write! (I'm curious what your critique of 'The Queen' concluded.)

Scissors or x-acto knife?

message 528: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments What could be sexier than a great-looking woman with long legs, in heels, particularly if she's a librarian who wears glasses from Eyemasters? So I guess I'll say pumps, though I usually think of librarians as the type to wear flats.

I don't what I would do without an X-acto knife. I buy the blades in spring-loaded dispensers.

A mocha or a caramel macchiato?

message 529: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments M, because of the chocolate I'll go with mocha, but both are too sweet for me.

Carrot cake or banana loaf?

message 530: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Carrot cake.

Monet or Renoir?

message 531: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Renoir.

Salvador Dali or Leonardo DaVinci?

message 532: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Nice choice!

Short sleeve.

Flip flops or sandals?

message 533: by Caitlan (new)

Caitlan (lionesserampant) | 2869 comments Flip Flops :)

Sweats or Jeans?

message 534: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Jeans (though I don't own a pair).

Reflective sunglasses or regular ones?

message 535: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (eyrer) Regular ones.

Film or digital photography?

message 536: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (eyrer) Roast anything sounds really good right about now. I guess I'll have to choose roast pork.

Target or Wal-Mart?

message 537: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Yikes! That's my choice? Neither. Havel you seen the Wal-martians song? My co-worker sent it to me today, so tooooo funny my getting this 'which one'.

Okay....

Chicken wings or chicken nuggets?

message 538: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (eyrer) Gah! It won't let me watch it...I'm too young.

Procrastinating. I NEED to start being serious about college apps. Sigh.

Cheesecake or pie?

message 539: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Chess.
The video is only adult rated in the US because it shows some butt cracks - and some oddly dressed people.

Poker or solitaire?

message 540: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Poker, but only if there's betting.

Frederic Remington or Charles Russell?

message 541: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments You're right. There's a lot of color in Russell's paintings!

I like movies that have a lot of atmosphere, so for me it's not a clear choice between westerns and Hitchcock. I liked Spellbound, but I thought The Big Country was good. I had a thing for Jean Simmons. Maybe that was it.

Action-and-adventure or movies that explore the characters minds?

message 542: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments It depends on the quality of the movie. So, Rear Window is a favourite, but I enjoyed the old Three Musketeers with Oliver Reed.

But the adventure movies almost never rise into favourites, so mind movies.

Alfred Hitchcock or Cohen Bothers?

message 543: by Hanzleberry (new)

Hanzleberry (doughboyissweet) | 1065 comments Hitchcock!

Oh, wow, M... your librarian comment. I hope I don't turn out to be one of THOSE librarians. ;)

red-headed architects or baby chicken-skinny newspaper men? LOL

message 544: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments There's a difference?

Spiders or snakes?

message 545: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Al, you like Ellsworth Toohey better than Gary Cooper?

Hmm. Spiders.

Han, what's one of those librarians? Librarians, especially the super-intelligent ones with long, straight hair, have a mysterious attraction.

Dewey Decimal System or Library of Congress?

message 546: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments DDS.

The Grinch or Scrooge?

message 547: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (eyrer) The Grinch! I think I'm a bit like him, actually. Schadenfruede and all that. Horrible, I know.

Physical pain or emotional pain?

message 548: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Jessica, you must be the most sophisticated young person I've ever come across.

Emotional pain. I almost said I'd take physical pain over emotional pain any day, but I know someone who, after a failed surgery, has been in excruciating physical pain for years. When I suffer emotional pain, it's usually because I've lost someone I love, but I realize that I'm suffering because someone earned it.

Walnut or mahogany?

message 549: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Alex, you're too beautiful to be a librarian. You should be modeling for major advertising firms and making a lot of money. That photo of you is spectacular. By the way, I liked film better, too.

Screwdrivers. When it comes to piers, nails just don't keep the boards in place.

Pens or pencils?

message 550: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Pens, as long as they are wide nibbed for calligraphic purposes.

Oils or water colours?
