SOLVED. Girl protagonist title something like "fortunes wheel" or "wheel of fortune"? [s]

i read this book maybe five years ago and it's driving me crazy trying to remember the title. the book starts in some little village and the protagonist wakes up in the middle of the night to find that a strange man is trying to steal her family's boat. she ends up leaving with the man because he captures her and won't let her go, knowing that she will tell her family what happened, and that he will be caught. they have adventures, and she eventually falls in love with him. At one point they are stuck on an island together- i remember them talking about drinking salt water, and how it will make you crazy if you drink too much. then somehow they both end up as slaves, and somewhere along the way they aquire a giant. the cover i remember is the giant carrying the man(who is unconious) and the girl walking behind. please help me!
