A Good Man is Hard to Find--For Those Who Have Finished

Please use this thread to talk about the book as a whole after you have finished.

Some general starting questions:

Did you like or dislike the book? Did you like the ending? Favorite characters? Favorite quotes? Did you like the author's style? Were you confused by anything in the book? etc.

I finally finished! I feel like I'm missing an important element of O'Connor's stories because I just don't "get" them. It kind of seems like there should be a 'moral' to the stories...maybe?

"The River" and A Temple of the Holy Ghost" were my least favorite stories and I hated the three boys in "A Circle in the Fire".

I'm a fan of happy endings and these short stories are the complete opposite!

Jen, I feel the same way. I read O'Connor's Wise Blood this semester and the entire time I felt like I was missing something. I finished A Good Man is Hard to Find and the other stories, and while I liked most of them, I feel like I'm just missing something. It might have something to do with her Catholicism -- my professor said that there's a lot of Catholic belief in her writing, and I think it's easy to glaze over, especially if you're not familiar with Catholic theology and belief (and I'm Catholic school educated, and I'm still missing something.)

It's funny that you didn't like them - "The River" and "A Temple of the Holy Ghost" were my favorite two stories :) My least favorite was "The Artificial Nigger."
