I'm not sure yet where in the medical field I'm going, but I know that's where I'm called. Hi Elaine and Ann - yes, I read Havah and really liked. It was very thought-provoking and gave me a different perspective on things, which I like. LOVE her book Demon: A Memoir - it was one of those "epiphany" books for me =D

Have you ever checked out this author, his name is Ted Dekker and he is awesome. He really gets you to think about what you want in life and I think you will really enjoy him. Check him out!! Hope to hear from you soon---Rachel G.

Ann Correll | 10 comments let me know how you like the Priest Graveyard. I saw it in the store and thought about getting it but had a short one by Ted Dekker called the Chosen. It's been good but I'm so far behind I can't sit down and really enjoy a long read.

message 111: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 20 comments Hey Ann,
you will really enjoy the "Chosen Series" I have all six of the books. So far the book is good, I am just starting chapter four. So it is interesting. I have started at the beginning of Ted Dekker series with "Chosen" and have gone from there on. Hope you like the book!!

The Lost Books ("Chosen" being one of them) is part of a larger series that encompasses The Circle Series and the Paradise novels. If you don't like "Chosen", I would say don't give up on Ted Dekker's books, just try a different book. He has written a lot of really good stuff =D

Rachel | 20 comments You Are right Bonnie, I have read Immanuel's Veins and it was one of Ted Dekker latest novels. It was really good! Another one after I read the "Paradise"novels is "House" it looks a little bit more scarier than usual just to warn you.

Another great book! But I have read all of his books a few times - some I re-read every year. He can definitely write some dark and scary stuff - I read an interview with him once where they were talking about how some people were offended by how dark some of his stuff was, and his response was basically that evil IS dark and he wasn't going to make it seem less than it is (that's my paraphrase lol) Anyway, I think that just like any other author, some will like his books and others won't. It's wonderful that we have such an incredible selection of rich stories/storytellers to choose from =D

message 116: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 20 comments You are right Bonnie,
People should not judge authors so harshly. I am glad that Ted Dekker writes those stories to help people see the light and yes that evil is scary. I hope you keep enjoying his books. Hope to hear from you soon.

Ann Correll | 10 comments Welcome Estavan. What type of Christian books do you enjoy? YA, love, mystery..?

message 129: by Estevan (new)

Estevan Alvarado Hi Ann,

I tend to like Christian books that are thrillers. I have read the whole Left Behind Series and the The Chronicles of Naria. I have several other books I want to read like the series before Left Behind.

I am also a big John Grisham fan.

Estevan

message 130: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 20 comments Hey Estevan,
have you ever head of Ted Dekker? He is my most favorite christian author who write thrillers you would really enjoy him.
Check him out!!
Rachel

message 131: by Estevan (new)

Estevan Alvarado Hi Rachel,

Thanks I plan. Do you have recommendations on which book to start with or do you have a favorite Ted Dekker book?

Thanks
Estevan

message 132: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 20 comments Hey Estevan,
There are lots of series when it comes to Ted Dekker. I like the "Circle Series" which has four books in it. I have started at the very begining when it comes to Ted Dekker which is "The Lost Book" series which gets you prepared for the "Circle Series". If you ever pick up a book by Ted Dekker you can see inside what series he has written. I am still on "The Priest Graveyard" which is recently a new book of his you would enjoy it. Also I plan on going down the list of his books and have you ever heard of "House" Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker wrote the book together and they even made a movie about it, looks pretty scary. Another thing you can do is go on yutube and check out the movie trailers on some of the book he has written. They are awesome, hope that helps you out!!

P.S. I have yet to find a book for favorites from Ted, still reading!

Sincerely Rachel

message 133: by Estevan (new)

Estevan Alvarado Thank you Rachel. I was looking at Ted Dekker "Circle Series" today. I was not sure which book to buy first out of the series. I heard some people say start with the "Black" others say to start with "Green." I will take a look at the "Lost Book Series" this weekend. I also found out I have a copy of "Riven" by LaHaye on my kindle that I got a few months ago. I may start reading it since it is the book for Aug.

Thanks
Estevan

message 134: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 20 comments Hey Estevan,
I say you should start with "Green" since it is book zero in the series. Then Black, Red and finally White. That was the order I read them and it was great. Hope you enjoy them and have a good weekend.

Rachel

message 135: by Estevan (new)

Estevan Alvarado Thank you. You have a great weekend.

P.S. I realized I made a mistake in my earlier post. Riven is by Jerry Jenkins. I started reading it last night for a couple minutes.

message 136: by Linda (new)

Linda Yezak (lindayezak) | 2 comments I can't remember whether I introduced myself or not. Things have been so crazy around here, then my internet service went out (for a week!!!), leaving me high and dry.

I'm Linda Yezak, author of Give the Lady a Ride and one of the editors at Port Yonder Press. I've been on Goodreads for a few months, but I'm still learning my way around.

Riven is an incredible book, and I'm looking forward to reading it again. Jenkins achieved something I didn't know was possible--he made a bad guy sympathetic. Maybe after reading it again, I'll see just how he did that.

I'm looking forward to sharing with this group!

message 137: by Dock (new)

Dock Hoilman (therealdock) | 1 comments Hi! I'm Dock... I'm excited about the prospects of being part of this group. It's hard to believe that I NEVER read for pleasure until about 10 years ago when I picked up a Ted Dekker audio book. Always being a fan of radio drama, something just clicked. WOW... how much time I wasted!

I have since read every Dekker and Peretti book and enjoy authors such as C.S. Lewis, Bill Meyers, and Randy Alcorn. My tastes have expanded authors like Francine Rivers and Colleen Coble.

I really appreciate a good story where God's truth is shared on a level that challenges me and causes me to think and grow. God has used many authors in amazing ways and I am SO thankful for their impact.

Looking forward to the impact of this group!

message 138: by CassieV (new)

CassieV Hi everyone, I'm Cassie, a stay-at-home mom of two. I used to read a lot of fiction before I was saved, but then got away from it for a while to read mostly nonfiction christian writers. Some of my current favorites are C.S. Lewis, David Platt, John MacArthur, and many, many others. I've enjoyed the chance to learn more about Christianity, but now that I have a three and one year old I don't have as many chances to get out, leaving me LOTS of time at home. I'm looking forward to getting good suggestions from you all :) and I've already started Riven (which is pretty good so far). Looking forward to getting to know you all better!

message 139: by Holly (new)

Holly Kisly (Holly_Kisly) Hi everyone,
I am new to Goodreads and this group. Just trying to learn how things work. I enjoy reading Christian fiction and nonfiction. Until this past year or so, most of my reading was nonfiction. Mary Kassian, Nancy Leigh DeMoss, Susan Hunt, Elyse Fitzpatrick, Piper, MacArthur are some of my favorites. With the free or heavily discounted eBooks, I discovered contemporary Christian fiction. Now I no longer limit myself to the "discount rack". Looking forward to sharing with you all.

Rachel | 20 comments Hey Holly I have been here for a while. What books are you interested in?

--Rachel G.

message 143: by Holly (new)

Holly Kisly (Holly_Kisly) Hi Rachel,
I have read Lynn Austin, Frank Perreti, Ted Dekker, Francine Rivers, Chris Fabry, and others. I am a big fan of Nora Zeale Huston, J California Cooper as well.
Not a huge fan of romance unless it is cushioned by a really great story. Read suspense, thrillers, contemporary fiction. But pretty new to Christian Fiction and would appreciate recommendations.
Holly

message 144: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 20 comments Hi Holly,
What books have you read of Ted Dekker? There is one that Frank Perreti and Ted Dekker have done together, it is called "House" and I have yet to read it. So, anyway I hope to hear from you soon. I mostly read Christain books nothing else.
Sincerely your friend---Rachel G.

Holly Kisly (Holly_Kisly) Hi Rachel,
I haven't read House cause, but I am going to check it out. TY. I've read This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness. They revolutionized my prayer life. It has been a while since I read Dekker so I am going to check out my bookcases and see what's there. I am looking forward to the Sept book regardless of the winning title. Looking forward to reading the comments and insight.
Do you read fiction and non? Who is your must-read author?
Holly

message 146: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 20 comments Hey Holly,
I love to read both non-fiction and fiction. Right now my must-read author would have to be Ted Dekker and Lisa T. Bergren. I have started reading from the top of Ted's list of books he has written. Which started with the "Chosen"series, then the "Circle"series and now I am on the "Paradise"series. Though I have read some of his newer one in between like-"The Priest Graveyard", "Immanuel Veins" and so on. For Lisa T. Bergren she wrote the "The River of Time Series" Which started out with book one called "Waterfall" which was awesome then the second book was called "Cascade". If you like to read about medieval time period with some romance in it, you would really enjoy this series. Check it on ytube it is really cool!! I have yet to wait for her third book which is called "Torrent" which comes out in September. Been waiting for it to come out since the begging of June! So I hope this helps you and I look forward to chatting with you!!

Sincerely your friend---Rachel G.

David Reynolds | 4 comments Hey!
Relatively new here myself. #2 in the most recent poll was http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12... which I, naturally, have to recommend. There are reader comments on the author site: http://www.ddoylereynolds.com/Comment... that compare to Perreti and Koontz (both authors I like). It's available as an eBook as well for about $3.
