Which means I better get started reading the book :)

Did you come up with any Questions while you were reading?

message 58: by [deleted user] (new)

Discussion Day!!

Chapters 1-2
1. What do you think of the beginning of the book? Is the plot interesting and pulling you in at all?

2. Can you relate with the main character, Zoey?

3. What do you think of K? Is she the friend that you would want?

4. Do you think Heath was genuine when he told Zoey that he missed her and loved her?

Next Assignment:
Read Chapters 3-6 Pages 21-50

message 59: by Andrew (new)

Andrew hi i am new what are we talking about

message 60: by [deleted user] (new)

1. The book is different and holding my interest so far.

2. I can relate in a few ways. My brother was the good one. The family at home was not always good because of that. I always had one best friend but I'd like to think that she would of acted differently.

3. K, wow, a bit selfish and shallow. Her true colors are showing and I wonder how their friendship is going to last.

4. I'm not sure. He had a beer in his hand. But so far he is the only person not to shrink away from her. I think he was as genuine as a buzzed HS football player could be.

message 61: by [deleted user] (new)

Andrew, this is for the buddy reads. We are trying to read Marked. Hopefully, we get some more discussion.

message 62: by Kate (last edited May 24, 2010 05:37PM) (new)

Kate (katemreads) | 225 comments I just got back from babysiting and then a conformation orientation thing, not at all excited for it. But I did find about 10 ways to get out of it so we'll see what happens. I couldn't read the chapters last night but I'll try to read them soon and post something. By the way, when are we discussing chapters 3-6?

message 63: by Kate (new)

Kate (katemreads) | 225 comments What the heck, I'll try to answer from memory.
1. I think the plot really drew me in. It was a lot different from a lot of other vampire books. I still think, at the time, that I was waiting for it to pick up a bit but that's usually with all books, for me anyway.

2. I wish, I really loved Zoey. She's really strong and independent. I think there are some things that I can definitly relate too, family sutff being one, but I'll have to read the chapters and get back on that.

3. I think K is kind of that friend that "popular" people have but may not necessarily want or relate to. She's one of those people that you hang out for status or you've been frineds since forever. Kind of like Caroline from vampire diaries. She was very superficial and she's not a friend I think I'd want.

4. Vaugly remeber this part but I'll have to read it to fully answer the question.

message 64: by [deleted user] (new)

Nope, these are questions from Chapters 1-2.

Tomorrow I will post questions for 3-6.

If you come up with questions feel free to post.

message 65: by [deleted user] (new)

Pretty good memory Kate!!

I'll look forward to your answers.

That is ok. I will forgive you this one time!

Ok, perhaps I'll give you a pass for later too :)

message 68: by [deleted user] (last edited May 25, 2010 06:35AM) (new)

Here are some questions for Chapters 3-6

1. I just have to say what a Jerk Stepdad! How would you feel if that was your mom?

2. A prayer circle - Yikes! Would you have stayed or ran like Zoey? Why?

3. Grandma Redbird seems to be very cool. Describe your grandmother.

4. Zoey's Mark - Do you think it was really filled in while she was having a wild dream? Was it a dream? How would you feel if some Goddess appeared in front of you? Lucky, scared, shy?

Next assignment:
Read Chapters 7-9 Pages 51-88

message 69: by [deleted user] (new)

1. Like I said, Jerk! I would feel a bit said for my mom if this robot emotion thing happened. However, as an adult don't you think she would of seen the signs and left. Then again that security and big fancy house would make many people stay even if they were ignoring their children. That is just too bad. I wish I could slap the mom and throw some cold water on her!! Wake-Up!

2. I def would of ran. I know she was packing some things up but I wonder if she took a half packed bag. It wasn't very clear. But I would of stuffed that bag because I would know I was never going back!!

3. My grandma is cool. She is may babysitter when I need her. She picks on me and I pick on her back. She can tell me stories about before phone were invented, slightly old she is. LOL! I told her I was pregnant before my mom (if that says anything.) We do a lot of family trips together and I invite her over to eat often. We just started going to craft night together on Wes.

4. The book seems to be going down the route where the dream wasn't a dream but real. Zoey met the Goddess! I'd love to meet a Goddess!! Who wouldn't want to meet a kick butt strong female??

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Chapters 1-2
1. The beginning of the book was very appealing to me. It drew me in automatically as I started reading the first paragraph. There was quite a bit of "action" in the first chapter alone. The Casts were really brilliant to start the story like that.

2. I can't really think of any way that I can actually relate to Zoey o a personal level. My parents are still married, and my mom is always on my side no matter what. My dad isn't always blaming me for things that I have no control over either. Also, Zoey feels her closest friend is her Grandma Redbird; I'm close to my grandparents, but not as close as Zoey and G-ma Redbird.

3. Kayla (aka K), in the beginning when she was talking ot Zoey about Heath, was a really good friend. I thought, "Wow, I would love to have someone that cared that much about my relationship to defend him like that. After when Zoey was Chosen, I started to take back what I had said/thought before. She just left Zoey hanging when she needed her BFF the most; to me, that wasn't the right thing to do. Then, she had a look of relief on her face when Z said she could go with her b-friend. That didn't exactly make me like K a lot.

4. If Heath knew that Zoey was disgusted at him because of his drinking habits, then he obviously wasn't too concerned with/about her, because I recall hiim being somewhat drunk or drinking when he told her this? (Correct me if I'm wrong, please.) He might have been telling the truth when he said that he missed and loved Zoey, but I couldn't tell.

message 72: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Chapters 3-6
1. If my mom acted like that when I needed her most, I'm sure I would have done like Zoey and just ran away; I would have tried to get to someone who would actually help me the best they can. For Zoey, this person was her Grandma Redbird.

2. I would have definitely ran away. The last thing that Zoey needed right then was people praying for her and asking God to help her behave better, especially when her being Chosen had nothing to do with her behavior. Running away was a smart choice, at least to me.

3. My grandmother on my mom's side is very caring; her house is cozy and comfortable. She cooks when she feels like she should cook, and because she doesn't cook a lot, she doesn't really have a lot of stuff in her fridge. Yeah I know: pretty weird, huh? She cares about her family members with a passion, and is sometimes poking her nose where it doesn't need to be.
My grandmother on my daddy's side is also sometimes being very nosy. She, as well as my maternal g-ma, cares foe her family members. Her house isn't as clean nor cozy as my other grandmother's, mostly because it's really messy with 4 of her grandkids, her daughter and sometimes son-in-law, her, and her husband all sleeping/living in the same house. I don't very much like going over to their house because it's always really stuffy and crowded.

4. It is very possible that Zoey's Mark was filling in while she was having her dream; it might not have even been a dream. It could have been her having some connection to a real Goddess that really wished to help her. If I was visited, so to speak, by a special Goddess like Zoey was, I would most likely be really scared; I might feel somewhat lucky, and definitely no part of me would be shy. I guess that if I had a near-death experience like that I would just freak out really bad.

Yup, I was happy with all the action as well. It is making the book so easy to read. Although, I'm getting sick of them putting in pop culture in almost every page. (It is going to date the book quickly) Like the Jessica Parker remark and everything that relates to our culture.

That is right... He was drinking. You know what I couldn't tell either. But I kind of am leaning more towards the he did mean it. He sat and talked to her like a normal person instead of running like K and freaking out like the other football players.

message 74: by [deleted user] (new)

Kate wrote: "Chapters 1-2"

I think Zoey is a strong and independent too! But she does have a few babbling in her head that show that she is weak. It lets you like her a bit because she is flawed but she does what is needed.

Zoey doesn't seem all that popular with the girls but she does have the cutest boyfriend. Do you think Everyone considers K to be popular.

I'm looking forward to seeing if K shows up later on the book.

Agreed, a prayer circle is the last thing she needed. I was only something the stepdad needed to exert his control. LAME. I wanted her to run and she did. Good Girl!

I love your answer to about the goddess: I would most likely be really scared; I might feel somewhat lucky, and definitely no part of me would be shy.

I noticed that there was a lot of pop culture as well. They could have toned it down just a little.
True abot Heath. To tell the truth, I probably would've walkeed away if seeing my friendlike that turned into too much for me to handle. Heath was very nive to stay there and try talking to her; he probably really does miss and love Zoey.

LOL; it was very lame.

I was just telling the truth about the whole Goddess thing. That's really how I would probably feel.

You're right about her having flaws which always makes a character more likable. As for the popular part and the K parts, I'll take your word for it as I still havn't read the chapters yet. *whoops* I have my book next to me but I got caught up on some websites. I promise to read it tonight though, maybe I won't be able to post anything but I'll read it and then do the next set of questions.

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) With Elyssa on this one, Kate! Don't try to force yourself to read it if you don't feel like it right that minute. Just take your time getting into the book. Trust me: Once you get far enough into it, you'll most likely read a little more than you're supposed to.

message 83: by [deleted user] (new)

Hay, you aren't supposed to read more! Just kidding.

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Lols, well everyone firgets their responsibilities every once in a while. ;D

message 87: by [deleted user] (new)

Cools. I like this book so far. We will see how it goes. Perhaps once we are done with the Sweet Far thing we should finish this series.

message 88: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Maybe. Depends on how busy we all are I guess. I'm sure that we'll be able to manage though. :)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Questions for Chapter 8:

1. Blow Job Scene - Okay first of all: ewww! (LOL) How do you feel about that scene? Do you think it should have been in the book? Why or why not? How would you have felt if you had been in Zoey's position at that moment?

2. How do you feel about the profanity that is used in the book? Do you think the Casts put too many in it? Why or why not? Do you believe it can properly be called a Young Adult book with all the profanity?

message 90: by Zakiya (last edited May 26, 2010 06:48AM) (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Chapter 8:
1. I, for one, don't really think that scene was very necessary. It might have some significance later on in the story, but as of right now it was very disturbing for me. I'm not sure why it's there, but I really don't like it. If I had been in Zoey's position at that moment, I would have probably either (1) hurled, or (2) turned and ran as far away as possible--then hurled, or (3) both.

2. There is way too much profanity in this book so far for it to properly be a YA book. It's sort of like another "The A-List" to me, with all the cussing they utilize. It is definitely too much for me, but I'm going to do my best to just ignore it and enjoy the rest of the book. :)

message 91: by [deleted user] (new)

Good Job Z. Those were two questions I had as well!

Yes, what are your limits for a young adult book???

message 92: by [deleted user] (new)

Chapter 8 questions from Z!

1. I too was creeped out about the BJ scene. Well, really, I thought this was a young adult novel and it is something I would not expect in a YA book. Am I wrong? Now I've read romance and erotica and there it was expected. Anyway, I don't agree with it being approved for a YA book.

2. Dirty words and cusing usually do not improve the book. Many adult books barely even have cusing in it. Wow, mother daughter wrote this!?! I'm thinking that this mom is not a good role model.

Questions for Chapters 7-9. Pages 51-88.

1. How would you like night classes?

2. What kind of Gift would you like to get?

3. Aphrodite! Really! What name would you choose if you could change your name?

4. We finally meet the room mate Stevie Rae Johnson, how do you feel about this character? Also, do you like the characters that are Stevie Rae's friends and now Zoey's?

Next assignment:
Chapter 10-15 page 89-151
(I've been asked to bump up the page count :)).

message 94: by [deleted user] (new)

Questions chapter 7-9

1. I would love love love night classes. I'm so not a morning person. This last semester I signed up for all classes starting at noon. It was so nice but I admit that I slept through a few classes. I much rather be up tell 4 am like I most often am.

2. Gift.... I think I would like a elment gift or the gift of photographic memory. How about the gift of really fast reading like number 5!!

3. Name change?? I think my name is unquie. I have never run into some with my name and I'm 29. Ann my middle name is plain. That I would change to something like Night. Elyssa Night Hawk. Sounds good to me:)

4. Stevie is unquie and I think we are going to have some fun with this twangy girl. I think the others are fun too. I like Damien the best!

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) ❤ ☠ Elyssa ☠ ❤ wrote: "Yes, what are your limits for a young adult book???"

To me, a YA book can be anything it wants to be, but it shouldn't have explicit scenes (like the BJ scene) and extreme profanity is a def no ("D" and "H" and maybe "A" are fine, but once you start using "S" "F" and "B", you've gone way too far). And about the cussing, if you choose to use the first 3 I mentioned, you shouldn't overexcessively use them or it makes the plot relaly fuzzy because the reader's probably trying to ignore all the bad words.

message 96: by Zakiya (last edited May 26, 2010 11:58AM) (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) ❤ ☠ Elyssa ☠ ❤ wrote: Wow, mother daughter wrote this!?! I'm thinking that this mom is not a good role model.

I was thinking the same thing. Sure, your daughter is probably a mature teen or grown woman by the time she helped you write this series/book, but that doesn't mean that you can go haywire and be a terrible role model at the last minute.. :(

message 97: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Questions for Chapters 7-9:
1. I think I would really enjoy the night classes; it would add a cool twist to going to school I guess. It would also take some used to because our whole sleeping-waking schedule would sort of change up. *Chapter Eleven: "I grabbed my nerdy glasses and peeked at the time. Six thirty p.m., and I was just waking up. Talk about bizarre."

2. If I could get any gift I wanted, I would want to have an alarm Gift. Or if not that maybe a faster-reader Gift. The alarm Gift would come in handy if you were out fighting or whatever; you would know exactly when someone was about to strike and you were in danger. The speed-read Gift would just be cool for someone like me because I would be able to read a little faster than I do now. It could come in handy as well. How, I'm not sure of yet. Lol

3. If I could change my name, I would change it to...November (Novvie for short) Denae. Either that or Nicole Denae.

4. When we were introduced to Stevie Rae, I was a little amused because of her cowgirl addiction, but also relieved because I could tell that Zoey was going to have someone to talk to about almost everything. I think that Zo and SR will get along really good together.

Stevie Rae's friends (who are now Zoey's) are really unique, and they remind me of some of my friends--Erin and Shaunee anyway. Damien seems like a really cool guy to be friends with. It made me really sad, though, when I learned of him not having a roommate. I can't believe--okay, yes, I can believe--that someone would do that. I love his used of giant words that have to be explained. It reminds me of myself ah lot. Erin and Shaunee remind me of two of my really good friends who will be going to a different school next year [ :( ]; they were thinking the same exact thing about a lot of stuff and mostly it would be simultaneously too. All of these characters together will def make a good charrie set up. I'm glad the Casts made these people the way they are! :)
