Snail in Danger (Sid) Nicolaides (upsight) | 289 comments I read this sometime between 2002 and 2009, but I believe it was published in the 90s. I think it was a hardcover, and that the background of the cover image was dark. I believe the author was male, maybe with a last name in the second half of the alphabet. I think the protagonist was male too, but I'm only 90% sure.

There's a part of the book where the protagonist (or possibly a different character) quotes Karl Popper, or is reading a book by Karl Popper, or possibly both.

I think the book is set in New York City, but I'm not completely sure.

As far as I recall, the main character was some kind of investigator. Maybe a cop, maybe a private investigator, maybe an investigator for a government or U.N. agency not typically associated with law enforcement. (Like the CDC, but I don't think that was necessarily it.)

Somehow he stumbled into some kind of conspiracy that involved squirrels in public places. The squirrels had been implanted with micro-cameras that recorded and transmitted conversations that took places around them.

If anyone recognizes this book, that would be fantastic. :)

Snail in Danger (Sid) Nicolaides (upsight) | 289 comments Yes! Embarrassing, I even looked at my Goodreads shelves to see if I could find it and failed. (Doesn't help that I had thought the title was The Camera Eye, I guess.) Thanks!
