Peril's Gate by Janny Wurts is the sixth novel in the series 'War of Light & Shadow'. Post here if you plan to read this novel, are reading or have already read.

Tipping point!

John | 139 comments Well, I've managed to fall about a month behind now. The long and short of it is that I started working outside the home again (a mixed blessing if ever there was one!) and have been working close to 60 hours a week (I'm salaried, so that's an approximation--it feels closer to 160). I have picked Peril's Gate up, but most days I can count on one hand the number of pages I've snatched away the time to read.

Maybe I should go back to being a stay-at-home dad? I got more reading done, had more time with my baby, got more housework done: why did I want a job again?

But anyway, I am reading, will catch up, and then will have to catch up on the discussion too (probably about the time everyone I started with is discussing the end of the series!).

Sandra (sleo) | 1059 comments Well, John, you've been missed! And I'm interested to see your take on this one. It's chock full of things to discuss.

John - the nice thing about books - they wait for you.

Yes, but I'm a naturally polite person--especially to books--and I hate to keep them waiting. :)

By all means, then - succumb! :)

John | 139 comments I'm up to the part where Elaira is shown by Davien what's happening at Daon Ramon and I thought "okay, I'm about 3/7ths of the way through, maybe I can start to explore the discussion threads without everything I read being a spoiler.

Uh, nope. :)

Oh, sorry, John. Maybe you could start a new thread? I'll be glad to discuss with you. Glad you're finding time to read again.

message 16: by John (new)

John | 139 comments Done, even before your suggestion! :)

I don't know how much discussion it will open, though. Anyone else care to talk more about Dakar?

message 17: by Janny (new)

Janny (jannywurts) | 414 comments This is the 'tipping point' book for the entire series, actually - there are more unveilings to come that will move all the markers, but the convergencies (and the way the unveilings happen) draw things together strongly from hereforward.

So - YES DO BE CAREFUL OF SPOILERS. Assumptions that you are 'far enough along to know it all' would definitely bite you bigtime.

Feel quite free to start Any thread limiting the read to your current page. There are more reading than posting, perhaps exactly due to the notion there is no appropriate thread going.

Just don't forget the spoiler marker. ;)

Maybe we should do chapter sets like you're doing in BR? Although in this group we read the book the month before we discuss it, assuming all will have read it by then. However, it seems that many are reading at their own pace, so what do you think of chapter sets?

John | 139 comments Well, I'm almost two months late to the party, but I'm here! Just finished today, though I'm sure it will take me a while to read through the various threads here, much less to organize my thoughts and add to the discussion--I hope some of you are still around.

John, no worries, we are all still around! Fire away when ready.

Sandra (sleo) | 1059 comments I'm still here, John! Lonely and waiting for others to join us. So glad you're here. Can't wait for your thoughts. This is such a powerful book. Did you happen to see Stefan's review at FantasyLiterature.com?

Alissa Just started!! Grand Conspiracy's ending called for no less than a direct start of Peril's Gate (which, of course, I had at the ready).
