I know that if a heroine can get on some people nerves, then surely a hero can too.

So ladies, do you care to share the names of the hero that has gotten on your nerves, if there are any?

message 2: by Kathy Anne (last edited May 28, 2010 06:48PM) (new)

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) Dimitri -Vamp Acadamy-R Mead
Dimitri is getting on my last nerve in the last couple of books, then he will turn around and be diff again,I don`t know what to expect of him in this last book anymore

Debbie (halfpint66) | 272 comments There was one from a few years ago. The title and author escape me now, but uptil the end, I liked the hero, but at the end, he did something that just totally turned me off. The heroine left him and he of course realized he was wrong and it was all his fault and needed to get her back. Well, when he found her, he literally dropped to his knees, wrapped his arms around her and literally started to cry and BEG her to come back to him. I just couldn't handle that.

message 4: by Zee (new)

Zee Monodee (zee_monodee) | 688 comments I don't find the heroes annoying usually. Dunno why it's the women who get to me!

I do recall not liking the hero in Tears of Jade. Too secretive, and he still slept with his wife (no love for her but she 'knew which buttons to push') while in love with the heroine. That was an ick factor for me.

That is definitely an ick thing to do!!

message 6: by Kathy Anne (new)

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) I usually only pay attention to the heros and don`t find many of them irritating-they have to be real dogs to the h before I do.
I don`t care for h that play too big of a part in the story and blocks the H out.Thats one of the reasons I like JR Wards h and her stories so much, and its one of the reasons I don`t like Chick Lit

Bradford Maitland from Glorious Angel by Johanna Lindsey
Gray from After the Night by Linda Howard
Hero from Perfect Sin by Kat Martin
Jared Burkett from Paradise Wild by Johanna Lindsey

Heroes who are completely awful to the heroine and don't make up for it or grovel, or for no good reason definitely get on my nerves. Diana Palmer heroes are usually pretty tortured or messed up, and they make amends, so most of them redeem themselves well.

I don't like heroes who have no respect for women and treat them like disposable kleenex. That's why I don't care for a lot of rake heroes.

I really, really, really don't like cheaters! I will avoid most books with cheaters.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 474 comments I find the early heroes in Johanna Lindseys book annoying, I cna't really remember there names now, but they were just ick!

I have got to say I have never read a hero that has cheated on the heroine, the closest would be BDB when Rhage goes off to that bar and has sex to calm the dragon whilst he is with Mary, I didn't like that ery much but you understood why, so I still adore Rhage.

Edward and Jacob from Twilight get on my wick sometimes. Especially Edward, he is older and should know better. Lol sometimes I read them and wish Wrath or Bones would show up in them and see what happens.

Also Bill, and Alcide from the Sookie Stakehouse series, they annoy me sometimes aswell.

message 9: by Kathy Anne (new)

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) Suzanne,
You are right about Bill and Alcide,I guess there are more that bother me somewhat than I realized, but I do remember the h that do.

message 10: by Zee (new)

Zee Monodee (zee_monodee) | 688 comments Yup Darcy. It totally turned me off that read. It was still in the time when I finished a book nevertheless but the read just spiralled downwards for me after that.

Danielle - I wonder how a man who has no respect for women be called or even labelled a hero.

Michelle Gilmore | 151 comments Lachlain MacRieve from A Hunger Like No Other. In a quite a few books, the hero and heroine start out at odds with each other and I'm ok with that, but he was just too much!

Kiyo for Richelle Mead's Dark Swan series. I didn't care for him in either book.

Richard from LKH's Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series.

message 13: by Ty (new)

Ty Richard from LKH's Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series.

omg ditto. I wanted to slap him silly sometimes and yell, grow some damn balls! [can I say that on here? sorry!:]

speaking of LKH, some of her weepy Merry Gentry sperm donors make my eye twitch. Nicca, Kitto, Bedmate 3, Bedmate 11, Frost when he's whiny, hell, even Barinthus in the last book made me want to stab him. ugh.

Okay, so LKH and I are currently fighting, as you can see - I am having issues with her latest offerings. Anita and I haven't spoken in years and Merry is really really close to being put on my Do Not Call list. It's so disheartening to see an author butcher her characters like LKH has done.....

That is too funny!! I am not there yet, but....

Fani *loves angst* (fanip) Hero from Perfect Sin - Danielle you took that out of my mouth. What a total jerk he was!

Another bad hero for me was Alex from Potent Pleasures by Eloisa James. The man kept belittling, shouting and calling the heroine a liar and a cheat every once in a while and she -of course she belongs in the heroines who annoy me list as well- kept forgiving him in a heartbeat. Plus, he didn't grovel much in the end.

I know I'm gonna hit a lot of people's buttons with this one, but a hero who annoyed me -though I didn't hate him- was Freddie from Liz Carlisle's The devil you know. Yeah, people love this book, but Freddie kept this 'woo, poor me' style for way too long and for reasons, that well, didn't quite convince me.

I'm glad it's not just me, Fani. I thought that guy was really repugnant, Fani. I wanted a house to fall on him.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 474 comments I thinkI may have to give thise books a iss then, especially the Eloisa James one, I don't think I could get through a book like that without getting really annoyed!

hi,
that reminds me of one of the books in the Ice Series by Anne Stuart. If i'm not wrong it's the book before the last.
In the final "scene", that i found ...eh...weird...and to dramatic for me..the hero does the kneeling part..because he was oh! so sorry for being a jerk all this time. Like you said, the heroin had left the guy before, so it was surprise surprise!
I did liked the guy, even being a jerk (he only was like that to protect her, of course), but the end was a bit of a ..WTF are you doing man?
Well, if it isn't the book you talked about..it means there's at least two people who like to have men doing the running to your arms and kneel thing..

I truly hate Bill from the Sookie Stakehouse..he's always depressed..and makes a lot of stupid decisions..much like sookie, but that's another story.

I don't like when heroes are MEGA protective and controlling over the fair lady, and (at the same time)don't mind having sex with every thing that moves (that has boobs, 'course)...but if the lady tries to talk to another men, HE (the poor guy who talks to the lady) MUST DIE!! that's just annoying...

Oh, and yeah..when heroes are man-whores it's annoying to see them asking the lady's how many lovers did they had. I mean, you're a slut and you get jealous because your lady friend had sex with her ex? at least she knew the guy..uff, i kinda needed to get that out...´
and i don't have anything against sluts or man-whores

...bye
and sorry for some bad words

LKH is Laurell K. Hamilton, she writes 2 series, the Anita Blake series and the Merry Gentry series.

You may not want to buy her books, but the early Anita ones are good and worth checking out at the library.

Kindlelicious | 6 comments I really hated Kiyo from the Dark Swan series as well. He drove me nuts! Also, in Shelly Laurenston's Pride series, I loved Mitch in his book, but he drove me crazy in the following two.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 474 comments No way I loved Mitch, he always made me laugh, he was such an adorable idiot at times : )

That describes him perfectly. He is so spoiled that it is funny especially when he starts talking about his hair.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 474 comments Those bits always make me laugh. He loves his mane!

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 474 comments Yeah I have to say when I first met him it never even occured to me that she might pair them up, they are so different.

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) I thought he was OK in the first books and then it seemed to me he changed drastically, almost like a different person. And Ward is one great writer ,to have come up with these guys was very, very good IMO-they are one of a kinds for sure.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 474 comments I am glad I am not the only one : ) I understand why people don't like him as much as the others, but I still really like him.

You're not alone. I think Phury gets picked on for being flawed. He's no more flawed than the other brothers. His flaws just don't seem as 'sexy' as the other Brothers, IMHO.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 474 comments That's very true, I don't think people see his as sympathetic as his problems stem from what he does to himself, rather then what others have done to him. He also differs quite a lot in personality from the rest of the Brothers, he isn't quite as forceful, though he has his moments.

message 39: by Kathy Anne (last edited Jun 21, 2010 02:28PM) (new)

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) Seems to me like Ward took a change in direction in his story too,I remember we were all quite surprised he turned out to be this real stoner when that wasn`t made clear earlier ,to me anyway, and then many don`t like his Bella interest ,when I laid all the blame on her for her quite intimate way of relating to him.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 474 comments I wasn't that suprised that he was a stoner, he was pretty much smoking through the previous books, I was suprised at the leel of his addiction though. I think the books changed their focus as well, so it wasn't so much on the romance, which alot of people didn't like

message 41: by Kindlelicious (new)

Kindlelicious | 6 comments I didn't mind Phury, I just didn't like the romance part of the book. By the time he smoked himself silly, there was very little time for him to fall in love. Seemed like it was an afterthought.

message 42: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 704 comments I have to say I am one who was annoyed by Phury and the only worse thing, for me, was Cormia. They are perfectly matched. :P

message 43: by Kathy Anne (last edited Jun 21, 2010 07:24PM) (new)

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) Kindlelicious

Phury was an afterthought is a perfect summary of that book ,I thought so too
And I thought it a little strange to be in the same house together for a month, and neither one of them even said Hi???
Ward is a great writer but I just never could catch up with her in this book.

Darcy,
I do think your right that she did match them up perfectly, after it all ended I never was sure where they did end up or really even care what kind of job he ended up with.

message 45: by Kathy Anne (new)

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) Oh,I think your right Danielle, way sweet for the series tho don`t you think. My cousin thinks they are a good balance for the others but I really disliked that story,it just didn`t seem like Ward wrote it to me.

You're not alone. I loved it. But I love all the WARDen's books. Dark Lover and Lover Eternal are four star reads. The rest are five stars. I guess I need to reread them and see if I'd like them more now.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 474 comments For me Lover Unbound is the weak chain in the books, I don't know why as I liked V and Jane and didn't mind the whole ghost thing, I was glad they got their HEA, 'cos really that is what I am reading for. But I just didn't enjoy his as much as the others.

I liked Cormia and Phury, they were sweet, but I also agree with Kathy Anne that they are different from the other couples, they weren't as aggressive

message 48: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Loves 'Em Lethal (new)

I like that they were different and more innocent.

message 49: by Kathy Anne (new)

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) LOL,he wasn`t being real innocent when he was throwing the moves on Bella !And remember what he did to save Z,I think he would have torn Lions apart with his bare hands then, maybe those things are what gave me a different pic of him at first

I don't think he stepped out of line with Bella. I consider Phury a gentleman (although I didn't like the prostitute scene at all).
