How can you people say this? Harry Potter is spectactular and I bet if you actually tried reading it, you would enjoy it too.

Millions of kids getting into reading because of this for the first time. Where is the downside?People always seem to compare modern books to classics, why not compare modern books to modern books? Name a few Fantasy books published in the last decade that are as good as or better than Harry Potter.
If you can, I'll definitely give them a read! So you didn't love this modern author, well who did you love then? Although I just joined I think this site is about sharing what we love in reading, what enchants us. I see so many people hating on Harry Potter, so you hate it, but what good modern author did you like then? I'm interested to see the responses!
I am almost 40 and recently finished the entire series for the first time. I loved them all so another "idiot" here.

I've already said, I don't mind HP books and am glad they are encouraging new readers, but they are not as deep or well-written as I prefer.
Contemporary books that are better IMO?
A Game of Thrones, George RR Martin
The Lies of Locke Lomora, Scott Lynch
I have no objection to everyone reading Harry Potter series, this is a free world and one has to respect each other's way of thinking and beliefs. However, I have some reservations about this series.1. Of course the series have become popular on promoting the reading, especially to children and youngsters. Nevertheless, everything will be hopeless if one only reads other books and stuff related either to Harry Potter's world or the author J.K. Rowling instead of other stuff, probably because other books may have a different difficult level for reading or because one is only entangled in the Harry Potter's fad.
2. It very obvious that the series has become very commercial, so the plot in the end had to be lighten just to please the fans in general. The saga finished in a soft note afterall, like the first book. Just when the plot was getting darker and deeper, it became brighter and lighter.
3. The story finished, but the commerce and marketing of Harry Potter will endure as long as it continues bringing money (the author deserves it, she had a rough life and everyone needs to work in something that can put bread on the table, but this can lead to exagerate the series' value).
Of course, that's what I believe, maybe you have a different point of view.
Kayla wrote: "The stupid book has no point at all! Only complete idiots would read Harry Potter!"Yes it does. The moral of the series, is: to be selfless, put others before you, and try REALLY hard to choose good instead of evil. And plus, it is a really good book for its genre.
Kayla wrote: "The stupid book has no point at all! Only complete idiots would read Harry Potter!"sucks for you. harry potter is the best thing, maybe the books are too big for you youngsters. try reading it throroughly (sp?) and then rate it. nobody who likes harry potter are idiots, the people who hate it are.

non riesco a capire voler leggere Harry Potter ma, dicendo che chiunque legga questi libri è un idoit, un po 'duro non credi di offendere un sacco di gente? pensa prima di parlare twich mio caro aquaintence
Sorry I can't agree with Harry Potter is for idiots. I think it was creatively written that catches kids interest and makes them read 7 thick books and enjoys reading it. I have to thank Harry Potter books because of them my 2 boys now love reading.
Yeah she hasn't answered in awhile. Maybe we hurt her feelings and scared her off, but, that is her fault because she started the discussion.

So what WAS going on? :\ (Haha) You know what's funny.... Mrs. Tiffany Snape has a picture of Snape, and Juliet has a picture of one of the Weasley twins. So it looks like Snape telling Fred and George off for a prank they did.
Katie wrote: "Magyk the first Septimus Heap book by Angie Sage"One of my FAVORITES!!!! The number seven... seven... and more sevens!!! Also magic, luck, potions....
