Tom Jackson (goodreadscomtom_jackson) | 1 comments Okay, I will be shameless and promote my book, 'The Devil's Legacy', here. This is the blurb:

The opening of Pandora’s Box creates pandemonium in the office of the British Prime Minister. A team is assembled to solve a two hundred year old conspiracy in order to prevent the Box’s incredible secrets from being revealed to the world and plunging British society into chaos. Will the search for truth be successful? And will it result in the restoration of a country’s stolen heritage?

What is the bizarre umbilical cord that links the 200-year old theft of the Parthenon Marbles to the Turkish Governor of Athens, Jack the Ripper, Winston Churchill, the Titanic, Napoleon Bonaparte, the British Royal family, an obscure nineteenth century Italian artist and a Koala bear?

‘The Devil’s Legacy’ is available now as an ebook on the Internet from Smashwords (http://www.smashwords.com/), and from online ebook retailers including: Amazon, Apple, Barnes & Noble, Sony, Kobo, Diesel and others.

Sterling Gate Books (sterlinggatebooks) | 1 comments The Amazon Kindle edition of our historical adventure-romance Fiji is FREE until Monday March 12 PST.

Set in 19th Century Fiji, it is “a spellbinding novel of adventure, cultural misunderstandings, religious conflict and sexual tension set in one of the most exotic and isolated places on earth”.

In the mid-1800's, Fiji was a melting pot of cannibals, warring native tribes, sailors, traders, prostitutes, escaped convicts and all manner of foreign undesirables. It's in this hostile environment in our story that an innocent young Englishwoman and a worldly American adventurer find themselves. Despite their differences, there’s an undeniable chemistry between them. When their lives are suddenly endangered by marauding cannibals, they are forced to rely on each other for their very survival.

Ryan Petty Here is my shameless plug for my book, The Life He Never Knew, a Civil War historical fiction based at the battle of Shiloh in 1862:

Thomas has war fever in 1862 as he marches toward the Yankee invaders in Tennessee. But his accidental run into a beautiful Southern Belle makes him question his own motives for being in the war, his thoughts on slavery, secession, and his own death. Troubled by his emotions and in learning of the death of one of his brothers at Wilson's Creek, he is also wounded in a small skirmish with Louisiana Unionists. Now only being carried by the camaraderie of his fellow Texas soldiers, he and his regiment march toward southern Tennessee to meet an unknown Northern enemy next to a small community and church named Shiloh, where Thomas will learn what it means to give all you can for your country. Will Thomas survive the battle to make it home again, or will this be the life he never knew?

The book can be purchased through Whiskey Creek Press, Amazon, or myself for paperback (yes, I will even sign it for you!), as well as Amazon and B&N as an e-book.

A link to a full review can be found at my website: www.ryan-petty.com. Also, check out what people have been saying on amazon as well.

If you are really into a military historical fiction, action adventure, with a few twists and turns, this might be the book for you!

The Outcast (Orestes, #2) by Laura Gill The Outcast

Seven years have passed since Orestes witnessed the savage murder of his father Agamemnon and fled for his life.

Now, aged twenty, he is ready to reclaim his birthright as king of Mycenae, and avenge his father’s murder—by killing his own mother, a crime that will label him a matricide. He will be shunned by all men, and hounded into madness by the demonic Erinyes, the relentless Daughters of Night. Orestes’ only hope of redemption lies in trial by sanity, an ordeal which will take him to the very edge of terror. Will he survive as a whole man, and receive ritual purification in order to claim his throne, or will he perish in the attempt?

Christina Clair (christina777) | -13 comments book:Terrible Toes|13559063]is now available on Kindle.
Terrible Toes, a book written for children, but hopefully a meaningful read for adults too, is set in 1960 in London, and is about the damage class discrimination causes to the innocent. Lesley, the heroine in the story, longs to go to an elite girls' school, but she is a working class kid. After an excruciating interview with a snobbish headmistress, she is convinced there is something wrong with her toes.
The book is 120 pages in length.
I didn't write it specifically as historical fiction, but it is in fact a story about a time in English education that hopefully has faded into the past. It is based on an actual incident that happened to a little girl.

Faith Justice | 163 comments Free ebook--Hypatia: Her Life and Times by Faith L. Justice

Hypatia, the 5C Philosopher from Alexandria, has been the subject of much mythmaking through the centuries. She’s the subject of poetry, plays, novels and movies. Many people “quote” her, including one of my favorites: “Fables should be taught as fables, myths as myths, and miracles as poetic fantasies.” I’ve studied Hypatia and her times since 1980. No writing by her has survived. This oft-quoted statement and many others are fabrications—fables—created by modern authors. Ironically, many who champion truth perpetuate a mythical version of Hypatia’s life and words. This collection of essays pulls back the curtain and lets the reader see the real Hypatia, a remarkable woman in her own right. I’m sure you’ll find, like me, Hypatia needs no embellishments to be a heroine. For those interested, I hope you check out Hypatia: Her Life and Times.

Diane Lewis Here is my shameless self-promotion. I have three books out:
The False Light
Forced from France by her devious guardian on the eve of the French Revolution, Countess Bettina Jonquiere must deliver an important package to further the royalist cause. In England, she discovers the package is full of blank papers, the address false and she’s penniless. Stranded in a Cornish village, Bettina toils in a bawdy tavern and falls in love with a man who may have murdered his unfaithful wife. Tracked by ruthless revolutionaries, she must uncover the truth about her father’s murder—and her lover’s guilt—while her life is threatened.

Without Refuge

In 1796, ruined countess Bettina Jonquiere leaves England after the reported drowning of her lover, Everett. In New Orleans she establishes a new life until a ruthless Frenchman demands the money stolen by her father at the beginning of the French Revolution. She is forced on a dangerous mission to France where she unravels dark family secrets, but will she find the man she lost as well?

Elysium
In 1815, Napoleon Bonaparte is exiled to remote Saint Helena. The Chef’s daughter, Amélie, is determined to rise in importance and entice her emperor with her beautiful singing voice. She is soon drawn into his clash with their British jailers, court intrigues and a burgeoning sexual attraction. Amélie suspects someone in their entourage is poisoning him. Now she must earn his love, uncover the culprit and join in Napoleon’s last great battle plan, a dangerous escape.

If you like Titanic/Edwardian fics, this is for you. If not, skip it :)

Summary: The narrator, Mary Catherine Ashley, is the younger sister and begrudging personal secretary of fictitious White Star Line owner John Ashley. While she is as privileged as they come (and would admit it too), Mary Catherine lives a bitter life. She has suffered from crippling headaches and worsening eyesight for years. And her one chance of romantic love and true happiness was unfairly ripped from her grasp as a young woman when she and her soul mate were forced apart. By the time she boards the Titanic, she has become a shell of her former self and grumbles her way through society events, her brother's demands and strained interactions with her former lover.

Lee Mandel | 9 comments My turn for shameless self-promotion.
My debut novel, "Moryak: A Novel of the Russian Revolution" won the Grand Prize for fiction at the Santa Fe Creative Arts Council literary competition in 2010. It's the story of Lieutenant Stephen Morrison, a naval officer sent on a covert mission by President Theodore Roosevelt. He is to team up with British agent Sidney Reilly and remove Tsar Nicholas II from Russia before he can sabotage the upcoming Portsmouth Peace Conference. The mission goes awry and Morrison is captured and sentenced to death. By a quirk of fate, he is instead sent to the Russian prison camp on Solovetsky Island.
The second part traces Morrison's life as a Russian immigrant to NYC in the 1880s. As the son of a Russian rabbi, he wants nothing more than to become an assimilated American. He battles anti-Semitism throughout his adolescence and years at the US Naval Academy and is able to build a successfult career as a naval officer.
The third part begins at Solovetsky Island, where his increasingly violent nature allows him to come to dominate the prison camp as 'Moryak' (Russian for Sailor). He catches the eyes of the Bolshevik prisoners and after a decade, when he is released, he is invited to to join them. He soon penetrates Lenin's inner circle. All the while, they are unaware that he is actually a spy for the Allies as the chaos of World War I leads to the Russian Revolution.
The book has been very well-reviewed and is historically accurate. I invite all to view my website at http://www.leemandelmd.com to read more reviews, as well as my Goodreads page. Also, you can read a recent blog interview I gave on http://julzreads.wordpress.com.

Sherry (msjones) | 1 comments White Heart is now available from Simon and Schuster as an e-novella for only $1.99! Here's the description:

A woman's power lies in her beauty. For years, Blanche de Castille, the White Queen of France, has lived by this maxim—passed on by her grandmother, ElÉonore d'Aquitaine, as she took the girl to marry King Louis VIII. When her husband dies unexpectedly, however, Blanche finds that beauty is not enough to hold, and command, a kingdom against usurpers eager to wrest the Crown from her woman's grasp. Faced with an English invasion, barons' uprisings, and slanderous rumors, Blanche must look within herself for the strength she needs to guard the throne for her young son. Her bold response shocks the kingdom and shapes her into the formidable, seemingly heartless mother-in-law to Marguerite of Provence, wife of King Louis IX (Saint Louis) and the eldest of the "Four Sisters, All Queens" in Sherry Jones's forthcoming novel.

Includes an excerpt to the upcoming Four Sisters, All Queens, to be published by Gallery Books, May 8, 2012.

Gortner, whose books I adore and who I am lucky enough to call a friend after we met up at the last Historical Novel Society Conference. But when we started talking about the Q&A I realized two things: that I was tired of talking about myself, and that I was more interested in hearing Christopher's opinion about what's good, what's bad, and what's controversial about writing HF. He had some wonderful things to say, of course, and we ended up posting our resulting conversation. I think this group might enjoy it!

Hi, all - I have a free Kindle book and a Giveaway to promote:

I am offering, free, at Amazon's Kindle store:
A Killing Among the Dead by Diana Wilder
A Killing Among the Dead

This is for one day, tomorrow, starting midnight (I think it's midnight Seattle time). Here's the link for the kindle store:
http://www.amazon.com/Killing-Among-T...

This was my ABNA entry:

Wenatef opens his eyes to darkness and intense silence. The air is heavy with myrrh: he is in a burial chamber. Pain lances through his left side as he tries to raise himself, bringing the taste of blood to his lips. His life ebbs as he remembers how the nightmare began..

One of his men had come screaming of destruction and mutilation in the tomb of Egypt's greatest king. Wenatef set out to stop the sacrilege only to find that the very people he is sworn to protect were blocking him. He dreams of judgment before the gods and awakens to find new strength and even more questions. Whose blood is pooled on the floor beneath him and caked on his side when he seems, now, to be unhurt?

Wenatef lets his enemies think they have killed him and sets out to uncover who is robbing and defiling the dead. Each new discovery brings him closer to the heart of a far-flung scandal of greed and betrayal that reaches a climax in a final confrontation in the great Temple of Karnak beneath the gaze of the gods.

A KILLING AMONG THE DEAD is a historical mystery set during ancient Egypt's declining years. It is a tale of betrayal, revenge and redemption, and one man's discovery that no matter how alone we seem in our struggle against evil, the Great Ones are never far away.

I hope you enjoy it!

My Giveaway is for

Pharaoh's Son by Diana Wilder
Pharaoh's Son

http://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/sho...

The crash of Pharaoh's colossal statue into a throng of worshippers brings the festival of the good god Ptah of Memphis to a sudden, bloody end. Prince Khaemwaset, the High Priest, barely escapes being killed, himself. He finds clues in the wreckage that show that the disaster was deliberately set. Now he is confronted with questions that grow more alarming with every answer he finds as the great temple of Ptah is rocked by a chilling series of murders.

Increasingly entangled in clues that lead to even more mysteries, convinced that the gods themselves are taking a hand in the disaster, he appeals to Pharaoh for help and is sent a powerful ally in his eldest brother Hori, Egypt's Crown Prince, whose courage and resourcefulness are surpassed only by his bluntness.

The brothers fight against time as they try to unravel the mystery, knowing that there is more at stake than treasure, and the forfeit is greater than a man's life. Something great and terrible is stirring, something they must find, hidden deep within the temple, something they must bring into the light before those who walk in darkness take it and turn it to evil.

PHARAOH'S SON is a historical novel set during the golden years of Ramesses the Great. It is a tale of murder, intrigue and hidden treasure that reaches back into Egypt's heresy-shrouded past.

I hope you enjoy both!
