hahahha, so you hate it because all the books have a lasting plot line to them? Don't all series do that? Introduce the antagonist, and then spend the rest of the books trying to defeat it? I mean, if he had killed Voldemort in the first book, there would be no story it would be over. So don't pick on the series for holding the major conflict out over all the books. That's the whole point! Just say you don't like the story!

Give me an example of a series that has a COMPLETELY different plot in every book. With NO ultimate story, just a series of disconnected stories with the same characters. And not a single story thread going through the whole thing. Give me ONE example. (I will give you this, some tv shows are like that. but not many. There's usually a main story running throughout all of the episodes)

I just looked up that series, annnnd you were wrong. GRANTED, I have not actually read the book. But from the summaries of each book, I believe that the death of Kristen is still mostly a mystery in the third book, which has yet to come out. Also the romance between Caspian and Abbey is still having problems or whatever. Thus this story has many continuing threads through it and is just like every book series.

hmmm, you just described pretty much every book series out there. Just one more question though, did you think they would kill off the antagonist in the first chapter, and then create new villains every book?
Isn't this site supposed to be about sharing your love/(civil)opinion/feelings ect. about books? There is no reason not to discuss a book you don't enjoy, but doing it in this way is ridiculous and insulting and frankly makes it unpleasant to use the site.
That is completely rude! You can not decide that everyone that reads a book is an idiot! I have one question for you. HAVE YOU READ THE BOOK? You saying this is like me walking up to you, and I see you are reading. I recognize the book, and I do not like it. Because I do not like the book, I call you an idiot, and everyone else that reads it. How angry would that make you? So before making rude remarks about millions of people, try valuing other's perspectives. Harry Potter changed my life. Harry Potter helps me through everyday situations. Harry Potter is a big part of me, so I take this especially offensive and I think a lot of fellow Harry Potter fans can agree.
I read the first book and didn't like it at all. I don't think those who read and enjoy the series are idiots, and I'm not interested judging others' taste. I didn't like it because I thought the writing was plodding, simplistic, and uninspired. At first I thought it was because it wasn't for a person my age (yeah, oldish), but then it occurred to me that there is a lot of children's and young adult lit that sparkles and moves beautifully.
People tell me the later books are better, and I certainly hope that is true. Anyway, I decided that there were too many books and too little time to waste on material I didn't like, so I haven't picked them up.
Meh wrote: "Kimberly and Kayla, you wouldn't hate the series so much if everybody else didn't love it. Admit it. I'm guilty myself. We all like to be different than everybody else."Hah!, Meh, interesting observation. You could have a point. (sometimes I think I am the queen of contrariness.) But still: I only wish better children's lit got as much attention as this series gets. I love the fact that kids are reading; I just wish they were reading Lewis Carroll. :-)

Hate is such a strong word. The Harry Potter story isn't as complex or intellectual as one might want, but it isn't bad. It is entertaining and has stimulated a lot of young readers. If it puts a book in their hands, I give it brownie points.
it is a children's book really, good for a children's book but if you wanted substance you should read Dickens, Orwell, or the like. Reminds me of this quote:
"If you only read the books that everyone else is reading, you can only think what everyone else is thinking." — Haruki Murakami (Norwegian Wood)

HARRY POTTER ROCKS!!!!!IT IS ONE OF THE BEST SERIES I HAVE EVER READ.
i know everyone has their own opinions and i respect yours. some people just cant see the amazing work of art by J.K. Rowling
I think Harry Potter has been the single most important series of books for children and young adults in history. J.K Rowling has inspired millions of young people to pry themselves away from screens and immerse themselves in reading. The books are amazingly well-written, and can be enjoyed by people of any age. As for the people who think these books will make young people turn towards darkness and evil-I don't know how to respond to such ignorance. Rowling has won dozens of awards from esteemed Literary organizations and is a generous philanthropist. Her contribution to society is monumental. The Harry Potter series has brought joy, and a love of literature to millions. Hooray for Harry Potter!

@Jamie Ann. You are so right. Anything that gets the kids to read instead of watching endless hours of TV or sitting in front of a video game is okay by me. That is, of course, if it's appropriate material, which I think Harry Potter is.
Earrings wrote: "I wouldn't go as far as saying I absolutely hate the books, I just don't like them anymore.I read the first one and absolutely loved it, then it went downhill from there and I just lost interest...."
yeah me too. sorta. maybe in a few years when all the Harry Potter vs. Twilight furor dies down, then i might pick up the series again.
Yeah, i was able to get through the third book...i just fell bad because i promised some (ex)friends that I would read them and I just can't get myself to get throught them.
I don't hate it but there are a lot of things that the author did with it that I disliked. However, I recognize that this book was meant for a younger audience that does not have the same expectations of a book that I do.Many people have already posted some of the things that I disliked. I dislike how most characters fit neatly into good or evil as some have already stated before me. I felt that the world we saw in the books was rather limited but that is to be expected considering the protagonist's circumstances. I would have also liked to get to know the villains a little better, but as I said before-- it isn't a book meant for an audience that wants to know the villains.
I did love it when I was younger and back then I could see no flaws. It's one of those books that even now brings my imagination to life. That's something few books can do once you outgrow them.
I will admit to being a fan of the series, but for some reason, I had outgrown Harry Potter and when the next big thing happened, I found myself dropping the books quickly.
I'm glad Harry Potter was written because it has lured a lot of young non-extracurricular readers into the wonderful world of literature. However, I tried to read the first book twice now, and I personally cannot stand it. But as long as it gets kids reading, I am glad it's out there.

i must admitt i love the movies(: but for some reason i cant get into the book i did try though!! just wasnt my cup of tea(x
Okay, let me get this straight- you think only complete idiots read Harry Potter??? Hmmmmm.... let's see: I know a lot of people who read Harry Potter, including my friends and myself, and I have to say that we are neither stupid nor complete idiots, thank you very much. Actually, I'm quite certain that if you went onto the-leaky-cauldron.org and made a group with the title "For All You People Who Hate Harry Potter: Join Now!" that you would have over one hundred people commenting in a matter of minutes saying that they disagree. Now, I'm not saying that you are not entitled to your own opinion, because everyone is- I am merely saying that if you haven't read the books, how do you know you don't like them??? And if you have read the books and you don't like them, what are your reasons? Do you not like fantasy stories??? If so, then that's your problem. I just don't think it's right for you to think it's okay to call everyone who reads them idiots, because I love the Harry Potter books and I know I am not an idiot. Really, a simple, "I'm Not Quite Fond of the Harry Potter Series" would have been fine. Thanks.
*Agreed* i LUV IT! dont call peeps idiots!

Please reply by telling me what is so disgusting about the series? Which book did you pick up? What page were you on?
The Sorceror's Stone WAS written for children. As the series progressed, Harry grew older, and so did the targetted audience.
What exactly was completely rubbish about it? Can't be more ridiculous than Twilight (no offense to Twilight fans, but I am just not into them anymore. But that's another discussion).
As a second-grader, I was enthralled in this book. The entire series is an obsession that has taken up half of my life, and there is nothing disgusting in it. Really. Read Maze Runner or Gone for disgusting.
I enjoyed reading the book. However, I don't think that J.K. Rowling should have received as much praise and attention as she deserved. There are much better books in this world, which deserve more attention and praise. For example,

While I do see your point very cleary (ugh, Twilight, people!) I do have to defend HP a little.
No, Harry Potter is not the 'best book I've ever read', but it is my all time favorite, above all other books. That's not because of the world - well, kind of, that's a huge part - but because of the time it was brought to me. I read Harry Potter at an all time low in my life; J. K. Rowling wrote it at the same all-time-low. I was bullied for being smart, being different, for being passive. So when I read Harry Potter, when I saw Hermione being harrassed by people like Ron, or Malfoy, or even her own teacher, I felt a connection.
That is possibly the reason why many adults are so enthralled in the series.
While a child can love a book because of the prosethetic content, an adult can have a deeper connection to what lies underneath the magic - the idea that good triumphs evil, love is everlasting, even heroes have flaws, and those are just the obvious ones.
Did you know that the Dementors are based off of J. K. Rowling's depression? Or that she lived in an extremely tiny apartment, single mother, scrapping for a job? She wrote this on a napkin!
This is just me defending my reason for spending half of my life in love with Harry Potter, and possibly for many others out there. I do see your point and totally understand it. Have you read the entire series though?
OMG I LUV THIS BOOK! i cant stress it enuff!
I don't think people were meaning to call people who like Harry Potter idiots, I know i never meant t like that. Sorry if I came off like that.
Let me say that I don't hate books. I'd say that I like them or not. I bought the first Harry Potter and I couldn't finish it, maybe because I'm not that into Magic, and I didn't find the plot or the characters interesting. So I didn't try again. But I must say I respect people who like it, the same way I'd like to be respected for the books that I like.

No. Just no. I bet you have never read the books; Yes, some parts are boring but the plot gets so complex, the characters and setting become so more realistic and over all the whole Wizarding World just becomes the fascinating and you wish it was real! You must read the entire series to really appreciate it.
