SOLVED!: Magician's Apprentice and Sand Castles [s]

Hi.

This book was about, I believe, a wizard's or magician's apprentice. He's not very good at magic, however, and can only conjure up sand castles.

The cover shows the magician, who looks kind of like Jughead from Archie Comics. There's a buxom woman on the cover as well.

The author is female and her picture is in the book somewhere. I remember her having longer hair and, I think, she had a leather jacket on. Maybe that'd help? lol

I read this in grade school and have never been able to find anything about it since!
