Tracy (tracy_falbe) | 21 comments On Monday, I watched Amadeus on bluray. Although the packaging did not mention extra scenes, it certainly had many that I had never watched before. Amadeus is a movie I love, and I have watched it many times. I wore out my VHS version of it years ago.

Of note, in this extended version was a scene between Constanza and Salieri. Anyone who has watched the movie in original form may recall the scene in which Constanza takes samples of Mozart's work to Salieri to review, which must be done for Mozart to be considered for a royal appointment. Mozart had refused to submit samples because of his immense pride in his talent. Anyway, in the extended bluray version, the scene continues, and Salieri makes it crystal clear to Constanza that he expects her to come back later and perform sexual favors to help her husband get the appointment.

Then is a long scene with just Salieri praying. He asks God to grant him inspiration to write a beautiful piece of music. If that happens, he will get Mozart the appointment and not dishonor Constanza. He prays and prays, but of course God does not answer his prayer. Constanza shows up and forthrightly disrobes (nice nude scene here, fellas, with Viennese lingerie) Salieri, however, spurns her because he is so upset that God would leave him to sin instead of granting inspiration.

Another scene that was new to me was when Mozart actually goes to a wealthy household to seek a job as a music tutor. The family is beastly. The father is a maniac for his many hounds that bay and howl while Mozart is playing music. It's an abominable episode that would offend anyone of even modest musical talent. Mozart of course walks out on the job interview.

I recommend watching this bluray version of Amadeus. As someone who considers this one of her all-time favorite movies, I was entranced and delighted with the extra scenes. I really liked seeing the extra insight into Constanza's plight.

Phillip | 10980 comments wow - those scenes make the extended version sound interesting, but clearly they were taking greater and greater liberties with salieri - as much as i love this film, i'm kind of saddened that most people walk away thinking there is truth to this portrayal of salieri...who barely knew mozart in reality.

Geoffrey | 209 comments I believe most people are aware that they are watching a fictionalized account, but perhaps there would be some reason for a disclaimer at the end of the flic, reporting on its inaccuracies.

Manuel | 469 comments Thank you Tracy,
I love this movie, but I was unaware of the extended scenes. Now I am very curious to see it.

I suppose they were cut out when the movie got too long. They sound as if they showed more insight into Costanza's character than Salieri's. Salieri's inner torment and jealousy having already been established or rather demonstrated without these scenes.

Very very interesting.

Tracy (tracy_falbe) | 21 comments You're welcome. I thought people might like to know about these extra scenes. I get most movies through Neflix. The videos don't come with much packaging, so it said nothing about the extra scenes. But while I was watching it, I kept thinking to myself, "Have I ever seen this part?" or "Why don't I remember this?" I had watched Amadeus so many times that I was sure I was seeing new scenes.
