I think I just won my 6th book.....It took me 2 years to win.....but I finish and post a review and win another within a week or so....
Congrats Angie! First Reads is great. Like KrIsTiE fAyE said, if you want to keep winning, make sure you read it right away, and post a written review on it when you are finished. Also make a First Reads shelf on your bookshelf here on Goodreads to list it on. I recently won my 54th First Read.
Elena, I won The Passage too, and LOVED it. Have you read it yet? What did you think?

I have won 3, which isn't bad considering I've only been on goodreads for less than 4 months. I've read that a lot of things can help you win the books, such as being active on the site (posting in the forums, rating and reviewing books, being a librarian and making edits) and also making the first-reads shelf, reading the books you win and reviewing them in a timely manner. I'm not sure if this is on purpose, but once I have won a book, I have not won another one until I have read and reviewed the previous one.
Hmmm... thanks for the advice! I just started entering for them 2 weeks ago!! So, you can understand my surprise when I found out I already won one. I am very active on this site so maybe that contributed. But I didn't know about the FirstReads shelf. I'll definitely do that!! Thanks!

I think I won the book because I read and reviewed one of the other author's books, Mary and O'Neil.
I love First Reads. I think I've won 7 or so. I'm currently waiting for Ten Things I Love About You by Julia Quinn to arrive. I was so excited to win it, I read another by her and really liked it.
First Reads is what they call the Goodread Book Giveaways. If you click on explore up at the top of any goodreads page, then click the giveaways tab, then click on giveaways, it will take you to this page:
http://www.goodreads.com/giveaway
where you can enter to win a ton of new release books. Nothing finer than winning free books. :o)

Same here. I actually have one on my shelf that I need to read. I just haven't been in the mood for it at all! I've really enjoyed the couple that I've received that I have finished reading though!
It depends on who is sending it and how they ship stuff. It's usually a publishing house and therefore can take a while for them to get it sent out with all of their other crap and their scheduled pickups or whatever. Fastest I got one was a couple of days, slowest was about two weeks.
My first read book took 4 weeks to arrived. I have had it for a month already. I better read and review it if I want to win another one...
Sadly none yet, but I only just discovered the joy that is goodreads, so Im sure some day I will win one...maybe =)
I've won one book so far , Second Time Around . I really enjoyed it ! Hopefully I will win again soon !
I've won four so far but have been on here for a couple of years now so doesn't really seem like that many - still free books, I'm happy!

This is from a enter-to-win page for one of the books listed:terms & conditions•
If more people are interested in a book than there are copies available, we will pick the winners at our discretion. The factors that go into our algorithm are: randomness, site activity, genre of books on your shelves, current phase of the moon, and more. Only one entry is allowed per household.
•The publisher or author, not Goodreads, is responsible for shipment of books to winners. To list a book, the publisher or author has already agreed never to send you anything except the book in question.
•You are not required to review the book if you win a copy. However, we encourage you do to so, as it's the reason the publishers are giving us free books in the first place. People who review the books are also more likely to win more advance copies in the future.
•By accepting an advance copy and posting a review, you grant Goodreads and the publisher an irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive, fully paid, worldwide license to use, copy, perform, display, and distribute your review.
•In compliance with FTC guidelines, please disclose in your review that you received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads.
Winners might be picked randomly depending on the book...or rather, depending on the publisher or person giving away the book.
I won 2 after finishing 1. :) Good numbers in my opinion. I just won No Way Out and The Left Hand of God. I can't wait to get them.
I just recieved my first win the other day. Moonshine: A Novel I bumped it up my to read list right away. Im just mad that my mailman damaged my copy and it is signed =(

The second book I won a few days ago is Wanyama/Animals: Learning Swahili is Fun!! I think me n my lil boy are going to really enjoy that one!
Recently won, read, and reviewed Night Road by Kristin Hannah. And I just got an email this morning that I won Madame Tussaud: A Novel of the French Revolution by Michelle Moran. Yay!
Oh you lucky girl! Can't wait to hear your thoughts on Madame Tussaud - Moran is one of my favorite authors!
I woke up yesterday morning, and before we all embarked on a long drive to pick up a new member to our family from a Basset Hound rescue, I took a quick look at my emails and found out I won Madame Tussaud: A Novel of the French Revolution, what a nice start to a wonderful day!
I haven't won a book since 2009 =0( I've been missing winning books! I keep trying, but no luck lately
