I've heard grown women say they'd like to steal their son's matchbox cars to drive one over his lower back.
I have had a not so interesting reading week as well. Work is very exhausting rigth now, so my head is tired, that is why I have trouble concentrating I believe, so I have actually not finished several books, which doesn't happen often. So I went and got myself some yarn and knitting needles and is currently working on a pair of mittens in a traditional Norwegian pattern. Every row is different so there is lot of counting involved and I keep making mistakes. It is a long time since last time I knitted. But it is fun. And the inspiration I got from Amy Lane's knitting series and you guys here, when someone here (Becky?) posted the link to Revelry. So it gets back to books after all :)Now I am halfway into Men of Smithfield: Adam and Holden which is good and that I definitely will finish.

It makes it hard to read. I have compensated by reading some graphic novels and manga. I find it helps to look at pictures and read fewer words when your head hurts.

Are they too complicated for you to be able to listen to an audiobook while you knit? That's what I do!! Looking forward to listening to Josh's books while I power through my (much more simple than yours) knitting...

I am thinking of trying an audiobook, I am actually a virgin in that regard, so have first to find out how to do it. Can I listen on my I-pad? I have read all Josh's books, but wouldn't mind listening to one instead of re-reading, which I am bound to do anyway :)

Of course you'd need to buy your audiobooks through Audible (an Amazon off-shoot, I think). I do that, but I supplement my audiobooks habit by buying cheaper used ones on CDs (even on cassettes) as I have players I can use at home and in the car. I get them through Amazon and on eBay. The ones on cassette are very good value, to the extent that it was worth buying a used cassette player for them.
But beware - check and double-check that the versions are not abridged (especially for CDs).

Thanks. A cassette-playet now, those I haven't seen in a long time :). Things change, don't they? And that's the fun of living of course.
I've just finished Fun Home. It's a graphic novel telling the story of the author's family, especially of her relationship with her father (view spoiler) and her coming out as lesbian. It’s a fast read, but there are lots references to literature.
The very apt full title is ''Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic''. There are some tragic moments as well, but it is overall more funny.
Alison Bechdel published this year Are You My Mother?, which I also bought but I haven't read yet.
She became famous for the comic strip ''Dykes to Watch Out For'', which ran from 1983 to 2008. See her homepage: http://dykestowatchoutfor.com

Gosh, you just made me wish I'd brought my knitting to work with me. I'm exhausted, but the idea of mindlessly knitting a long scarf sounds awesome. It's going to be a slow day since it's a Saturday and it's snowing outside. Yay.

Wow that one post of mine just doesn't want to cooperate with me at all.
Here's what I'd been trying to say:
Having to go through my unread print books yesterday, I only found two with naked torsos. Surprising that only two of them (and I have two large stacks of unread MM print books) had naked torsos.
However, if I really want to perplex the family, the cover of Slave Boy by Evaneline Anderson is one of my favorites, and it's one of my favorite MM books too. It sounds dark, and it is, but it's also very sweet and romantic when you get right down to it. I should reread that one over xmas. hehehe. ;-P

The model I notice elsewhere is the one posed as Killian on the
cover. I can't think of which covers right now.

I barely pay attention to covers anymore, since I read ebooks on a black and white reader. Sometimes I have to go look at the cover to remind me which book it is though. You know what I wish all ebook publishers would do? I wish they would put a back-cover style blurb in front of chapter one on every e-book. So when I'm looking through my 300+ m/m titles on my Kindle, I can remind myself what the book was about.
It's age and memory loss... :) I can't remember the books in my TBR list.

Noticed a few publishers doing it but especially with ereaders where you often don't see/look at the cover it's nigh impossible to keep books clear in your head.
Between the youngest child's school project (really, the kind of project that would be a challenge for a 6th grader; I think it's wholly inappropriate for 2nd grade, and adding his ADD on top of that is just...overwhelming!) and trying to read to the boys every night -- we're currently reading The Borrowers -- and preparing for DH's deployment to be OVER (soon soon soon!) I have been too swamped to do much reading for myself. But I'm trying to re-read Sorcery and Cecelia, or The Enchanted Chocolate Pot because it's the December pick for the Smart Bitches Trashy Books book club, and I've loved it forever, and my daughter is reading it, too, and I want to see what, if any, thoughts SHE has about it...I need a corner to hide in until New Year's, I think.

Very, very nice indeed! Differently beautiful — it'll positively stand out among all the typical m/m covers! I really like the liaison (right word?) between the black and white and the sepia. The cover is Lou's work, is it?
@ Josh: And I like the new deadline winter 2013. :)

Candice wrote: "I get these samples and by the time I apply myself to read some, I have no idea what it's about, why it appealed..."I figure that saves me a bunch of money. If I've just downloaded the sample, instead of buying the book, and it takes me so long to get to the sample that I don't remember what attracted me in the first place, and it doesn't grab me right away, I can delete it without guilt. If I buy a book, I feel obligated to try to read it, even if I've lost interest in the meantime.

That's how it works for me too. That sample function has saved me several dollars and even more irritation!
After new Harry Dresden book, I craved more UF so I'm going through Cal Leandros books (5 so far). Not bad, not bad at all. UF is a tricky genre for me, since I didn't like some of the more popular books (like Iron Druid Chronicles).Off topic but I had to. While writing a new review for Jessewave, I discovered Weeping Cock LJ community. Do not eat or drink while reading. I don't want to be responsible for anyone chocking to death. ~_^

I reckon I've paid for Christmas with the amount Amazon sample has saved me. I read a glowing review and instead of buying the book I get the sample. It feels just as satisfying but it saves me a fortune! And when I get round to reading the sample I read it without any preconceptions, having forgotten the review and why I sampled it.
Lady*M wrote: "After new Harry Dresden book, I craved more UF so I'm going through Cal Leandros books"I LOVE that series. Bromance at its best. :-)
See I don't like Samples cluttering up my Kindle. I am pretty savvy on what books I want to buy and rarely end up with a dog, so I just go ahead and get the book. The books in my TBR list are all the ones I want to read, but when browsing the book titles I forget what is what. I'd love a synopsis. A sample doesn't have a synopsis either, so that would not help me.

One thing I like about Riptide Publishing is that there is a synopsis at the beginning of the book. Samhain adds it, but at the end of the book, and when I get there I'm always very ... duh!

I agree about the blurb before chapter one. I like that idea!
As for black and white ereader covers, when I'm finished with a book, I specifically tell my Kindle to go to the cover and stay there. It's another way to remember the book later on. And if I'm looking at it briefly, I have it go to the cover before I close the book to read another time. It helps. Even if they are in black and white.

Oh I'm glad to hear that. I just bought a pile of books from them this morning. I knew some publishers did it but not exactly who.
Maybe we should suggest to Samhain to move it to the front. Having it at the back of an ebook seems... backwards.

Oh... I'm speechless. BEAUTIFUL cover! That book better be coming out in print! Not only do I have the first two books in print, but that cover is too gorgeous for my ereader. I must look at it a lot. lol. :-)

It seems to hold a printed book :)

Me too. I only downloaded one sample, and because I've already got too many books TBR, I don't need more. Plus, I'm trying to keep my Kindle organized, so that kind of clutter, that's not an actual book would just annoy me. I spent a good amount of time cleaning my bookshelves of RL excerpts and samples that were taking up too much space and looking messy. Don't need that on the Kindle too.
At the same time, if that helps others to save money and what not, then more power to them. You can't please everyone with everything. I think we've already established that a million times over here. ;-)
