People always seem to compare modern books to classics, why not compare modern books to modern books? Name a few Fantasy books published in the last decade that are as good as or better than Harry Potter.
If you can, I'll definitely give them a read! So you didn't love this modern author, well who did you love then? Although I just joined I think this site is about sharing what we love in reading, what enchants us. I see so many people hating on Harry Potter, so you hate it, but what good modern author did you like then? I'm interested to see the responses!

I've already said, I don't mind HP books and am glad they are encouraging new readers, but they are not as deep or well-written as I prefer.
Contemporary books that are better IMO?
A Game of Thrones, George RR Martin
The Lies of Locke Lomora, Scott Lynch

1. Of course the series have become popular on promoting the reading, especially to children and youngsters. Nevertheless, everything will be hopeless if one only reads other books and stuff related either to Harry Potter's world or the author J.K. Rowling instead of other stuff, probably because other books may have a different difficult level for reading or because one is only entangled in the Harry Potter's fad.
2. It very obvious that the series has become very commercial, so the plot in the end had to be lighten just to please the fans in general. The saga finished in a soft note afterall, like the first book. Just when the plot was getting darker and deeper, it became brighter and lighter.
3. The story finished, but the commerce and marketing of Harry Potter will endure as long as it continues bringing money (the author deserves it, she had a rough life and everyone needs to work in something that can put bread on the table, but this can lead to exagerate the series' value).
Of course, that's what I believe, maybe you have a different point of view.

Yes it does. The moral of the series, is: to be selfless, put others before you, and try REALLY hard to choose good instead of evil. And plus, it is a really good book for its genre.

sucks for you. harry potter is the best thing, maybe the books are too big for you youngsters. try reading it throroughly (sp?) and then rate it. nobody who likes harry potter are idiots, the people who hate it are.

Nice. I can't say my age though. How come you wrote: @Kaleigh Smith?

How did you know my last name? Is it on my profile?

Capisco cosa vuoi dire. Harry Potter non viene in italiano?

she's saying 'I can not understand but want to read Harry Potter, saying that anyone who reads these books is an idoit, a little 'hard not to think of offending a lot of people? think twice before talking about my dear aquaintence' i think
