Does anyone else besides me hate Harry Potter?

You need to let others share their own opinions with certain books Adam. You seemed to love writing this Grow up' thing. Do you understand that this is discussion forum? Readers write their likes or dislikes here.
Chad wrote: "But, you don't have to slander the book. Some people actually like it."Kimberly did submit her reasons of why she hates HP series. I can not say I agree to her opinion but she did share her feeling in a proper way.
You need to at least add your comment by copy paste Kimberly's comment of slandering part. That is a much decent way to discuss something.
Nurlely, you completely missed the point. Lest you experience deja vu again, read my response to you in the Twilight thread.
@ Adam: Per your response: "If someone doesn't like the story, fine. My remarks were in response to those who would insult the intelligence of readers who happened to enjoy the twilight books. I have no qualms about telling those people to grow up. I don't see what the basis is of you having a problem with my previous post. I'm not preaching censorship, but civility."You did ask others to grow up.
I have no objection to what books you like or dislike but in this discussion forum readers have rights to comment whether they like a book or not. I probably missed the part where a reader insulted the intelligence of readers who love Twilight.
You should respond specifically to that reader and tell him/her your reason of loving the series.
I personally think I love Twilight because of its romance. It is good enough to make me ignored the fantasy part in order to enjoy my reading. But Twilight fantasy world is a mess.
Sorry for not running that by you first so that you could make sure that I was sharing my opinion in a proper way. Also, you say that I should let others share their opinions... Well, I'm not stopping anyone =P

Hahaha....yes my fault for that. Sorry for running to you in that way...:)
How did I guess that a topic like this could cause some minor friction (possibly the first post would do it!)I, personally, like HP - but I think that's mainly because I started reading it when I was 11-ish and was headed off for boarding school myself (factor in a wild imagination and I was the target audience) However, the only reason I kept reading was because of my history with the book. If it had come along only 4/5 years ago I would never have picked it up, so can understand some people not giving a flying hoot (teehe, kinda pun!) about it at this stage.
Hate is a bit of a strong word - if I felt myself begin to feel that way about something I was reading voluntarily, I'd put it down and move on, really rather simple. I'm not saying you can't hate a book but the actions that would need to be taken for me to get that far (and believe me, it happened!) would be rather extreme if it was YOUR choice to continue to that point instead of just stopping at neutral or slight dislike.
Sorry, just thought I'd shove in my 'tuppence worth' :P

I like you. :) L.O.L. Anyways, so yeah that's what happened with me too basically, ans to be honest, if I hadn't read HP when I was 6 I probably wouldn't be into writing, fantasy, stories, and etc, as I am today.
Kimberly wrote: "Uh huh and they can like it but I don't have to. So it's my opinion and I have the right to hate the book an discuss that fact"That's funny, because I posted the *exact* same thing here AND in the Twilight thread. You agreed with my comment there, but you disagree with it here when it pertains to Potter. WTH?
@Kimberly: Re-read. In neither post did I criticize or praise either book. It was a statement with which you either agree or disagree. Its the principle of the matter. The title of the book referred to in my duplicate posts is irrelevant. I could have filled in the blank with ANY title. It is extremely obvious that you simply do not get it.

My question is - why did you carry on making yourself read when you started to feel even remotely close to hating the book. Hate is such a strong word to use for any book that I personally would never want to get that far with anything, especially books!
Maybe our use of the word differ slightly - the only book I hate has left me to the point that I cannot come close to picking up the author's other works and even refused to see a film based upon one of his different books, but it takes a lot to get me to that point(read: entire year studying/picking apart said book for english A level).
Is it true hatred or really an intense dislike but using the word hate as it seems so easily thrown about nowadays?
I love HP so much. I think I said it before. HP made me think that there is a supernatural world out there where I can't see. Twilight made me think that SM did not have good supernatural knowledge while writing the series. The fantasy is a mess. SM should just write romance novel instead. She is much better with The Host. I think she has learned her lesson...:)
Kayla wrote: "The stupid book has no point at all! Only complete idiots would read Harry Potter!"ok you are so... mean i LOVE HARRY POTTER... but by the way you cant really say people are idiots because you have not met almost all the people like me for example you dont even know who I am...jerk!!!
@Mattie: It is because of people like Kayla, whom you quote, that I made my earlier remarks. Unfortunately it seems that some here are so blinded by their hatred of Potter that they fail to understand anything different.
Kimberly wrote: "Adam wrote: It is extremely obvious that you simply do not get it. Uh, don't get what?"
It really wasn't that hard to understand. Others got it.
@Kimberly: I have nothing further to say to you about it. I'm not going to bang my head against the wall in effort to explain such a simple concept. As the late Robert Jordan (one of my favorite authors) was fond of saying, "Read and find out."
Feathers wrote: "To the writer of this discussion, I say: have you read the other ones? The meaning is clear. And to Ginny: I have read Beverly Cleary, and Lemony Snicket, and C.S. Lewis, and most of those books ..."
i agree and why start a conversation like this just keep it to yourself if you hate harry potter
@Kimberly - why do you spend so much time & effort talking down to people simply because they don't share your opinion on a book? When I read a book that I don't like, I might write a review expressing that, but I don't go trolling the internet to find people who like the said book so that I can be demeaning toward them.
You know what Kimberley - you're right, this is a Hate Harry Potter thread - so, to get back to topic - why do you hate Harry Potter? Characters, storylines etc (I wold love to be able to try to remember bits of the first book but I was 11, that was long enough ago for me to have forgotten everythinge except the general gist of it by now)?If you feel strongly enough that you will defend your feelings for this long on this thread then I respectfully will stop trying to see about changing you from a hate to intense dislike. After all, each to their own.
So, let the conversation begin - what was the firts bit that really started to put you off and lead down to hate?
I have to say, as much as I do like the books (and now it's not first thing in the morning for me!) - Rowling did seem to pad out some of her secondary characters better than Harry himself. He seemed a bit too predictable, even when he was probably supposed to be doing something 'unpredictable'. I guess you could say that about most books which are focused around one main MAIN character but hey, this is to get the convo back on track right :)
Kaleigh~*~*~*~*~An Inkweaver wrote: "Oh yes indeed. I made a wonderful witty compliment. Didn't I?"Definitely, I couldn't have said it better myself - you and I can totally keep up this hate hp thread, even if we don't actually :)
I don't hate it - I actually used to love it and, due to loyalty to a book I grew up with, I still quite like it - but we are on an anti-HP thread and so I'm merely trying to bring it back to topic so those who don't like HP don't feel to whaled on :DAlthough, at 24, I wouldn't pick the series up if it had only just come out - it's not my sorta thing anymore as opposed to when I was about to turn 11 and headed off for boarding school myself.
Yep. I haven't even seen the last 2 films (through choice).Did you notice how much difference there is between the first and last book - that is what kept me reading them really, like Rowling plotted to grab the children and then keep them as they grew up by writing 'older' to go along with the characters. Looking back, the first book was definitely written for the younger people, there wasn't so much need for elaborate plots and back stories and everything was just spelt out plus... is it just me or would Harry Potter (character not book) fall into the 'Mary-Sue' category?
Kaleigh~*~*~*~*~An Inkweaver wrote: "Mary-Sue?"It's a very weak version and really only kinda in the first book but, I dunno how to explain properly, any chance you can google it whilst I pop to shop for medically needed chocolate? Sorry :S
I'm back - sorry, chocolate was needed! It's just that it all seems to revolve too much around how special Harry is - I mean, I kinda get why, but still, at 11 I enjoyed it, I now would just think other things could've been expanded on instead.
Thanks for pointing out my age :P What really miffs me off is the fact that Rowling couldn't manage the impossible feat of bringing one out every year so I could actually 'grow up', so to speak, with them :P
I did though. Because the last book was published in 2007 right? And I started reading them in 2005, AND the movies. Can't forget that. So. Yeah. I practically grew up living on HP.
Wow, that is showing my age :O The first book was first published end of June or July 1997 and my dad bought it cos he thought it sounded like something I'd like. And yeah, it was bout '07 - I remember because I borrowed it off my friend after she decided to queue up for the book in Belfast while the rest of us were headed to the pubs :P
