J-Lynn Van Pelt | 43 comments When reading a new book, the first 50 pages are critical for me. If I'm not hooked or at least intrigued by the big 50, then I am not likely to finish the book.

What were your initial reactions for the first 50 pages? Fascinating or foolish? Why?

Lauren (laza) | 7 comments I just finished the first 50 pages, which were very quick, and I'm definitely hooked. Actually I was hooked from the first page. The voice is very strong and it reminds me of narrator's voice in the Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. The writing is quick and humorous, but not foolish at all--very honest.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) First page for me too. Enjoyed every page of the book.

I am really enjoying this book. It rings true with me. I worked with a girl once whose family came from a reservation so it is a very interesting read. I also like how we are meeting characters from a teenager's standpoint. I like that too. I love his teacher Mr. P. I didn't expect him to get hit in the face with a book! But now he is helping Junior. I also really liked the part about the dog. It is sad that the family can't even afford to take the dog to the vet to be put down but goes to show the poverty on a reservation.
