Hi, Tracy, so glad to meet you. I am new to this group and hoping to find my way around soon. I am a resident author and I welcome you to meet me and check out my books when I get it all figured out (LOL)!

Jessica Brockmole | 9 comments I introduced myself on the Resident Authors thread and didn't realize there was an introduction thread here!

I'm Jessica and I love both history and, well, love, so look for books that have plenty of both! Although I do like historical novels of all types and I do like historical romances, my favorites are those books that straddle the genres. I enjoy seeking out books with unusual settings or eras and really think the challenges you have here in this group sound like fun. I look forward to following the discussions here!

message 303: by Mary (new)

Mary (marycastillo) Historical romance is my go-to genre. My favorite authors are Elizabeth Hoyt, Courtney Milan, Deanna Raybourn and Tasha Alexander. I miss historicals by Lisa Kleypas!

Donna Thorland | 7 comments Hi!

I'm a huge Dorothy Dunnett fan and always looking for books that blend history with a love story. Lately I've been reading a lot of old school swashbucklers from Sabatini, Rafael and Jeffrey Farnol. I love discovering new-to-me author's backlists in ebook.

Hi everyone! I joined about a week ago, but I didn't see there was a place to make an introduction!

My favorite thing about historical romance is the attention to detail and the fantasy that comes in losing yourself in another era. I'm a sucker for a good Regency, but I love stories that take place in unusual eras, like the 1920s.

Right now I'm reading Outlander, as it's basically required HR reading and I've never got around to it before. Love it so far!

Shelley | 22 comments Hi, I've been active here for awhile, but just wanted to mention that my 'address' has changed. I actually think my work is about love, also, although it might not seem "romantic" to some. I'm not sure I know what the word means....

Victoria Wilcox (goodreadscomdocsladie) | 1 comments Hello!

My name is Victoria Wilcox, historian, museum founder, and author of historical fiction with romantic elements. I love a good love story! I moved to Georgia as a young bride and fell in love with stories of the Old South and Native America -- so intriqued by the class of cultures that brings people together. Always on the lookout for a good read and eager to hear the recommendations of other readers here! I'll save the self-promotion for the author section. Looking forward to meeting other readers!

Best,
Victoria

Pamela (pamela1740) | 1 comments Lovely group! Have been reading books that blend romance and history since discovering YA historical fiction as a tween (anyone remember the awesome novels of Patricia Beatty?), and then burning through all of Jean Plaidy, Norah Lofts, Anya Seton, and Mary Renault - and up through Sharon Kay Penman and Sara Donati. I also read a lot of romance, mainly historicals but also some time travel or other paranormal. I finally started cataloging my reading, along with a book blog, and discovered this group in the process. Would love to recommend a recent read that was wonderful history and intensely romantic - is there a specific section for recommendations?

Hi Pamela,
Anyone may nominate a book. Please list it under "Nominated RHL Titles." We are particularly looking for titles that fit our current reading challenge.

Beth Turza | 2 comments Hi. I am Beth and though I have been a member for quite some time, I did not know there was an intro area until tonight. I have always loved to read, and am an active member in the Historical Novel Society. Although I really enjoy Historic fiction from ancient Egypt to WWII, the Regency and Elizabethan eras are favorites. I also have been known to read mystery books and enjoyed almost every book I have picked up by Michael Crichton. Getting lost in a book and in time are favorite pastimes for me.

Carol Dobson | 13 comments Hi everyone. I'm a reader/author and live in Devon, England. I have written Storks in a Blue Sky, which is a historical romance set in Alsace and North Devon, and which won the 2009 David St John Thomas Fiction Award.
My favourite author is Daphne du Maurier.

message 320: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa Couchman | 1 comments Hi everyone, I'm very pleased to join the group and have always enjoyed reading historical and romantic historical fiction. I think it's a great idea to have a group that bridges the gap between historical and romantic - so many books are a combination of both.
My own novel, The House at Zaronza, published in July this year is set in early 20th-century Corsica and at the Western Front in World War I. As such, it has a strong historical base, for which I had to do a lot of research, but is also a romantic novel.
I look forward to posting up my recommendations and to seeing those from other members.

Heather McCorkle (heathermccorkle) | 3 comments HI all,

I'm so glad I found this group as I'm looking forward to connecting with others who love to read historical romance. I've just started to dip my feet into reading the genre and I LOVE it!

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) Hello everyone, my name is Margaret. I'm 25, married, and work as a librarian. I love reading, and adore most genres. When I reach for a romance, it's usually for a Historical. I like learning as I read!

message 323: by C.G. (new)

C.G. | 2 comments Hi I’m Christine, I love history. Paranormal / fantasy / romantic history – as long as it feels real, real to the era, real in character attitudes. I am not a quick reader, and tend to allocate blocks of spare time to read, like on the plane making my annual trip to West Australia… I’m not going to admit how long this piecemeal approach took me to read Ivanhoe.
I spent the better part of ten years researching the Boudican Rebellion for my novel Celtic Summer – researching from the other side of the world takes time. Thank God there is an internet! It was fun thought. Celtic Summer
If it's ok to say - Celtic Summer is a sorta romantic, historical, reincarnation, girl and her horse, but nothing like the usual girl and her horse story, novel.

message 324: by Faith (new)

Faith (faithjones) | 1 comments Hi, I've loved romantic historical fiction since I picked up Julie Garwood's Rose series. That was ten years ago I've been in love since.
