Even thought this is an old post, I felt the need to comment (:
I love Harry Potter, and honestly, how many books are written to actually have a real purpose other than to entertain readers? There is a large group of people who love the series and a large group of people who don't care for it. The series was created for those people who like it. So why does it matter if you like it or not? The purpose is to please those who are into that genre, and who enjoy the Harry Potter plot. It's the same for any other book. There are crazy Twilight fans as well as people who despise the series and think it's pointless and stupid. Again, the series was created for that group of people who actually enjoy it.

I personally love the books and have read the series several times. I am an adult and popping in to visit Harry and Hogwarts occasionally gives me a good break. I have also read the Narnia series, the Eragon series, tthe Game of Throne series, among many others. There are many books I do not like, but I would never call someone an idiot for liking something I don't. Also, the Harry Potter series got both of my sons reading when previously they wouldn't pick a book up.

I read the first book and thought it was really slow-going and predictable for the first hundred pages. I didn't really want to read it until the very ending. Maybe it was because the movie ruined it for me or maybe it was because I simply don't enjoy fantasy. I just didn't think it was all it's cracked up to be.
