They both look interesting--and I'm ok if they're more D/s & power exchange than BDSM. Going to add them to my TBR list!

So ... despite just having started the Petit Morts series, I couldn't wait and got Special Delivery (Special Delivery, #1) by Heidi Cullinan .

I loved it. I too have a humiliation squick (humiliation/unfairness is a really fine line ... I find David Copperfield hard to watch - let alone read), but this didn't even come close to that for me. Sam went into every situation out of his own free will, often second guessed by Mitch and encouraged to tell him if he didn't want to do what was asked of him. The one time Sam is really pushed to do something outside his comfort zone in that department, he safeworded and set his limits.
Also, Mitch makes a great observation on the subject after that scene, but I don't want to spoil by quoting it.

I have to agree with Emanuela, it is definitely a romance to me, mixed with an unconventional relationship, D/s and kink. Though ... considering the ending ... the unconventional part of it is only a small part, and I had no problem with the open nature of the relationship, Randy and/or his relationship with Mitch. They were men with a past to put behind them and I thought Heidi handled that perfectly.

Back to Petit Morts now ...

I used to find them at a used bookstore near where I used to live. I don't have all of them, but at some point I'm going to try to find them online. Maybe through Amazon.

I didn't realize they were based on actual episodes. Since I haven't seen all of them, and only own the first season on DVD... guess I'll move those DVDs to the top of my 'must buy sooner rather than later' list! Good to know!

Just makes me want to see the actual ep now! Phew! What a book!

lol, so I gave in, and ordered a few more romance novels. I'm trying to write/edit one and it's rather difficult when I'm reading YA fiction with no m/m in it. So, I broke down and ordered some good stuff that's been recommended here (L.A. Heat, Regularly Scheduled Life, Touch me Gently, and some Andrew Grey stuff) I can't wait to chow down on those!

In the mean time, I started reading Death of a Pirate King the other day, and gosh, Jake is such a jerk. lol. It's been awhile since I read the one before it, and I'm almost thinking I should have skimmed it to recall what happened before I started in on this one. But, oh well. I'm still enjoying it. Having trouble putting it down in fact!

message 1269: by Heather C (new)

Heather C (heathercook) I finished The Diamond Ring Effect by Mark Alders River Marked (Mercedes Thompson, #6) by Patricia Briggs and With Love (With or Without Series, #1) by J.L. Langley .

Now reading Without Reservations (With or Without Series, #2) by J.L. Langley and Beastly by Alex Flinn

River Marked was awesome! Read it ASAP if you love Mercy Thompson!

It's about the beginning of a relationship between a hearing impaired and a hearing person through to their hea. I'm terrible at describing the qualities of a book but it is wonderful. You won't be sorry plus all of the proceeds go to help the deaf. You can buy it on the author's website which is linked from his GR page.

message 1271: by David (new)

David Sullivan (evadnavillus) I think I should split my proceeds between my deaf organization and Lori, or at least hire her as my agent! :)

Unfortunately, I have no other novels to offer you, but as Dane mentioned, the great feedback on this site has helped me take my pen back in hand. So I'm excited about writing a sequel to The Sound of Your Voice!

I'm also looking into converting the pdf from my original publisher (Torquere Press) to other electronic formats. Anyone who buys the pdf now will get links to these other formats once I figure out the software to convert it, so stay tuned.

But back to the topic at hand, I need to find out more about Josh Lanyon!

Holy fricking God. This Rough Magic is heading off to lines and I actually...maybe...for the first time in three years have a chance to catch my breath and work at a normal pace.

I'm afraid to believe it. I mean, it's still going to be a busy schedule but no more of this write-a-novel-in-two-weeks stuff.

I like variety too :)
Though, I still hesitate at reading shapeshifter and vampire stories. I don't know why. I loved Buffy/Angel, but reading vampire stories somehow just doesn't do it for me.
And shapeshifters ... I have no idea what it is that makes me skip them (at first), I just do.

But I love paranormal, mystery, fantasy, Sience Fiction, historical romance ... yeah ... just about anything, really

Of course, variety is the spice of life, right? ;)

I enjoyed it! I love that it begins with an established relationship, and the two guys (Zach and Austin) have great chemistry and realistic problems to overcome. You have to be willing to forgive them for poor choices on their road-trip-from-hell, and maybe even suspend disbelief at one point, but I managed.

I gave it four stars--although a book that gives me both an established relationship and a Jewish holiday is petty much going to be a win for me!

Some of us have very similar tastes. I paticularly love your M/M work Josh, but I tend to go for paranormal (vampire & shapeshifter) in the het books I read. River Marked & Pale Demon are both on my to-read lists and I am working my way through the Black Dagger Brotherhood series again in preparation for the new book in the series.

message 1280: by Heather C (new)

Heather C (heathercook) I much prefer paranormal books. I can't remember the last het book I read that wasn't paranormal. Bet I've been reading a lot of contemporary type m/m and I think that's only because I'm new to the genre and don't know what paranormal books are out there worth reading.

Anita, what is it that turns you off from shifter and vampires? I'm currently reading the With or Without series by JL Langey. So far it hasn't too "far out there" if that's your concern. Its about werewolves and the men recognize their mates immediately. So its be interesting.

Lora, Mercedes Thompson is my favorite shifter series and I LOVED River Marked. Mercedes is made of awesome and there VERY little sex in the series. Oh, and there is even an m/m couple in there!!

lol, I finally got to the part in The Death of a Pirate King where Adrien gets new books he has to check out, and I was happy to know I recognized the authors! Out of the four, I've read (and throughly enjoyed) Scott Sherman's First You Fall (Tell Adrien to dive right in and he'll love it, won't you?). And I just ordered P.A. Brown's L.A. Heat. Now, I've got the other two (Neil Plakcy and Anthony Bidulka) to check out! If Adrien's reading them... they're a must read! lol. And those covers look HOT!!!

I don't know ...
I've read some (including at least one by JL Langley), and they weren't bad ... though I'm not to fond of insta-love, and that includes recognising a mate the minute they meet.
For some reason they just don't fulfil my needs ... there is no other way to describe it, because I don't really know what it is I don't like about them. (I loved Severus Snape/Remus Lupin fanfic)

message 1283: by Heather C (new)

Heather C (heathercook) I'm not fond of "insta-love" either but I can accept it in PNR. I guess because the rules have changed. IDK. With reading I prefer to escape from the "real" world. And I love the "worlds" that some of these authors have built and how they are unlike anything else.

Yeah, I am very familiar with Patty Briggs' work. I've read all of the Mercy books (with the exception of River Marked) and the Alpha & Omega series. If you enjoy those, try out Kim Harrison's Hallows series. They have witches, fae, vampires, shifters, pixies and elves. The first book is Dead Witch Walking and all the titles are twists on Clint Eastwood movie titles.
For some reason I don't like the paranormal as much in my M/M reads. There are a few exceptions, such as JCP's PsyCop series and Ally Blue's Bay City Paranormal, but I just have less interest in shifters and vampires in these books. I do have plans to read Duck! though, because everybody raves about it.

The other thing (besides the critique group) that we'd talked about was doing a group read. (I mean of something I didn't write.)

I greatly enjoyed Duck! thought it has its flaws. I'm hoping the continuation in the universe she's created will correct some of the outstanding issues raised in Duck! Overall, I like Kim's stories for while they're heavy in the BSDM theme, they're never heavy scenes and she puts a realistic spin on the lifestyle (if a softer romantic one). Also, she writes a lot of short bite stories, which are great for bedtime reads when you need to decompress.
