So she doesn't like the book. Calling those that read it idiots, well I feel that was uncalled for. I read the first few, liked them and didn't read the rest. Though my daughter has/had (many books ruined in a flood). I can not honestly say why I stopped reading them. I may now add them back to my list.
We all have different likes and dislikes.. someone went OT and brought in video games/outside.. well not all kids like or enjoy sports. or music or video games, we each have our own likes and dislikes.
I say lets look at this picture and see that if we all liked and did the same thing, it would be a very boring life..
I am off now. to read parts of each the books I am reading at once.

You're calling a lot of people idiots - including me - Harry Potter is amazing. If you don't like it, then, fine, however it's not reasonable to be calling people who have a NICE opinion of something idiots. Harry Potter is a really good book - full of mystery and everything a good book needs.

It will die at some point, every book does.

I don't know some books and stories have been around for decades, even centuries.

i had a crush on Cedric before i even knew what Twilight was...

xD

Yeah... I'm wondering too... If they hate the book so much, why don't they just leave us alone... They hate it and yet they intend to cling to it by spending time talking about it or talking about how they hate it... Yeah I think they just hate something that's really popular to make them superior.. ;)

(And im 12, so we are about the same age! And ya, when i was nine, everyone thought that they were going to get a letter form Hogwarts.....)
WOW... I didn't realized there are lots of young goodread members here!!! I'm really amazed... And I'm impressed how they stood their grounds...

Do you mean J.K Rowling became a billionaire because Idiots decided to read her books?
Advice : R..."
I totally agree!!! REREAD IT! REREAD IT! YOU'LL LOVE IT!

Well, I hope none of them would die... For me, both are great literature and interesting reads... Although I totally loved Harry Potter books, I won't compare it to twilight... They have different genre.. Different world and different kinds of charm...

Point taken... I love harry potter but it's rude to judge people for who they are just because they don't like the plot are style of our books... All of those who loves harry, if you really like HP books, let's show what we learned from the books..the values and morals... So let's be nice everyone... Don't be a MALFOY... Try to be a Harry...
PS...Sorry if I offended those who loves Malfoy... But I know you get my point...ryt? ;)

Actually, I dislike HP very much so and lo..."
(I was joking. I bet you have many AMAZING friends. I am sorry if i offended you... )
THAT'S MY GIRL! You go girl!

Harry Potter has plot, a good one for that matter. It's also about growing up, the characters are incredibly well written (and it's really not that easy to come up with such vivid and believable characters); the books are teaching us lessons, showing us the value of high morals - I could go on like this for longer, but I don't want to bore you.
Besides, I'm sure it has been said often enough already.
I used to be a kid who hated anything 'mainstreamish' (I know, that's no word ;D ) but at some point I found out that sometimes there's a reason why many people like a certain thing...
So, Harry Potter is a lot, but stupid or pointless is certainly not in the list.
(ps: sorry for any mistakes in my comment. English isn't my first language)

No. You did really good with your English!

ALL RIGHT! I AGREE! Lets all forget rude things we have said (and typed) and all focus on the greatness of Harry Potter! ♥♥♥♥

The character?
The books?
If the character, well we can’t all like everyone. But he’s from the same mould that gave us a whole host of flawed heroes that tried to..."
I agree that the Potter books are derivative. Hopefully, some people have been encouraged to read some of the classics that you mentioned, rather than just reading another derivative like the whole present genre of vampires with raging hormones.

agreed again

Many thanks, Anne!
And I love your comment about why we are here; I'll drink (I'm a little allergic to grape juice, so I'll just go with red tea) to that, too. =)

YEAH... ABSOLUTELY! DON'T CALL US IDIOTS PEOPLE!!! HAHAHA... Let's all be happy!

As far as I understood it she didn't mean to insult anybody or anything - quite the contrary. =) And she said Grape-juice. While wine is made of grapes, too, it's a whole different process. So no need to worry.
...weren't we just discussing a book? How did I end up talking about grapes?^^
And I agree, too. Everybody has their own taste in books and that's good. =)

Hermione's name in the German translation is actually 'Hermine', but I guess it was just a little typo in this thread. ;)
Joshua, do you mean, she is the best, or a beast?
I like her *most of the time*, because she's a smart main character instead of the typical beauty, which is pretty cool. ...but she can be quite annoying.^^

Her reasons were good...I can add a few more.
The writing and prose is very easy and it flows good
The strength that the characters show after a loved one dies is encouraging.
The villain is actually as bad as it gets when it comes to creating a perfect race, and bringing on the next WW3
And the plot twists actually start in book 1
So I really don't see why Anne's reasons weren't good. I thought they were.
