I agree that the book series are alike, but strangely, i'm happy that she is doing it like that because i loved the mortal instruments series
:)
:)
sorry to say but Jem is NOTHING like Simon, i don't know what you've read about the new series, but from the excerpts i read it was clear that they're different. Even Will is different in some ways. i don't know about Tessa though. and most importantly the love triangle is different. Simon & Jace hated each other, while Jem is the only person that Will actually has respect for. So two best friends are in love with one girl, not two guys who hate each other and one of them is also the girl's best friend while the other is her "brother".

As for Will, he really doesn't sound any different at all to me. Like I said before I know the plot is different so the fact that their best friends is no news to me. I guess in my opinion Will and Tessa seem exactly like Jace and Clary. I haven't read much on Tessa so she could be very different but Will to me seems EXACTLY like Jace.
i've only read the excerpts so it's not like i can assume much, but from what i read Jem seems different. the reason i say Will is somewhat different is the way he treats the whole shadowhunter traditions and stuff and how he doesn't care much for it, where Jace was really into it. he wasn't brought up as a shadowhunter like Jace was. however i see where ur coming from, and i guess we can just hope and wait to see if it's different from the MI series.

Whatever the case I agree. We'll just have to wait and see.

Thanks! That just got me really excited.
Meh, i went to this book convention thing when i was like 8 (the time i didn't discover my love for reading) and people were giving out free ARC books and i hate myself for not taking any...Bleh.. :(
sometimes you can contact the publisher and get free copies :)

Tia ARC is Advanced Reading Copy :)
I'll reserve my comments until I've read CA. But based on excerpts, the similarity of the characters from MI, and ID are very minute. Cassie just tweeted that where Clary is impractical, Tessa is practical.

I've also read so Tessa/Clary differences recently I'm not as focused on those two.

if you want to join the group as well thats wonderful too :]
i gotta be honest i liked TMI more. and Jace is better than Will although they seem very alike. but true, Tessa is more practical and witty than Clary.but still, with the similarities and all, im still gonna read the series. :)
Personally I think Will is way more horrible than Jace. I love Jace but really don't like Will. I agree that a lot of it is similar, but I think Tessa is pretty different, more of a wimp, more naive because she cant see that Jem likes her etc. But i still liked her character because not everyone is strong and secure, and it fits the period.....sorry i'm drivelling. But that's my opinion!
Maddy wrote: "Personally I think Will is way more horrible than Jace. I love Jace but really don't like Will. I agree that a lot of it is similar, but I think Tessa is pretty different, more of a wimp, more naiv..."same here! i love Jace but Will is so his worst version. he's actually irritating.
Maddy wrote: "Personally I think Will is way more horrible than Jace. I love Jace but really don't like Will. He's more closed off and just plain nastier.
Personally, I like Will a lot. I don't think he's a "bad version" of Jace. In fact I think it'd be worse if he was too much like Jace (sure they have things in common but you get it). I'd like him even less because nothing's better than the original!
Carly wrote: "Jen I totally agree with you. Will is everything I hate about Jace and nothing I love."No! I don't hate Will at all. I just like Jace better because I think he's a softer, more caring character and Will is much, much darker. I'm glad he's different though. If he was exactly like Jace, I'd hate him.
Jen wrote: "Carly wrote: "Jen I totally agree with you. Will is everything I hate about Jace and nothing I love."No! I don't hate Will at all. I just like Jace better because I think he's a softer, more carin..."
I can see why you would hate him if he was exactly like Jace but he is such a jerk
yeah. will is almost nothing like jace!!! jace is waaaay sweeter and is more comfortable saying what he feels. will just keeps it all locked up in that mind of his. . .
but i like tessa better than clary. tessa sounds smarter than clary to me. since obviously she loves to read and has learned a lot more than clary. i like her quick thinking moments especially when she talks back at will. and who could forget the end with mortmain??
jem. not simon. i never liked simon. but jem, i LOVE. i don't think they are to be compared. simon is not like jem at all. simon's the nerdy best friend!! but still nice.
plus this book has something i love that TMI doesn't have. a BROMANCE!!! Jem and Will are just so cute when they're with each other!!!
Sorry this post was so loooong. i'm sure ur bored so i'll stop.

I get that all authors follow a formula. Stephen King will always write horror and Jodi Picoult will always write about family relationships with a cheap twist at the end (My Sister's Keeper being an exception, IMO). So to say that Clare's book is an exact copy of the CoB is wrong. It's a new world, new storylines, etc.
But it seems to me that Clare has not changed the characters at all. That makes me nervous. Will is Jace. I read in an interview that they're ancestors, but they're exactly the same. Tessa is Clary (except a Downworlder), pretty girl who doesn't know about SH until she reaches age 16. They will CLEARLY fall in love and there will clearly be a love triangle (or trapezoid) between them and I'm guessing Jem (who, it is fair to guess, is Simon). I know the world is different and I'm excited about reading a period piece with the costumes and all that. But I believe that they will come off as "cheap knock offs" of characters we know and love.
What's the good thing about this? I always crave to experience the "reading a favorite book for the first time" feeling again and maybe I'll get that from CA.
Please don't take this as a bashing of Clare or the new series. I'm looking forward to reading it regardless.
