I think they were a trilogy,a boy named red.He lived with his mother and I think his sister and it is set in the futur when the city (citadel) and the country were seperated.I cant remember if he is from the country and goes into the city or the other way round but I think the first way round.There is also something about a radio channel.Thats all I can remember!!

The Guardians by John Christopher? The boy is named Rob, but separation of Conurbs and County is mentioned.
