I'll try to answer questions without creating spoilers!

Erma Odrach Hi Charlie,

I've read a few things here and there about the Blood Countess and it's pretty amazing, but in a very gory sort of way. What made you choose to write about her? Do you find that much of the information out there has turned to legend?

Culturally, I've always been fascinated by how women are typically perceived in society (whether modern or past) when it comes to issues of violence and crimes. I picked up a book about the 'Most Evil Women In History.' I came across Elizabeth Bathory and decided to find out more about her. Unlike the other women in the book, her history bordered on unconfirmed legend. This was all I needed to get my brain working. After reading about the region, the wars, her family, I got to thinking about what classifies a person (during this time/region) as 'evil,' and is it possible to create circumstances that make a known murderer sympathetic? I had gender on my side, now all I needed was a loose chronicling of events. It's just my nature to always ask, 'why would a person do it?' If put in a similar situation, what would I do? Considering her position of power and personality, I drew a big 'What if!'
I love stories that tug at morality. This is probably why 'Dexter' is my favorite TV series. I'm rooting for the serial killer! Incredible!

I have not read the books. I bought box sets and watched them until I couldn't stay awake any longer. I just love the entire concept. I bet the books are even better. Should I buy them too?

DJ (djdivaofjava) I've only got the first three so far Bu I would certainly say that it ould be worth trying them.I know sometimes that pople do no like to go back and forth between books and TV series.
