M | 11617 comments Mickey Rooney. Did you know that the original Star Trek series was filmed at the old studios Lucille Ball owned? By then, Fred was too old to be cast as Captain Kirk.

M | 11617 comments You should be a doctor, you get by on so little sleep. You could be one that isn't evil.

message 453: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments I forgot about Tux. Sorry, Alex!

message 454: by Hanzleberry (new)

Hanzleberry (doughboyissweet) | 1065 comments Al...........................

message 455: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Al, sorry about Tux.

message 456: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments And speaking of Kirk:

Patrick Stewart or Wiliam Shatner?

message 457: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Is that a real question? Don't they taste the same? Uhm. Green. I come from Irish people, so green must be a color I like.

Whoppers or Atomic Fireballs?

message 458: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Reading. Did you even have to ask?

Reading or writing?

message 459: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Reading, except when I'm writing. Writing, except when I'm reading.

Courier or Arial?

message 460: by Caitlan (new)

Caitlan (lionesserampant) | 2869 comments Arial? I guess, I don't really care

Times New Roman or Arial?

message 461: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (eyrer) D:

^My face ever since school started this week. I should stop pushing off college apps, start revising for my current classes, and write more poetry!

College applications or job interviews?

message 462: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (eyrer) Long hair. I wish I could pull off short hair...

Bagels or toast?

message 463: by Caitlan (new)

Caitlan (lionesserampant) | 2869 comments blue, I've never liked the girly colors

Contacts or glasses?

message 464: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Blue, but that makes me think of the French 3 colours movies so...

Three Colours Blue or Three Colours Red. (Yikes! That's a tough one.)

or

The cookie monster or the grouch?

message 465: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Depends. I'll take geometry (math) over biochemistry (science), but I'll take geology (science) over calculus.

If you could go back in time for a few minutes, who would you rather have a conversation with: Humphrey Bogart or Marilyn Monroe?

message 466: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments MM - I'd ask her about JFK.

Jules Verne or Samuel Clemens?

message 467: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments I've never liked astrology, ever since I got a fortune-cookie message that said I had no ambition. Unfortunately, it was true.

Pisces or Aquarius?

message 468: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Aquarius - I am one; Pisces, I married one.

Crab.

Scallops or prawns?

message 469: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Neither. I agree with Wordsworth:

Getting and sending mail, we lay waste our powers;
Little of what we send is really ours
But forwarded from somewhere else--a sordid boon!

Read for escape or read for an insight into human nature?

message 470: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Aren't they both the same thing, really, in the end?

Okay, human nature, even if, or perhaps especially via great fiction.

Little Red Riding Hood or Alice in Wonderland?

message 471: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments The Once and Forgotten King!

Guy, I buy Laurence Perrine’s argument that fiction written merely to offer escape tends to have flat characters and stereotypical plots, whereas serious (what he calls “interpretive”) fiction, written to explore the human condition, may offer escape but isn’t written primarily for that purpose.

Pink Elephant’s “Venus” or Mason Williams’ “Classical Gas”?

message 472: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Oddly enough, Beowulf. The Once and Future King was boring to me.

Sherlock Holmes or Robin Hood?

message 473: by M (last edited Aug 30, 2011 02:22PM) (new)

M | 11617 comments I rarely have any idea what I'm talking about. If I talked only about things I know, I'd have to sit down and be quiet.

I love seagulls and sandpipers. Can I pick both?

Tony Bennett's "The Shadow of Your Smile" or the version Vic Damone did?

message 474: by Guy (last edited Aug 30, 2011 02:24PM) (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments M wrote: "The Once and Forgotten King!

M I agree with Perrine. Who is it that said most non-fiction is false and the best fiction true (to the human condition)?

message 475: by Caitlan (new)

Caitlan (lionesserampant) | 2869 comments M, never heard either....

The word hot or the word cold?

message 476: by Caitlan (new)

Caitlan (lionesserampant) | 2869 comments I've never seen Monty Python.....

message 477: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (eyrer) (I've never watched Monty Python either...)

Staples! If only to use as an excuse to fiddle with the staple-removing device.

Headphones or earphones?

message 478: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Earphones. Kat, Jessica, watch 'Life of Brian'.

George Cluny or Brad Pitt?

message 479: by M (last edited Sep 02, 2011 06:46AM) (new)

M | 11617 comments Alex, you must have the most gorgeous profile photo on Goodreads! Everything about it is just stunning. When a page comes up, if that image is on it, my attention goes right to it. I'll bet it winds up in the most popular photos.

Where was I? Stories. Stories, of course. Does anybody like to write essays?

I Love Lucy or The Twilight Zone?

message 480: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Donald Duck.

Wait a minute. Maybe I'm thinking of Daffy Duck. Who was Duck Dodgers in the 24th 1/2 century? I think that was Merrie Melodies.

Horror or psychological drama?

message 481: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments I guess bagpipes. Their sound makes me think more of Celtic music and Renaissance festivals.

Flute or piano?

message 482: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments I've never had a smoothie, so I'll go with milkshakes (though I could probably do with fewer of them.)

Which word: enchanting or eerie?

message 483: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Independent. Clingy characters make me want to run (or put a book down and read something else).

Beautiful and intelligent or beautiful and mysterious.

message 484: by Jessica (last edited Sep 02, 2011 08:19AM) (new)

Jessica (eyrer) Enchanting.

Dark or milk chocolate?

...I was a bit slow on this one. Sorry.

message 485: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Celtic - Loreena McKennett rocks, especially when reading Shakespeare.

And I love writing essays too, Al!

Macy Gray or Shakira?

message 486: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Neither?! A tertium quid, no less. You didn't enjoy "Relating to a Psychopath?' Very fun. And the one she uses a gun to convince her man to love her was also funny.

Hmmm. I was tempted to say 'Neither', too, but that's too strong, so my tertium quid is ambivalent.

This might be a tough one, but when I thought of Harrison Ford for some reason the dumb movie he did with Anne Heche popped into my head, which made me think of Heche in Ally McBeal. So...

Ally McBeal or Picket Fences?

message 487: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments The writing in both is about as good as American TV writing has ever been. One of the episodes of Picket Fences has a top 10 best ever written television episode ever. As for McBeal, again, the writing was brilliant. As a writer of dialog you may find that watching the writing efforts of David E. Kelley to be worth while.

Okay, since I don't know Batmanuel, I'll pick Batman, but only the old comic book series sans Robin.

Betty or Veronica?

message 488: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Al, what an amazing leap! Following the comic reference, I was of course referring to B&V of Archie fame. But your choice is MUCH better.

Okay, not a fan of either. But I watched more of Elvis when I was a kid, and had enough fun then, so, Elvis.

Myrna Loy or Katherine Hepburn?

message 489: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments 2D - I haven't seen a 3D that actually worked. But I haven't seen any of the recent movies...

A Christmas Carol or It's A Wonderful Life?

message 490: by Hanzleberry (new)

Hanzleberry (doughboyissweet) | 1065 comments James Dean! He just makes me think of Christopher Snow, a Dean Koontz character! Like, my all-time favorite one! :D

message 491: by Hanzleberry (new)

Hanzleberry (doughboyissweet) | 1065 comments Oh. Sorry. Stonehenge.

caterpillar or butterfly? Lol...

message 492: by M (last edited Sep 03, 2011 11:27AM) (new)

M | 11617 comments Orange.

Bellatrix Lestrange or . . . well, nobody's like that.

Uhm, African Queen or Breakfast at Tiffany's?

message 493: by M (last edited Sep 03, 2011 02:06PM) (new)

M | 11617 comments Breakfast at Tiffany's is one of my favorite movies! It's based on one of the most beautifully-written stories I've ever read.

In general, I'd rather stay put than travel, but I like going on an adventure now and then.

A beach house or a mountain cabin?

message 494: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (eyrer) I used to travel a lot--now that I'm "staying put" I've realized that I miss it. I even miss the usually dreadful international flights and runny airplane meals. Well, perhaps not that.

Tap or bottled water?

message 495: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (eyrer) (...and, yet again, I was too slow to post. Poo.)

message 496: by Hanzleberry (new)

Hanzleberry (doughboyissweet) | 1065 comments Double. Mmm...

pringles or pretzels?

Hi, Al! :D

message 497: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Our tap water comes from deep wells, so it tastes fine, but I like Perrier water.

Jessica, what countries have you been to? I've never been out of the U.S.

message 498: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Sorry, Hannah. My service is so slow I answered #706 and got posted after #708.

Pringles.

Barbecue or regular?

message 499: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Al, you've never seen a mountain? I'm surrounded by them. I remember a visitor from the plains who couldn't get comfortable when he visited us: he felt hemmed in and claustrophobic. He felt that the mountains were looming over him.

Both, but only when my wife makes them.

Baclava or creme caramel?

message 500: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (eyrer) M- I've been to Indonesia, Singapore, Korea, England, France, Thailand, and China. I'm pretty sure layovers in Germany and Japan don't really count as "visits" but at least I've set foot, technically. Hawaii's not a different country, obviously, but I LOVED it there. Listing out these destinations makes me really want to hop on a plane again...I still haven't visited anywhere in S. America, Africa, or Australia! Someday, someday...

Anyway...an egg sandwich sounds really good right about now.

Soreness of throat or congestion?
