24.8 years at 4 books a month (my average).

*sigh*

So that'll hold me until I'm 60.

Tonya (_tonya_) | 0 comments If I read all the books I own and never buy another book (like that's going to happen), it will take me about 13 years to read them all. I really need to stop buying books!

message 3: by Tonya (new)

Tonya (_tonya_) | 0 comments I can't help it. Buying books is an obsession for me. If I find them on sale for really cheap, I HAVE to buy them. The good in that is I rarely buy anything new (good for me, of course, not so good for the author). My husband actually asked me the other day if I had a problem!

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

Same here. Total obsession. If I've had a bad week, a trip to the UBS is my treat to myself. :P

I'm getting a $100 Visa gift card soon for getting a phone & internet bundle and I'm heading over to a UBS I've NEVER been to before. It's also next door to a Ben & Jerry's outlet, so I'll have old smut in one hand while snarfing down Phish Food or Stephen Colbert's Americone Dream with the other. The card just has to GET HERE. *taps foot impatiently*

message 7: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) my new addiction is lots of books off ebay...bad juju!! lol!

assuming I never bought anything again (yeah, like that is going to happen) and read about 10 books month (my norm) about 4 years

Delicious Dee the book slut wrote: "my new addiction is lots of books off ebay"

Um, that's how my TBR increased exponentially. *blushes*

message 9: by Love love (new)

Love love | 120 comments I would have to read 5.5 books a week to finish them in a year. I really only read about 3 books a week so it would probably take me about 1 1/2 years.Though some how my tbr never seems to get reduced, too many good recs. keep coming in. lol

message 10: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) lol...so did mine...150 books in the last 2 weeks...not including the 60 or so, i bought for my kindle off amazon, or the 10 audiobooks from audible...

LMAO =)
And e-bay has been my down fall also. My husband thinks that I needed a 12 step program for e-bay because when he asked "Don't you think you have enough books??" I said "If I don't bid on those lots of books someone else will get them! *gasp*" lol

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh my, I think we might need to start a sub-group, Ebay Book Lot Obsessives Anonymous. I recognize that "No, mine! You can't have!" mindset. :D

I don't even like Harlequins all that much, but there are 2 lots of 106 and 119 books that could go for a song. It's the price per book that's so appealing, I'm sure.

That, and boredom.

message 15: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) lol...i learnt to not log onto ebay at 3am when I was stuck at work with nothing to do...lol!

I got like 40lbs of books a few months back for $120 (including shipping) - ended up being 90 books and the illustious Stormfire was one of them, so that so made up for the cost

Wow, what a lucky buy! Every time I see that 40lbs of books type of thing I'm afraid to bid because I don't know what books they're going to send me. Maybe I should just think of it as an adventure or a lucky grab bag sort of thing.

message 17: by Dee (last edited Jun 07, 2010 02:23PM) (new)

Dee (austhokie) i was suprised...i only got 2 doubles out of the entire bag and 5 that I had read (mostly Julia Quin); the 2 doubles were a Nora Roberts (McGregor's Serena and Caine) and Julie Garwood (For the Roses)

they were all romance...basically they just load up the box until it hits the weight you ordered (10lb increments)

Love love | 120 comments My fingers are iching to go to e-bay!!!! I think I need to wait until I have some more room to put them, but it does sound kinda exciting =)

At my current reading rate (I have been reading so much more this year since I found goodreads and bought my Kindle!) It would take me about 1.5 years to read my current 'books I own TBR'... but I am also a library addict so if I consider how many books I actually own I usually read in a year we are probably looking at more like 3 years... that doesn't seem soooo bad... maybe I need to do some ebay shopping! LOL!

message 20: by KimKirt (new)

KimKirt | 20 comments I usually average 2 books a week (I hardly watch TV, I read at night instead). I think I have 96 books on my list right now, so I'd finish it under a year! But a good bit of them aren't available at the library or used book store, and my budget doesn't allow for me to buy them all. Sigh!

Yes, you brought to mind a good book booth at a local flea market. I had forgotten all about it, I'll have to get back there now and check it out (had young son with me last time and he is not very patient when mommy is looking at books).

message 22: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) My TBR is around 900. If I keep up with a reading average of 4 books a week, make those 4 only TBR books and don't acquire anymore-I can get my TBR read in just over 4 yrs.

I'm in no hurry to get through them or worried that they're taking over. I don't keep anything after I've read them. So I only have about 1,000 books here with about 100 being books up for trade at other sites. I also have no problem getting rid of a book I haven't read yet because I decided I don't like the author or I just can't get into the book.

I'll be moving to much smaller digs though and will have to get my TBR under better control.

message 23: by Joeera (new)

Joeera | 107 comments I have just bought 4 bags of TBR not including the ones that i all ready have.On average i ready 4 books a month so it should take me 3 years to finish them all.

message 24: by Riccarla Roman (new)

Riccarla Roman | 19 comments Since I joined this group, my TBR pile has gotten bigger. I've been hitting thrift stores to find shoes for my daughter to wear as Mae Peterson in "Bye Bye Birdie" and I take a few moments to peruse the books.
I recently found:
Savage Desire by Rosemary Rogers
Love's Daring Dream by Patricia Matthews
Amber Flame by Hannah Howell
Love's Defiant Prisoner by Patricia Phillips

SmittenKitten | 189 comments 12 years at 10 books a month... that puts me at 40 by the time I finish!

Ok, I DID (of course) buy more books so now it will take me about 15 years to read them all!

message 27: by Sans (new)

Sans I have over 800 books at home. If I average 100 books a year (which is my current average), it'll take me 8 years. But if we're talking about my to-read shelf here at GoodReads? Over 15 years. If I miraculously avoid adding anything new to my shelf (yeah, that'll be the day), I'll be 44 when I make it through all those books. *headdesk*

Sans Jeanine ♥ Cheshire Catt ♠ wrote: "HOLY SHEET! I only average 50 - this is taking a serious toll on my reading speed self esteem!"

Don't feel bad at all! One of my friends reads over 300 books per year. I could never wrap my head around how she does it. O_o

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

I read 60 books last year and that nifty stats widget thingy says that I've read that much already, so I'm improving!

message 30: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Huston (telynor) | 50 comments I'll slog through close to a hundred or so books a year, more or less. I do like the fact that GR is helping me keep track of what I have, and have not read -- it does help to avoid rereading something. Or remembering just why I didn't like something. At the rate I'm going, I figure that I have about six good years of reading ahead of me...
