Where are you right now? How far to the nearest Wal-Mart? -> odd religion lookey-loo!
!!!!
Australia! No Wal-Mart in Australia?
this is why we need this thread.
Gus, Julie, Clark... Where are you?

Gus, Julie, Clark... Where are you?
Clark is in Michigan, Gus is in one of the Carolinas, I think Julie is in N California, but I could be wrong about that.
Sarah Pi lives in Baltimore, I think Gretchen is from DC, somewhere near Baltimore anyways because Sarah wants her to try a beer from there.

I prefer to think of myself in John Waters town, thank you very much.
Gretchen lives somewhere in Northern Virginia, aka Land of the Lost.
John Waters town isn't Chicago? Huh.
Speaking of Land of the Lost, that is one movie we watched in the hospital after Leah was born. Good flick. Or maybe it was the pain medication.

Yes, but it's not the same behemoth as it is here.
And John Waters is most certainly not from Chicago. I sentence you to watch Pecker. Or Serial Mom. Or A Dirty Shame, which was filmed in my neighborhood.
ETA: I'm not sentencing you to watch Pink Flamingos or Female Trouble because you have an innocent baby in the room.
John Waters is also responsible for Ferris Beueller, Pretty in Pink, Breakfast Club, and Home Alone, right?
And Planes, Trains, and Automobiles?
(If anyone answers me by posting a link to wikipedia or IMDB I will punch them in the mouth.)

I could look on imdb, but I'll refrain. :)

John Hughes did all of the movies mentioned above.
John Waters did Pink Flamingos, Female Trouble, Cecil B. DeMented, Hairspray (the original), A Dirty Shame, Pecker, Serial Mom, Polyester, Cry-Baby, and Desperate Living. (That is not IMDB. It's off the top of my head, because I think he's awesome.)

Hee. John Waters scares me a little, too. I'm afraid he'd pinch my butt. Not that he'd particularly like me, but he looks like he'd pinch a lot of butts.

I live in Nebraska, but I'm not from here.
I'm not from here
I just live here
grew up somewhere far away
come here thinking I'd never stay long
I'd be going back soon someday
It's been a few years
since I got here
seen 'em come and I've seen 'em go
crowds assemble, they hang out awhile
then they melt away like an early snow
Onto some bright future somewhere
down the road to points unknown
sending postcards when they get there
wherever it is they think they're goin'
I'm not from here
I just live here
can't see that it matters much
I read the papers and I watch the nightly news
who's to say I'm out of touch
Nobody's from here
most of us just live here
locals long since moved away
sold the played-out farms for parking lots
went off looking for a better way
Onto some bright future somewhere
better times on down the road
wonder if they ever got there
wherever it was they thought they'd go
Hit my home town
a couple years back
hard to say just how it felt
but it looked like so many towns I might've been through
on my way to somewhere else
I'm not from here
but people tell me
it's not like it used to be
they say I should have been here
back about ten years
before it got ruined by folks like me
We can't help it
we just keep moving
it's been that way since long ago
since the stone age, chasing the great herds
we mostly go where we have to go
Onto some bright future somewhere
down the road to points unknown
sending post cards when we get there
wherever it is we think we'll go

I'm in my office at work, bored to death.
It is my only option at the moment. I would rather be in Tahiti.
There is a WalMart about a half mile from where I work, I don't go there. There are 5 Walgreens Pharmacy's within a five mile area of here, three of them within a square mile of each other. But surprisingly, I haven't seen any of the small locally owned pharmacies go under. I guess there are enough people on pharmaceuticals to keep everyone going.

I don't shop there, but my wife will occasionally go in for some of the mint chocolate chip ice cream she loves.

But I am originally from Texas.
Also, the nearest Wal-Mart is hours away, but we do have K-mart and Target.
I am Really glad we have a Target. There is something about that store that I just love. Now they have Dr.Pepper slurpees, which is a good reason that Target is awesome.

Sometimes I think all these big corporations save a very few (e.g. Costco) suck. But I definitely prefer Target to Wal-Mart.

My closest (and only Target) is about probably 7 or 8 miles.

Suburban Detroit. Nearest Wal-Mart is three to four miles away and now they're building one even closer.
Have no idea why. That makes two in my little burg, population less than 100,000.

I don't shop at Wal-Mart either, but I think that the point of my question was just that nearly everyone who responded said that there is one within 4 miles or less of their home. I find that sad and freaky.
Target is soothing.
Why don't more people shop at K-Mart? they have the same crap as Wal-Mart and they're located in the center of town - at least my town.

I'd rather spend a little more money for something that's going to last longer, and make me happier. Like my toaster, which may have been stupidly expensive, but makes me happy just to look at, and will never, ever break. :)

Not if you only look at it it won't!

:) I like to spend a little more to purchase things of quality rather than have purchase things that don't last. I love my toaster too. I have had it for over 12 years. It still works perfectly. It is a lovely pale green.....
Ah, sorry I got a bit carried away.

Hmm. That's an awfully specific circumstance you've come up with there, Mary...

That's too bad, Bun! I feel sad now. :(
Phil lives in the corner of Utah, near Vegas.
Larry, Kevin, Jim and RA are in the middle, in the cold in winter, hot in summer states.
Heidi is in Arkinsas - AK? AZ?
Misha and Jackie and Sher are in the Pacific NW.
Gretchen and Sarah Pi are out east, in those small, squiggily states.
Where are you?
