Naomi (tribalcat) | 307 comments I was in three groups, but dropped two the other day, so I'm currently only active in this group, which I really enjoy :)

*edit*
Oops! I just joined TNBBC after reading the reviews here. Thanks!

Dhfan4life | 114 comments Um, I would say I'm a member of 5 or 6. Now ask me how many I'm active in? I would have to say roughly 4ish. But those usually rotate and vary do to which books I'm currently reading at the time. Just makes it easier to yack and stay in touch when following a particular set of reads and even cuts down on some confusion of getting most recs at times too.

Correction I think I'm in 10 or 11 forgot a few that I added in the last year and some mod ones. But yea mostly still active in very few.

message 53: by Betty (new)

Betty (bettylouise54) | 582 comments I think I belong to 7 groups.

message 54: by ☯Emily (new)

☯Emily Ginder | 58284 comments I belong to 10 groups, but only active in 8.

message 55: by Leslie (new)

Leslie Too many I think! But each group has some feature or resource that I like which is different than the others. I try to read the group book regularly for 3 groups & that is plenty.

message 56: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina The Book Lover | 388 comments I'm in 2 groups and I'm active in both of them (reading the montly book, doing challenges, etc.)

message 57: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (bookcasefrenzy) | 4 comments Just one, but I'm so behind!

message 58: by Dhfan4life (new)

Dhfan4life | 114 comments Haha sometimes it's good to be in just one at times. Too many and it tends to get a bit stressful keeping up with everything going on at times.

message 59: by ☯Emily (new)

☯Emily Ginder | 58284 comments Being in more than one group can be more relaxing because you have more options and can pick and choose what you want to do.

message 60: by Dhfan4life (new)

Dhfan4life | 114 comments Pending on the groups, as some do like members to participate in certain things often. And that is why I cut back on most of the ones I participate in.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Just counted, and right now at 38 (eek)

message 62: by Ruth (new)

Ruth Gosh - I've just had a look and I'm in 18! Without looking I would probably have said about 8...

Obviously then, I'm not active in all of them but there are half a dozen that I rotate between depending on what I'm feeling enthusiastic about.

How does everyone keep up to date with all the posts? Do you get email notifications or rely on regular visits to the group?

message 63: by Dhfan4life (new)

Dhfan4life | 114 comments Holy wowza 38 or even 18, that is like whoa ladies. Good questions Ruth on how to keep up with so many. I usually keep up with the ones based off the books I'm reading in the moment or a mod of really. Though even I have to admit, I've joined some friends' groups and I can't keep up with them cause I'm already apart of groups that serve that particular genre need for me at times. So sometimes my attendance slides a bit in the friends' groups.

message 64: by Karen (new)

Karen (xkamx) | 547 comments I'm only in five, three of which are cozy-related. Another is for mysteries and thrillers and the fifth is a finish-the-series group I was introduced to. Does the annual GoodReads reading challenge count as a group? If so, six.

I think of a few things when I look at joining a group... Do I like the genre enough to actually discuss it with others? How much time do I have to devote to keeping up with the group? Do I "know" other people in the group? For example, I was invited to the finish-the-series group by an online friend who knew I was behind in my series reading. It's been good for my focus (but not lately as I've been distracted from my series reading!).

However, I would have to say I'm not into non-mystery genres enough to join, for example, a romance group or a non-fiction group. Though I read most any genre, I prefer mysteries and knew I'd get more out of these groups than I would just lurking. I lurk (peruse) other groups every now and then, but haven't been compelled to join. I can get most of what I need reading reviews of books I'm interested in. Plus, I find that groups tend to make me add to my TBR -- as if I needed help! -- and I don't need to fill it with even more items I will never get to.

message 65: by Tru (new)

Tru Steamer Moss Diavolo (trusteamermossdiavolo) | 4 comments I joined three as I'm still learning. Once I get the hang of it I may join more.

Yea, does help to at least know some folks that you are pretty chatty with before joining a group. I've learned the hard way about that. Joined a group where I just barely knew one person, got to know others, and before long got caught up in some major cat fight situations, where some folks thought I was a friend to nobody cause I wasn't loyal enough to either side. Which really ticked me off cause I didn't even come to GR for that kind of thing at all in the FIRST place.

message 67: by Famine (new)

Famine (wolfcreed) Six, I think, active in nearly all of them.

message 68: by Dhfan4life (new)

Dhfan4life | 114 comments I second that Mary. Just thing is, it's hard to keep most groups active too in general cause some folks are over particular books and GR groups in general. Or just like to lurk which is cool sometimes. But never hurts to give a intro and a shoutout as to who you are from time to time too.

message 69: by ☯Emily (new)

☯Emily Ginder | 58284 comments This group is active and has been ever since I have been on GR. If there are arguments, I don't hear about them. I am a moderator in another group and though we are solid right now, we don't get a lot of comments because we have a lot of lurkers. That can kill a group after a while since a group needs activity in order to grow and thrive.

message 70: by Angel (new)

Angel | 14 comments Over 40 groups.

I hear ya Emily. I'm a moderator as well. We try different challenges and such that bring peeps out. A few contests here and there which is helpful at times.

message 72: by Dhfan4life (new)

Dhfan4life | 114 comments Angel wrote: "Over 40 groups."

Wow! Are you active in all 40?

message 73: by Dhfan4life (new)

Dhfan4life | 114 comments Mary wrote: "This group is excellent. It's large but peaceful. The folder subjects are interesting too."

I second that.

message 74: by Tina (new)

Tina I am in a couple. As a devoted Christian I am of course interested in Christianity. But I love other genres. Paranormal, steampunk, cozy mysteries, thriller. I grew up as books being my best friends. I was an only child. At the age of 48 they are still my best friends! And I enjoy meeting authors! And corresponding with them, such an honor!!

message 75: by Dhfan4life (new)

Dhfan4life | 114 comments Not a thing wrong with that K.M. that was my initial intention as well. Then I made different friends here and there. And started supporting their groups by joining and so it kind of got away from me a tad.

message 76: by Paula (new)

Paula Adams (goodreadscompadams57) | 44987 comments I'm in 3 groups including this one. I recently discovered The Cozy Mysteries group. Also in Thriller Reads and another about crime reads.

message 77: by Melissa (last edited Jan 07, 2016 10:44AM) (new)

Melissa Eisenmeier (carpelibrumbooks) I've probably joined about a dozen, but I'm only active in a couple. My participation in a couple dropped over the last two or three years.

Anita (Hearts and Whodunits) | 18 comments I'm in 2 different groups.

message 79: by Beverly (new)

Beverly (bjbixlerhotmailcom) | 2332 comments I am in 14 currently, most active in 4: this one, which is the one I joined most recently, Children's Books, Mock Caldecott, and Mock Newbery. (Can you tell I am a children's librarian?)

Ah-h-h, that explains it. I thought you reviewed children's books because you had tiny ones at home.

message 81: by MadameZelda (new)

MadameZelda I am in a dozen currently. I joined other groups because I help my sister find books that are of her interest.

There are times active groups just declined or decided to close shop. And I liked those groups too!

But I am active in one group as it allows me to also complete their challenges using books of other genres.

My tiny ones are in their 30s now.
