message 1: by Diana (new)

Diana I didn't see a topic for Rick Riordan's new book, so I created one.

Has anybody read it yet?

message 2: by Jordan (new)

Jordan (flyinglogicmonkey) | 2426 comments No, but I'd like to. PJO was excellent. (Haven't quite finished the series yet)

message 3: by Diana (new)

Diana Yes, it came out may 4th. I'm reading it right now and I really like.

message 4: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments I'm gonna read it soon. My friend has it, and after she finishes it and I clear my next-in-line to-read books self, I'll move on to it. hahaa.

message 5: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments She's been saying that it's amazing.

message 6: by Diana (new)

Diana It is

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

i just looked at it today i might read it.

message 8: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) Has Rick said how many there will be?
I seriously think that when this series is over, he should do NORSE mythology! That way he'd have series for greek, egyptian, and norse! :D

message 9: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments He hasn't mentioned anything- to my knowledge. I could be wrong and have overlooked it while reading his blog.

Amelia, will you read it?

message 11: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) I don't know yet. I'm not really keen on Egyptian mythology, and I don't want to compare it to Percy Jackson, so we'll see what happens next with the series!

message 12: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments *shrugs* Haley (Rick's son) said it was his dad's best book yet.

message 13: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) lol okay... that doesn't really mean anything to me. :)
I'm skeptical about it being as good as PJ, and it seems like a risk authors take when they start a new series. I won't be reading it any time soon, but then again I didn't start the PJ series until after BOTL was published.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

i just started reading the red pyramid and i really like it.

message 15: by Rebekah Faith (last edited May 29, 2010 05:56AM) (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Amelia: I figured, but it was worth a shot. And I didn't start reading PJO until about a week before The Last Olympian was scheduled to come out- not on purpose. hahaa. It was just when I found the books at the library.

Okay, I started this book yesterday and am currently on page 158. Rick's sorta made a reference to PJO: (The main character's, Carter and Sadie are in NYC with Amos [not gonna tell you anything about him:]) Amos says: "Manhattan has other problems. Other gods. It's best we stay separate." (For all of you curious to where I found it, it's on page 52).
(Just thought it was rather interesting since this book relied on Egyptian Mythology instead of Greek).

message 16: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) That's cute! I love it when authors reference their other works!

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

i am on page 9 lolz

message 18: by Suzannek (new)

Suzannek | 1 comments The book is amasing. I knew little about Egyptian myth. I love Sadie and the dual narration. It does feel like PJO sometimes while reading, but is full of great new adventures. I can't wait for #2 which is due out next May 2011.
Hoth talks about Hermes again another reference back to PJO.

I know, I was like, wait, is that a PJO reference? and it was. hahaa

Yeah, I read that other reference yesterday, Suzannek, but I wasn't on to talk about it. :)

It would be AWESOME if he wrote a series based on Norse Mythology!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kendall Anne (dance4life) | 785 comments It looks interesting. I will read it soon maybe.

message 23: by Arienne (new)

Arienne Souza | 17 comments You should it's really awsome! oh ya and just to let you know i'm the friend of rae's that loaned her the book and she finished before me. that's just sad.:)

message 24: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments :) it is. lolz. Arienne gave me the book (per my request) 'cause I had nothing else to read and she was taking a break form it- and I finished the book in less than a week, I believe.

message 25: by Tyler (new)

Tyler (DarkHaxxor) | 1 comments This book is great! I read it in one day and I'm only 12.

message 26: by Ayunda (last edited Jun 22, 2010 06:41AM) (new)

Amelia and Rae: the reference is like Stephen King

The main character of Misery is an author named Paul Sheldon.

In King's book Rose Madder There is a scene when the main character is in the bookshop, and she buys a book called "MISERY'S CHILD by PAUL SHELDON"

See the link?
Yeah, i thought it was cool :)

message 28: by Kendall Anne (new)

Kendall Anne (dance4life) | 785 comments I got it for my birthday and I hope to read it soon!!!!

message 29: by Diana (new)

message 30: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Yeps! Rick recently posted on his blog that he was gonna work hard to get a Kane Chronicals book out every spring and a 'CHB' book (he hasn't decided what to call the series yet) out every fall.

I think the series name is The Heroes of Olympus or something...

message 32: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments Ok, I notice that most of the comments towards Red Pyramid are good. And I really don't anything bad to say about it, but I don't have much good to sat about it either.

Amelia said something about not wanting to compare it to Percy Jackson. Well, I wish I'd read the Red Pyramid first, because that was all I could do. I did quite enjoy the PJO references, but I didn't like this one book nearly as much as I liked any one of the PJO books, let alone all of them combined.

It prolly doesn't help that I have very little interest in Egyptian mythology in comparison to my interest in Greek mythology.

I am just giving my take on the book, even though it seems that most of you loved it.

message 34: by Ayunda (new)

Ayunda (ayundabs) I haven't read the Red Pyramid. I'm not too interested. But I loved the PJO series, and maybe someday I'll read this series, to see how great it is :D
