Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
discussion
Does anyone else besides me hate Harry Potter?

Ahhh, the cat books. There are lots of books with clans, a few of which I adore, so I was curious. I think the people in the south in the Maria V. Snyder Study

Siyana, I appreciate your honesty. Its refreshing to have someone state their negative feelings about a book without having feeling they have to justify it to a bunch of other folks. Good for you.
I loved the first Harry Potter book. Each other one that came out I felt less enchanted. But I read it again and again as pure escape-ism. I read Robert Ludlum for the same reason. Completely unbelievable, but one does not need to fully engage one's brain to enjoy the read. In fact, it helps if you don't. Which might justify the view that only an idiot would enjoy the books. I don't agree with this view, but it might make sense to some ....

exactly why it's not child appropriate.

YES

SHE HAS HER REASONS!

exactly why it's not child appropriate."
YES IT IS! I KNOW A SECOND GRADER WHO READ THEM. She didn't describe it!

I love the Warriors series!!

YES"
I love Warriors!! I think my favorite character is Jayfeather......

So do I!! I've written lots of fanfictions......

who's that?"
She wrote the Princess Academy. She's really good! I haven't read ALOT of her books, but the ones I did read were good!

Why do you find it so idiotic? Evidently you must have a reason to beyond just stating a line or two!

Come on... you're not allowed to because of your religion, right? Well, there's nothing evil about the heroes in this series, it's about good vs evil. Classic. There is no satanic witchcraf in the series, and if you looked at stuff like Wicca with an open mind, witchcraft isn't bad in the first place. :/
As for hating Harry Potter... give me a good reason not to like it. No point at all? Have you even read the whole series?

Don't forget Snape! He's very byronic. :3

Why is it "drivel" to you? You judged it on the first 50 pages! As someone who has seen child abuse, I found Harry's ordeal with the Dursleys as endearing, and rather harrowing. I was also entertianed by it, J.K Rowling has a talent for writing pleasently despicable characters.
Or were you offended by the use of witchcraft? If you're just another religious nutball who's into burning harmless children's books, you're not worth my time.

When it spiked up high like that it means that an HP book came out.

The character?
The books?
If the character, well we can’t all like everyone. But he’s from the same mould that gave us a whole host of flawed heroes that tried to..."
Point for Skywalker and Tolkien!
I don't think everybody who reads it is an idiot. they may read it and think it was horrible, they may read it because to make sure it is as horrible as they think, they may be your closest friend and you don't even know it, they may be stuck in the bottom of a very, very, very, very (etc, etc) deep hole with no entertainment except for the harry potter series.
anyway, when I first entered this page I thought it was The CHARACTER you where talking about. I don't like the character very much. I mean he sounds nice, but there are just certain things about him that tick me off. like he seems to be a little bit of a show off. He seems to think he is better than everybody else (you can't read it, but you get the notion)... I can't remember the rest, but when I do, I'll add them. :)

But for the love of God, STOP getting all uptight just because children read them. Do you have any idea how refreshing it is to know that children are reading at all? Kids hate reading. I have friends who only read Harry Potter, and it's a blessing to know that these books are always there for children to enjoy, and that they sometimes are what convince children to start reading on a regular basis.
Censorship is WRONG. These books should not be burned or banned. It's WRONG. And you know what? Yeah, the later books don't over any sugar coatings or gentle ways of revealing harsh realities in the world. They're dark and people die, that's life. But Harry Potter teachers children lessons, that life can be dark and scary and people close to you could leave you. And the most important lessons of all: Death is an inevitable part of life, but love will always conquer death and love is the most important thing of all.
So how about, instead of taking these books away from children and letting them resort to watching mindless shows like Jersey Shore and whatever other crap is on tv these days, let them just read a damn book?

After a nine-year-old kid reads the last book, I would think he/she would have to. I'm a slight fan of Stephen king, I wouldn't consider myself easily afraid. But an 9 year old checking under the bed for monsters? TRY saying he/she wouldn't be freaked out. I DARE you.
