Right now, I'm reading books 7-12 of the Dresden Chronicles, which I have to finish by November 26th. 2300 pages, pe..."
Do I want to know why the Dresden marathon? I love them, so of all the series I read, this would be my first choice to power read, but it still seems like an unfortunate way to approach entertaining books.

I know. You want to say it. I'm crazy.

Nope. Been there, done that with other books. (There's always that thing where you could return them, wait 24 hours, and then take them out again, but I hate the hassle.) Can't you renew? Here I get either 9 weeks or 12 weeks with renewals, depending on the library system. (Fortunately, since I use them for homeschool books instead of buying most of the textbooks.) Anyway I hope you enjoy them.

What a perfect time for a Monty Python quote, eh?

With an ebook, you get 21 days at most in my library system (which is better than some at 14 days). You can return it, but then get put back in the queue and to wait again. Also, I think that with ebooks, there's a limit of three times you can take one individual book out.
I know it's all limited, but hey! it's free, right?
And what's this I hear (in another thread) that there was another I Spy book? What? I LOVED the original, and didn't know there was a revisitation of that lovely couple.
Another Lanyon book to put into my 'sabbatical year drought' pile. I have enough put away that I am feeling like a very industrious squirrel.
Those two would be good candidates for a Christmas story some time, wouldn't they? That relationship always felt fragile. It would be nice to show how things were coming along.
So! It's Armistice Day. AKA Veteran's Day. The day when we remember, amongst other things, that some people have real problems.

As far as WW1 books, right now, I'm still thinking about War Horse, which I saw earlier in the year. It focuses on the ground troops who were mounted on horses. The sheer volume of 'face-to-face' death (compared to modern warfare) was overwhelming and grim. Beautifully staged, though not as complex as one might think, since it was adapted from a children's story, but still.

I have to admit I've only read a couple of books by Mary Renault but I absolutely loved every moment of The Persian Boy!

I would say Renault is pretty much the gold standard on historical romance -- certainly gay historical romance.

Remembrance Day here (i.e. with the British Forces) today, including a brief service on the parade square.
I don't know that I have any favourite WWI books but my favourite WWI "thing" is without doubt Blackadder Goes Forth. Hilarious and often unbearably poignant, not only the last episode. It's a really tricky combination but succeeds beautifully IMO.

YES YES YESSSSSSSSSSS Mark and Stephen would make wonderful candidates for a Christmas story... or any other story anytime! :)

The humour is very British throughout. If you find that it's a little too British for your taste, you should at least watch the last episode. Extremely moving/poignant even if you don't actually know who the characters are.

Remember Josh, u promised 2012 :D

It's available now for Kindle and Nook, with paperback to follow.

Bella, Josh's comment is referring to Stephen and Mark from the I SPY series, not Adrien and Jake.

Yes! Susan is right. I do plan to try and do an Adrien and Jake Christmas story for next year. That's the one thing I know for sure.

LOL I know; he promised me on the other thread that there'll be a xmas story on Stephen and Mark from I Spy on 2012. I have no interest on new jake and adrien honestly. For me they had a proper finishing

Hi, Bella!
Also IMO they had a proper finishing, but I'll always be interested in more Jake and Adrien!

I'm sorry, Bella. I must have misunderstood or misspoke. I'm really hoping not to write anything next year if I can help it. Other than the little Christmas story which will be at the end of the year.
The way I feel right now I don't think I'd do a very good job!

All right, so:
- Jake & Adrien, Christmas 2012
- Mark and Stephen, Valentine's day 2013
- summer vacation 2013 with Nick and Perry
- Christmas 2013 with Kit and JX
ETA: Drew and Fraser Halloween 2013 again...
I've got it all figured out so perfectly... I'm not even delusional...

I'm sooo looking forward to it. And I'm hoping Adrien and Jake won't answer every single question posed by your fans, or there won't be anything interesting left to write!

Well, I'm not in my bathrobe and the visiting nephews have eaten all the cookies, but I'm watching a 1960s Japanese ghost movie. KURONEKO. It's not my favorite but it's certainly interesting.

No doubt Pat Barker's Regeneration trilogy, Regeneration, The Eye in the Door and The Ghost Road.

Ebay frustrates me. The only time I've ever bothered is the gap between Christmas and New Years. Everybody was broke so it was a bargain hunter's paradise.
Except for the time one of my program kids stole one of my (biological) kid's trading cards. I replaced all the rare cards courtesy of ebay. Cost a bloody fortune.
I've bought art from Ebay. Paintings and old posters. I've bought other things too, but those are the most interesting for offering access to stuff you'd never be able to find otherwise.

Oh, and a Tiger Tank belt buckle for my DH, because he loves Tigers.

I'm nuts about Black Adder.

I have an interest. Adrien and Jake; are you kidding? I can't wait.

I did my entire military service in England (apart fm my training), and I fell very much in love w/the country. So, a goodly chunk of my enjoyment of Larton was relative to that. It was what I wanted books like Creatures Great and Small to be--that is, the same but w/2 male leads.
Thanks for the rec.
