Kate Daniels (Iron Convenant) / Ilona Andrews

I loved it!!
Ilona Andrews posted on her site @ 5/13/10: "MAGIC BLEEDS is one of those pivotal books that can either make or break the series. Vital changes take place. Kate’s heritage comes to light and the effect on her life is catastrophic. She loses everything. It’s probably one of the grimmer books we’ve written, but it’s also the most relationship heavy.
The Kate series moves forward with each book. The relationship between Kate and Curran has to go somewhere as well. This is not a minor plot point that could’ve been negotiated in a couple of pages and shoved aside. This was a major issue that had to have its own book. Kate’s ancestry bites her in the ass, Curran’s history emerges, and they have to pick fight or flight. Eventually all prospective couples reach the point of no return: that spot in the relationship when they have to decide if they are together or not. This is the book where Kate and Curran decide. They both know that whichever way they go, there is no turning back.
The enemy Kate faces in this book is the most powerful person we’ve written to date. When she shattered the blood sword, she knew there would be consequences. Well, the consequences arrive and smash her life to pieces.
But no matter how grim, MAGIC BLEEDS ends with hope. It ties the plot threads raised in the previous three books, clears the field, and weaves new ones, so the characters can move on to new and exciting adventures."
I think this book made the series (definitely didn't break it, IMHO)! A definite must-read for all UF fans!

And as I was reading the book I kept hearing Ilona in my head from seeing her at the signing at Powell's here in Oregon... ;)

Just haaaad to throw that out there again, didn't cha?! LOL! J/K! I'm still green with envy! Think she'll come to Japan? hehe

Want to adopt me? I'm completely self-sufficient. ;P

And, just so ya know, I've now gone from green with envy (calmly thinking, "Ah, that's nice she got to meet & chat with such an awesome author") to glowing green with full blown wicked jealousy ("WHAT?! How many more awesome authors is she gonna get to meet? Why don't my fav authors come to the places I live?!)! hehe >:)

Stolen from Ilona:
Curran looked at me. He looked at the vampire behind me. The bloodsucker had shriveled to a dry grey husk.
There we go, all of my fucked up blood on display. It’s one thing to know you’re mated to Roland’s daughter. It’s another to see it in action.
Curran looked back at me. “How’s that knee?”
“Peachy.”
“Right. Let’s get some ice on that. Can you walk, or should I carry you?”
I glowered at him. “I could still kick your ass even with one leg.”
“You would have to catch me first, gimp.” He started toward the restaurant.
I followed him. “I’m not a gimp.”
“I’m sorry, how insensitive of me. Physically challenged.”
“Why did I even mate with you?”
He flashed a grin at me. “Chemistry, baby.”
Argh. “Don’t talk to me.”
He pulled me to him.
I stopped. “What about the other navigator?”
“He’s fine,” Curran said. “Out like a light. I heard his heartbeat.”
He’d fainted. Just like Ghastek. Defective vampire, my ass. I turned. “We should get him out of the street.”
“No. It’s enough I had to save his ass from his own vampire. I’m not a street cleaner.”
“What if someone runs over him?”
“The world will be a better place.”
“Curran!”
“No,” he said. “Knee, ice, and then, if I’m feeling extra benevolent, I’ll bring you the phone so you can call his daddy at the Casino and let him know to come and collect him.”

Haha, the minute - literally - that I finished Magic Bleeds, I pulled Magic Bites off the shelf and re-read the whole series. I think I was just so in awe of how well-done Bleeds was, I felt the need to re-immerse in the whole thing. :-)

I've noticed that, DarkHeart. I'm bummed I missed the posting of Chapters 1 & 2. Did you get those before they were taken down?
I try to remember to pop over there every coupl'a weeks to see what Gordon's posted. :)
"Kate Daniels" is a series I would definitely re-read. I'm not a big re-reader, so much new stuff to read, but that one is I would enjoy.

I know it´s strange and I know that you can re-read it, but there´s just nothing like the first time!

"This isn't a short story or a novella. This is a collection of scenes written by Gordon Andrews as a companion to our Kate Daniels series of books. These scenes illustrate the point of view of Curran, the Beast Lord of Atlanta and are provided in gratitude to our readers for all of their support. This collection isn't meant to stand on its own as an independent work of fiction."

Q: How many books does each series have?
A: We are contracted for seven novels in Kate Daniels series.
YAY! So, three more "Kate Daniels" books to come. :D

"I'm killing one of my favorite characters and I don't like it."
Eek!

I don't know why, but I fear for either Andrea or Raphael....

"I'm killing one of my favorite characters and I don't like it."
Eek!"
Oh no. :( I think it makes sense to balance the reality of the supe world. And Ilona doesn't kill off characters often (unlike Charlaine Harris who I think kills off way too many characters). But wow. I hope it isn't Jim -- I really like Jim.
Kay wrote: "I thought of Derek as soon as I read it too Amy, but haven't they already put us through enough heartache with him in Magic Strikes?!
I don't know why, but I fear for either Andrea or Raphael...."
No doubt. Derek has gone through enouh.

I am really hoping it will only be a minor character if someone has to die, though I can't think of a single one I wouldn't be upset about.

..."
I did the same thing! Couldn't help my self :)

Steph, I'm with you, holding tight to that straw. Favorite character doesn't have to be a major one. Right??

And according to the bookshop, my copy of Dark and Stormy Knights is in the mail! I can't wait. And isn't the title a great pun? Love puns.

Still, I'm willing to sacrifice Ghastek to keep Jim and Dali :)

Here's a direct link to the snippet from Magic Slays.
These don't tend to stay up long, so read it while you can.

"Our short story, A Questionable Client, is set in Kate Daniels world, before the events of the series take place. Kate Daniels is tired. She put in a long shift at the Mercenary Guild, she has blood on her shoes and she wants to go home. Unfortunately, a merc’s job is never done and instead of a well deserved rest, she has to bodyguard a VIP client, a man named Saiman. Kate has seen many strange magic beings in her time with the Mercenary Guild, but she has never met one like this."
