Well Kimberly.
You could see the selling number from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_...

If you are still confused about where to find it, you just scroll until you see:
List of best-selling book series
At least 100 million copies

Here it is:
Harry Potter, J. K. Rowling, English, 7 + 3 companion books, 1997–2007, about 450 million

Income from the movies is not yet included...:)

And what about you? Can you give me your source?

NS

Julz Rulz eek! i DID like twilght, but my liking for it quickly diminished-idk why

Nurlely Twilight is good for its romance but its fantasy world is a mess. But I think the fans and all the Twilighters and Twihards are crazy about the romance between Edward - Bella - Jacob.

Kimberly Villarreal To Ginny:
As a teacher, some students are voracious readers, and I used to have a lunch book club with some of my 8th graders where we would read and discuss books. The HP series was voted by them to be entertaining but much like the twilight series, not wonderful. I would use what they did like as a jumping off point to direct them towards more thought provoking novels that they would enjoy more. With the kids that normaly do not read, if i can get them to pick up any book and have them show interest its a great thing, and since the movies came out the HP series has become a good starting point for many of the kids to enjoy reading. Even though I am not currently teaching reading, I always have a book Im reading on my desk, novels on the shelves, and encourage the kids to read if they finish work early. Many of my students pass me book recomendations that turn out to be pretty good. Any thing to get kids to be more creative and spend less time in front of a screen.

Nurlely I think teachers will suggest good books to the students. I have been working with lots of teachers from UK, USA, Canada & Australia that suggest HP series as good books. Most of the students have been so happy with the series. Only the reading haters dislike the series, which is quite obvious.

Our students who are suggested to read the series are from 10 - 18 years old.

message 758: by Bron (new) - rated it 3 stars

Bron I think the Harry Potter world is a wonderful place full of unusual details that really spark the imagination. However, I stopped after book 5 because I couldn't handle the deeper and deeper depths of despair that were associated with the books. Do they continue to be so full of hopelessness?

message 759: by David (new) - rated it 5 stars

David Williamson The fellow who hates Harry Potter is completely in his rights to hate it but in my oppinion is either very narrow minded or hasn't actually read the books and only saw the movies.

Nurlely I think everyone has every right to hate HP, but to bring 'some million' haters along is not a wise thing and a childish way.

You don't know why?
Peer pressure, perhaps?
It's "cool" to "hate" Twilight these days, isn't it?

I used to love Twilight and then I hated it, not because of peer pressure but because I read before the fan base got WAY out of control, but was just starting to get there. When the movie came out, Twilight exploded. I was still in high school at the time and I couldn't go to a single one of my 7-9 classes (w/e I had at the time) without seeing a girl with a copy of that damn book. The hype of Twilight mania drove me crazy and suddenly I became a hater.
Then I realized hating like that was silly. The movies suck, the books are average, and so beasically I'm indifferent to Twilight now.

message 764: by Hannah (new) - rated it 5 stars

Hannah Why are you spending so much time criticizing books that people worked long and hard at? All books have their flaws, but people are just going way out of their way to prove how "this book is terrible." I read Harry Potter when I was in second grade, and I would be so different if I hadn't heard of them. With Harry Potter, I was opened up to the world of books. Also, I spent innumerable afternoons playing Harry Potter with my cousins, making up our own ends to the stories. Recently I reread the whole series, and being someone who enjoys writing, I was really impressed with how the writing is. The world of Harry Potter was opened to me again. It is so vivid. I have read these books more than five times each. Every time, I get something new out of it. I grew up with Harry Potter, and the books are an essential part of my childhood.

message 765: by Hannah (new) - rated it 5 stars

Hannah As for Twilight: I read it just this year, and I think everyone is overreacting. People say Edward is a controlling boyfriend, but he'd never hurt her! That is the whole point. And he's not perfect. In one breath your saying "well, he's so unrealistically perfect" and in another it's "he's so abusive and controlling". Pick a side. He is sometimes controlling, but he controls her because he doesn't want her to get hurt.
Above all, please don't tell people to give up on love. I'm not saying you shouldn't give up until you find a boy who sparkles in the sunlight. I'm saying please believe in true love! Whatever you say about Twilight, please don't give up on that.

Margaret Hannah wrote: "Why are you spending so much time criticizing books that people worked long and hard at? All books have their flaws, but people are just going way out of their way to prove how "this book is terrib..."

Those are very wise words. I do completely agree, though. But that wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that I am one of the above mentioned cousins... :)

Margaret Hannah wrote: "As for Twilight: I read it just this year, and I think everyone is overreacting. People say Edward is a controlling boyfriend, but he'd never hurt her! That is the whole point. And he's not perfect..."
Again, I completely agree. Moving back to Harry Potter, that is the most powerful message in the Harry Potter books to me: love conquers all. Despite what you pessimists might say or think. I love how Dumbledore knows that Snape would never betray him, because Snape loved Lily, and Voldemort killed her. And I also am touched by the fact that after Lily died, Snape's ptronus took on the form of a doe, which was Lily's patronus. I also love the part in the Deathly Hallows where Narcissa asked Harry if Draco was alive and lied to Voldemort and said he was dead. That, in my mind. has always told me: never underestimate the power of a mother's love. Love is such a powerful thing that it changes lives; you wouldn't be who you are without the people that you love and the people who love you.

message 768: by Hannah (new) - rated it 5 stars

Hannah EXACTLY! That's the whole point of the series!

message 769: by Jordan (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jordan Harry Potter is an awesome series that leaves people breathless.

message 770: by Ann (new) - rated it 2 stars

Ann I don't hate it, but it is definitely not my favorite. I can see the appeal to kids.

Natalie I think hate is kind of a strong word, but I never really got into the series like everyone else.

Anna ♥☻☺♫♪ Natalie wrote: "I think hate is kind of a strong word, but I never really got into the series like everyone else."

I agree... i don't think anybody should feel hatred toward a book.... maybe they don't like it but they shouldn't hate it...i mean its just a book!!!!.. im not interested in them either but i don't hate them

Nurlely Natalie wrote: "I think hate is kind of a strong word, but I never really got into the series like everyone else."

The word is probably a strong one but that what the subject is. "Does anyone else besides me hate Harry Potter? "

Stefanie Câmara Manoel If you dont like harry potter you need to see a therapist because you have a serious case of the stupids!

message 776: by Catia (new) - rated it 5 stars

Catia ya harry potter is amazing. it is the BEST book ive ever read besides TimeRiders (by alex scarrow)

Nurlely Readers who dislike or hate HP series sometimes act in a nonsensical way. Like claiming there are so many readers out there who share their feeling.

The fact is undeniable. Millions HP series have been sold. If we can track down the number of HP fans on Google easily, then it is quite obvious the dislikers and haters can not do the same.

message 778: by Catia (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nurlely Kimberly wrote: "...Not many HP Lovers are polite about it "

You still need to provide the haters numbers. Then we could come to your comment above. How do you consider not polite? The ones who used awful words or the one with question you can not answer? Please elaborate...

deja vu:

OMG HOW CAN YOU HATE HARRY POTTER?!!?!! There is something mentally wrong with you!

Jacquel It is a crime to hate Harry Potter?

Nurlely Kimberly wrote: "Why would it break my heart when I'm right? Although I have no, "website valid source" with numbers, it's a social knowledge. No one counts how many people hate HP- talk about too many numbers- but look around, take a survey of your own. You will see."

Why would I take the survey? All my friends love HP series along with their families. I am sorry but did you even read my previous comments? My friends even suggested their students to read HP series.

Okay...no valid data then. What a useless debate! I thought you could at least provide me with the number. I was so wrong.
