Joanie | 103 comments I read this a long long time ago but I loved it. An Alienist was the term used for a psychologist, in the book the alienist (whose name I can't remember) is basically profiling a serial killer who is terrorizing London. Really well done, totally worth checking out.

Joanie | 103 comments So I just realized that the Alienist falls under U.S. books so it couldn't have been happening in London! Guess it was New York-like I said, it's been a long time!

Melanie Loved this book when it came out! The sequel is also very good (Angel of Darkness).

Sherry This is one of my favorite books and I enjoyed the Angel of Darkness just as much.It did have a very english feel about the book but I believe Teddy Roosevelt was to have assembled the group for the purpose of solving this mystery(though that could have been in the second book,it has been a number of years!)

Emily (ohmagichour) Hey all! I love both of these books, and they definitely took place in NYC in the early-1900s. The only thing I didn't like about them is that they were *really* heavy for the subway. That's why I had to read them so quickly. :)

William (acknud) I thought this was OK. I picked it up as a serial killer book and that it was. The time frame was the 1890's in New York. Obviously there were no real forensics at the time and since these were killings of societies waste then the police didn't seem to care. Here comes Teddy Roosevelt to the rescue by assigning a snap team of unorthodox investigators.

Beth | 1 comments I read the Alienist and Angel of Darkness years and years ago, but both books have always stuck in the back of my head as ones I would love to re-read (thanks for the reminder). I'd recommend both of these books to anyone who enjoyed "The Devil in the White City".

Alie | 3 comments Loved the Alienest, Angel of Darkness not so much. He has a third book set in Italy that has rec'd terrible reviews. Anyone read it and recommend it?

message 9: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn (seeford) I really enjoyed this book, the sequel was almost as good. Read it a couple of years ago, but still remember it, it was that vivid!
Great combo book - historical fiction & forensic thriller in one package!
The book set in Italy isn't related at all to Alienist and Angel of Darkness. I thought it was, so I was *very* disappointed. Didn't finish reading it.
