Hello rachel, thanks for the welcome, hope you're feeling much better.

Which theatrical adaptation you like most of pride and prejudice? I really like the BBC one :)

message 203: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) Brenda, Have not read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies nor Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters? Any good?

message 204: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Hrisafinis (kelmo124) | 3 comments Pride and prejudice. I could reread it over and over!

message 205: by [deleted user] (new)

Kelly... did you see the movie Lost In Austen? She reads the book over and over.

Thank you, Ivonne. I am starting to feel better. I adore the '95 BBC adaptation of P & P the most too. :)

I have read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies actually. At first, I didn't want anyone messing with my fave novel like that, but I heard it was fun so I gave in and read it. It will never take the place of the original classic, but for what it is, it is quite entertaining. I hope the film version gets done, actually, because it could really work in that format. I can't wait to see Lost in Austen sometime.

message 207: by [deleted user] (new)

I liked Lost In Austen but a warning..... It messes a lot with the book.... but it has some funny parts and at least you can go back to the book or the bbc adaptation and be comforted. LOL

message 208: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) I didn't really care for Lost in Austen either. It goes far afield of the book. It does have some nice moments in it.

message 209: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes ..... It starts out great ... I was LOL watching the movie. I am always looking for Austen's anything. I watched Becoming Jane. I still don't know if I liked it or not.

message 210: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) Becoming Jane, Didn't watch all of it to make my opinion known. Lost me at the fight scene boxing, I suppose.

message 211: by [deleted user] (new)

I watched with my daughter and I knew her story but my daughter didn't ...... she, my daughter was very upset .... she likes HEA too

Yes and I loved it!

message 213: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) That movie was a good take on the Austen book, it was a very romantic piece and with her time travelling to the actual household and meeting the people in person. When she sees Lizzie with short hair she about freaks out. I liked how she got Lizzie and Mr. Darcy together in the end.

message 214: by Dorothy (new)

Dorothy My very favorite is Pride & Prejudice for sure!

message 215: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) That seems to be the consensus of a great Austen book. The movie is superb too.

message 216: by Dorothy (new)

Dorothy Wasn't it though...my favorite version is with Keira Knightley as Elizabeth.

message 217: by [deleted user] (new)

I think a persons favorite movie version depends on the one they saw first. My favorite is with Colin Firth. ahhhhhhhhhh

message 218: by Kristen (new)

Kristen (kristenelise) | 10 comments I'm sure I'm with the majority here... my favorite book is Pride and Prejudice. I was inherently biased from the beginning; when I was a girl, my mother told me I reminded her of Elizabeth Bennet (she was referring to Elizabeth Garvie's portrayal). My favorite version, though, is the 1995 BBC/A&E one. :-)

message 219: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Ramirez (bvramirez) yes robin i think pride n prejudice n zombies is good its a mix with the original story with a twist. I thought it was funny.

message 220: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) Faithmarie, my thoughts exactly, Colin Firth!

message 221: by Rap (new)

Rap | 1 comments PRIDE AND PREJUDICE WILL ALWAYS BE MY FAVORITE!
MR.DARCY MAKES ME FALL IN LOVE. :-)

Anuja | 8 comments Faithmarie wrote: "I totally agree with you Anuja!" thanks.its easy to be confused by her books, all of them are so good.

message 223: by Kirst (new)

Kirst (incaseofvertigo) I love all her novels, but the ones that really stand out for me are Persuasion (Anne Elliot's pain is almost unbearable to read and I mean that in a good way!) and Northanger Abbey (I have been accused of being a lot like Catherine on more than one occasion).

message 224: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) I read both of those books, and I did like Northanger Abbey, it was certainly a different "take" on Austen's usual writing, more suspenseful.

message 225: by Kirst (new)

Kirst (incaseofvertigo) It definitely is and incredibly witty too! What is your fave Jane Austen novel?

Robin wrote: "I read both of those books, and I did like Northanger Abbey, it was certainly a different "take" on Austen's usual writing, more suspenseful."

message 226: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) The ones I have read, I can't choose just one, but it is a toss up between Persuasion and the letter, and Northanger Abbey.

message 227: by Kirst (new)

Kirst (incaseofvertigo) I like the letters too! And I'm glad to see some love for Northanger Abbey! I feel it's usually overlooked!

message 228: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) Since Northanger Abbey is not the usual Austen book, it does get overlooked. It seemed very suspenseful to me, almost like reading a a mystery at times.

message 229: by Kirst (new)

Kirst (incaseofvertigo) I used to be quite the gothic novel reader when I was in my teens, so I love the way she spoofed them in the novel :)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) I know I wasn't expecting that from Jane.

I have to confess, that while I love Pride and Prejudice, its actually my fourth favorite.(: Emma shall always remain number one.

No. Joke. That has to be THE adaptation, at least of the three or four I've seen. Amanda Root and Ciaran Hinds are just so perfect. And The Letter scene... Nice.

OH the letter, how much I LOVE THAT LETTER!!!! Yes this is the "ONLY" real adaptation as far as I'm concerned, only if someone could get Mansfield Park right...

Yeah, that's a tough one, alright. I thought they were closer to the mark with the most recent one, but no one has quite gotten there, yet (it is a hopeful yet).

message 237: by Karlyne (new)

Karlyne Landrum Oh, Magdalena and Manda, you are so right; if only someone could get a Mansfield Park done right! I swear, I'm going to write the screenplay one of these days. In my spare time. When I'm out of other things to do. On the weekends. I should just shut up and do it, huh?

message 238: by Karlyne (new)

Karlyne Landrum Oh, and the Amanda Root/Ciaran Hinds Persuasion is just about perfectly done, isn't it? Makes me cry every time-- when I'm not laughing, of course.

I agree completely!!!!!!!! I have heard others say the characters are not very attractive but I find them charming and perfect for the movie and the acting is brilliant. I also cried...... I don't usually crying movies but this was worth it.

Manda (pemberliegh) | 96 comments Faithmarie wrote: "I have heard others say the characters are not very attractive but I find them charming and perfect for the movie and the acting is brilliant."

WHAAA-?? Have they read the book? I think Anne's transformation from plain, peaky old maid to lovely is pretty good. At the start, she basically thinks her life is all it is going to be, right? I mean, she's still the same woman, but by the end she looks healthier, younger, in love and hopeful. It's awesome! So perfect. Those Others can just.... shut up, that's what they can do... so there.

:D

message 241: by Karlyne (new)

Karlyne Landrum Those Others, I am Persuaded, have no Sense nor any Sensibility. I think they must suffer from both Pride and Prejudice. So, they can put that in their pipes and smoke it. Nyah, nyah, nyah!
(we're funny, aren't we?)

Jean (jeanbr) | 7 comments Can anyone really compare with Mr Darcy as a hero?!

Have you tried "Dialogue with Darcy" - quite a believable sequel to Pride & Prejudice - see www.janetaylmer.com

message 244: by [deleted user] (new)

Nope, Jean. Nobody. ;-)

message 245: by Karlyne (new)

Karlyne Landrum Oh, I just don't know. I mean, Captain Wentworth and the letter?

message 246: by Carmin (new)

Carmin | 2 comments Persuasion hands down

message 247: by Manda (new)

Manda (pemberliegh) | 96 comments Wait. No one told me we had to choose between heroes. Not cool, guys. That's like asking me to choose my favorite dessert; sure there are some literary heroes I just don't care for, but otherwise it totally depends on what I have a taste for at the moment and all of Austen's heroes are yummy for one reason or another.

message 248: by LeOta (new)

LeOta (berrylota) | 26 comments Hello there. My favorite book is Persuasion. The Elliot sisters crack me up. My favorite Austen hero is Mr. Knightly. If he loved Emma less than maybe he could talk about it more. Sigh!!! I was not very fond of Captain Wentworth, but then he wrote that letter and that was that. My favorite heroine, well it is a tie between Anne Elliot and Elinor Dashwood. Both ladies kept their cool and it worked out in the end. I first read P&P in high school and enjoyed it. Years later, my Mom and I watched A&E's P&P and we were addicts from then on. We have ordered just about any movie adaptation we could find. I have read and re-read the books over and over. Three years ago I joined the Jane Austen Society, Puget Sound Branch so every other month I together with others that enjoy Jane Austen's work and we have a great time.

I love Mr. Knightley too and have you read Mr. Knightley's Diary by Amanda Grange? Very good retelling of Emma from his perspective and she keeps true to Austen as well.

Carmin | 2 comments I love Captain Wentworth. He never stopped loving Anne. :'(
