Hello! What's your favorite Austen book?
Persuasion without a doubt. Pride and Prejudice used to be my favorite, but that was before I'd read Persuasion. That book is amazing. It's so romantic how Wentworth and Anne can't forget each other even after all those years. They're still in love. I love it!
Yes, I think I have to re-think my favorite book it is probably Persuasion also, have not read the others though, may have to change my mind once I do get to read the others.
I think, persuasion, pride and prejudice, and now am reading Northanger Abbey which is pretty good.

Hey Logan, enjoy Gone with the Wind. I haven't read it in a while and it is a very distinctive book. Whether you enjoy it or not depends on what you typically like to read. It is a good book to try once just because it was SO a part of American popular culture during that time period. And of course then you must watch the movie :)
I am a Southern girl myself, but I don't necessarily like Southern stories now, it depends on how they are written. To balance your reading experience after GWTW, you might want to try Robert Hicks' The Widow of the South and Howard Bahr's The Year of Jubilo. Those are both lovely books.
Oh, I also love The River Between Us by Richard Peck, it is probably right at your school library.
I read Gone with the Wind eons ago, I love the video, the books can be very descriptive which is usually the case. Can;t beat the image of technicolor and vivid colors on Vivien Leigh, though. LOL
Hi :) My name is Valerie & I'm new to the site & this group. I LOVE Jane Austen stories... I think I have to say that they are my favorites! Very hard to say which of her stories are my most favorite... but after thinking on this I'd have to say Pride & Prejudice and Persuasion top my list.

I tried reading it on Jane Austen North American website, I think I need to personally get my hands on a copy. It is hard and slow going for me reading it on the computer. I wanted to see the Gwyneth Paltrow video but somehow I don't know but I would rather see a British actress doing the Emma role.

The Emma done in 2009 for BBC (and shown here on PBS) was pretty good. I enjoyed both versions - but then I am a sucker for a good bonnet drama!

Sometimes I like the movie version, since I am a visual person, that I forget there is an actual book. In either case, I will just probably go with the movie for now, I'll try to get this version that you are talking about. Thanks, Megan
It's for sure Emma! It was the first book I've read by Jane Austen..such great memories. :)

My all time favorite is Persuasion, however Emma is very entertaining. I just finished Jane Fairfax by Joan Aiken and it was very good. For anyone who likes Emma, this is definitely a treat read.

I agree, "Emma" is definitely my no. 1 right now. I think that Emma as a character is a true masterpiece -she is irritating, proud and foolish but still I like her, I like her imperfections. Almost all Austen heroines make us adore them. Emma is different and that's what makes her so special. ;)

GUESS WHAT? What? I went down to the Jane Austen Society AGM convention at the Hilton. I only visited, which means I went into Milson Street. What a treat. Found the Jane and Cassandra book I wanted and got a jane picture button. Also visited the Regency Book Exhibit at the library. THEY HAD FIRST EDITIONS OF PERSUASION (IN WITH NORTHANGER ABBEY) AND EMMA. Absolutely lovely, small little books, so adorable. They came in 4 Volumes, you know. Anyway, nice exhibit, I thought it was all JA, but it was Regency authors. They had some Radcliffes too.

I am 13, and I have only read Pride and Prejudice...I have lately been trying to get the movies and watch them before I read the books, so that I can get a feel for them...I have seen Emma, and I was trying to watch Mansfield Park, but it must have had a scratch... It crashed on me... Anyway, I love the movies and book of Pride and Prejudice...

Welcome, Eitak. Pride and Prejudice is my favorite Austen, but all her novels are enjoyable in so many ways. I hope you get to read the rest soon! As for the films, the 1995 versions of Sense and Sensibility and Persuasion are two of the best ever. Enjoy!

That's so cool! I didn't think any teenagers actually read Jane Austen (unless for school)...
My favourite Jane Austen has to be without a doubt, Persuasion. It is beautifully written, and Anne and Captain Wentworth are probably two of her more complex characters. Pride & Prejudice comes a close second.
I agree, but I also liked Northanger Abbey, it had different elements to it, unlike her other novels.

Right now my favorite is Pride and Prejudice, but I haven't read very many of Austen's book. :) I am listening to Emma right now and am really enjoying it!
Pride and Prejudice is good, I like Northanger Abbey as well.
It has been pride and prejudice for so long but this past year I am also really loving Emma. The truth is that I really love all of Jane Austen's books with the exception of Mansfield Park. I find Mansfield Park so long and boring with such painful characters.
I have a copy of Sense and Sensibility, and Pride and Prejudice, Never read Mansfield, or Emma, I should expand my horizons and read more Jane Austen.
Robin, Emma is hilarious. I love, love, love it. Northanger Abby is also really good. I think Jane Austen was a genius and I love her books.

My favorite is EMMA!I think it is the highlight of Austen books , it desribes a witty girl and with her continuous trials to understand the world around her but sometimes she dont ;)
