Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 2400 comments I just changed a few calendars to NOT A BOOK. I added/changed to NOT A BOOK in front of the title, for author (I know some do only this field) and in front of type of edition.

Anyway, just went into recent librarian edits and, even though I made all the changes before I clicked the save changes button, each edited calendar shows as 2 edits.

I really think GR members could miss the NOT A BOOK in the author field so I do prefer adding it to the title too.

But, what do other librarians think? (I don't want to "take credit" for more edits than I've actually made. And I don't know why the double edit per item shows.

EDIT: Ditto with NOT A BOOK for a poster.

This doesn't happen when I combine or separate books, just when I do the NOT A BOOK type edits, and it doesn't seem to happen to other librarians.

So, think I will stop doing these for now...

EDIT AGAIN: And of course now I am coming across many examples of NOT A BOOKs. Ah well.

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments I don't think I've ever checked how many edits something count as -- I'll start keeping an eye on that!

At a guess, perhaps changing the author is counted separately from the other edits? It would seem to be a more substantial change than the others....

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 2400 comments Yes, you might be right Cait, but I'd have thought that nothing would "count" until the save changes button was pressed. And, you/others can check, but I didn't notice double listings for anybody else's edits so I'm thinking that it's my mistake. Or maybe not a mistake, but something that happens since I change 3 fields vs. 1 field.

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments Hmm. I just found a not-a-book and did my usual to it, which is to change the author to NOT A BOOK and add NOT A BOOK to the front of the title, but not to change anything in other fields, and it's showing two edits....

It certainly looks like it's processing the author change first and then the title change; for the ones you did, what did the change log look like?

edit: Okay, I did another one a little extravagantly, and it definitely looks like the author change is separate from the others.

Still, I think it's pretty important to change the author and get it away from the author's real books!

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 2400 comments Cait, I'm glad to know that it's not something I did wrong. Thank you so much for checking that out. And I very much agree with you about changing the author. Also, while some librarians change only the author, I believe it's crucial to also put NOT A BOOK in front of the title. I think that it's the only way to make it most likely that nobody will mistake those items for books.

I guess that I'll go back to editing these when I find them.

When I have time, I edit both; when I'm in a hurry (or doing a cluster with one not-real author) I just change the author. As far as "credit" for edits, I need all the credit I can get! vitalinew and Michael are leaving me in the dust! ;)

But seriously, however many edits something counts as, it counts as. I'm certainly not going to worry about it. (Much. Winking)
