Kayti (kaytigrace22) | 3 comments How did we all find out about Shannon Hale?

For Christmas 3 or 4 years ago my aunt gave me Goose Girl and I devoured the book it was so good. Then I just went to the library and read more and more of her books.

~♥Alyssa♥~ (lyssie123) | 154 comments Well, about four years ago my aunt told me she had this really good book I should read. The next time I visited her, she gave me Goose Girl. It took me a couple months before I got around to reading it, because I thought the title was stupid and it would be boring. Finally, I started reading it and I loved it. Then I begged my mom to get me Enna Burning. Later my friend let me borrow Princess Academy, and now, I love Shannon Hale!

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

I must have been about nine or ten, and I was at my cousins house, (my cousin's about two years older than me,) and I asked her what her favorite book was, and she told me The Goose Girl. And I didn't think much about it then, but I was at the library a couple of months later, and the librarian had a stack for book club and offered one to me. I remember reading all three of them and liking them, and then not really thinking about the triogy any more. And then, like, two years later discovered that she had written Forest Born, and being sooo excited, and I love her books even more now.

About 4 years ago I was at my school's book fair and saw Princess Academy. I thought it sounded good, so my mom gave me money for it- now Shannon's one of my fave authors.

message 5: by Liv (new)

Liv (livijean) I got goose girl as a Christmas gift, i read the first half, cried my eyes out and didn't pick it up for another 9 months. I was glad when i finally picked it up again.

message 6: by ~♥Alyssa♥~ (new)

~♥Alyssa♥~ (lyssie123) | 154 comments Why did you cry??

message 7: by Liv (new)

Liv (livijean) Cause i live in one of those ridiculously happy families that are way close and when she got betrayed it was the last straw, I just thought it was one of the saddest things i had ever heard.

message 8: by ~♥Alyssa♥~ (last edited Apr 24, 2010 04:20PM) (new)

~♥Alyssa♥~ (lyssie123) | 154 comments Oh, yeah, that was really sad. :(

message 9: by Naomi (new)

Naomi (catfanatic) My mom and bro read them, and I dismissed them, didn't read them. I think I then got GG for my b-day or Christmas. read it once? then one day I was cleaning my room, and saw it, read it, loved it, read the rest of the books, loved them. xD happily ever after. xD

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

A friend gave me Princess Academy for my birthday over four years ago and after that I was hooked.

message 11: by Chachic (new)

Chachic I remember I just saw Goose Girl in one of the bookstores and thought the cover was really nice. I'm always interested in fairy tale retellings so I thought I'd give it a try. I'm glad I did! After that, I read the rest of Shannon Hale's books and kept recommending them to friends. I also follow Shannon's blog and she used to do these author interviews and I found a lot of favorites from those. :)

message 12: by Liv (new)

Liv (livijean) Yeah, ive run out of people who haven't read them.

message 13: by Naomi (last edited Apr 26, 2010 09:45AM) (new)

Naomi (catfanatic) the onle people I can think of who haven't read them are the ones who refuse to read them.

message 14: by Monica (new)

Monica Moss | 34 comments My grandma was visiting us and she bought us the Goose Girl and i had nothing to read for reading so i took that and LOVED it. did you know that on an interveiw with Stephinie Meyer she said her favorite auther was Shannon Hale? How kool is that!

message 15: by Liv (new)

Liv (livijean) I absolutely hate twilight ( liked the host) so let's not bring stephenie meyer into this or i will bring in a heated debate on how much i dislike her as a person and her starting series

message 16: by Kayti (new)

Kayti (kaytigrace22) | 3 comments Chachic wrote, "I also follow Shannon's blog..."
Chachic can you get me the link for Shannon;s blog? Please!

Olivia - you are right lets not bring twilight in this. At one of my other groups I got in a debate about Stephanie Meyer and almost a fight. I really hate all of her books. I never read THe Host what is it about?

I can- I follow it as well. :) here it is: http://oinks.squeetus.com/

message 18: by Contrary (new)

Contrary (that-contrarian-librarian) My sister picked the Goose Girl up at the library when I was about seven or eight, and I read it and really liked it. Been following her writing ever since.

message 19: by Liv (new)

Liv (livijean) The host is an interesting body snatchers themed sci fi book. i know that that sounds really weird, but it was actually very well done. Stephenie Meyer is not a young adult author, thus the fail on twilight. The host explores human nature and what it takes to love from an interesting perspective.

message 20: by Monica (new)

Monica Moss | 34 comments Going by Olivias hatting twighlight, i hate it too. hate stephine meyer and all her books (havent read the host) i just though that since shes such a popular author (dont know how)it would be kool to share that she liked shannon

message 21: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Ooops, sorry for the late reply. Rae already provided the link to Shannon Hale's blog. I think Shannon Hale and Stephenie Meyer are both fans of each other's work and they're good friends. I've seen Shannon mention Stephenie in her blog a couple of times. Like the others, I'm not a fan of Stephenie Meyer's work.

message 22: by Liv (new)

Liv (livijean) I think Twilight was ok, but when she continued and made it all disturbing it opened my eyes to the nature of where she wanted to go with twilight and made me sick.

message 23: by Breanna (new)

Breanna | 12 comments I was introduced to Shannon Hale's books back when I was in middle school. I am pretty sure it was when Goose Girl was the only book Shannon Hale had out. I found Goose Girl at my middle school library along with a few other books. I kept putting off reading Goose Girl. It didn't really appeal to me, but I ran out of books and started to read it. I loved it. I was kicking myself for not reading it first. Since then I have been reading Shannon Hale's books as they have come out.

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

My sister in law to be loves reading. She gives me a bunch of cool books to read. One time The Goose Girl happened to be in the pile. Read it and loved it. From there on I checked all her books out of the library, found her fan forum, and began reading her blog.

message 25: by Hailey (new)

Hailey I know the books because of my mom told me about them. I agree. Twlight is very destrubing.

message 26: by Jessie (new)

Jessie | 187 comments Naomi told me to read them and she knows books so I did so it is all her fault but I love the books.

message 27: by Tanya (new)

Tanya Mac (yoyochkmeouthotmailcom) | 3 comments I read Princess Academy when it first came out at the school library where I worked. My students were all fighting to check it out. The next book I notcied of her was Austenland which is the funniest freaking book I had read in quite sometime. Who doesn't pine for Mr. Darcy! Thats when I went to B&N and got my hands on the rest of her books and tried to be patiently waited for The Actor and the Housewife to come out! Now I am waiting for a book signing to meet my new favorite author. When I found out she was in my area it was the day after! Doh!

message 28: by Jessie (new)

Jessie | 187 comments That sucks I am trying to Find a book signing of hers but alas I cannot.

Emily Eastman | 4 comments I saw people doing book reports on The Goose Girl when I was younger and asked them about it they said it was really good and explianed it to me. It kinda blew my mind until my friends all started reading it the next year and where shocked I hadn't read it so I checked it out from the library and liked it. I got Enna Burning for my B-day about 2-3 years ago and it has got to be my favorite in the Goose Girl sereis.

message 33: by Naomi (new)

Naomi (catfanatic) I don't think she's doing any right now. I couldn't find any recent dates on her blog. (And Jessie, she rarely does them in our area... not sure why... I'm pretty sure her last one in our area was on you b-day party... and that was a while ago.)

message 34: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 346 comments Mod
I didn't think so either, but it never hurts to check. (and she NEVER does them in my area, so you aren't alone, guys)

message 35: by Marissa (new)

Marissa | 27 comments I forgot to read for my reading log at school and I didn't have a book so i asked my stepsister if I could borrow one. She gave me Princess Academy and I absolutely loved it so I ordered Goose Girl online. My stepsister never got her book back. :)

message 38: by Lucy (new)

Lucy (lucygraceshirley) | 19 comments My mom gave me Goose Girl after reading a review of it. Six months later I freaked out when I found that a sequel had just come out. I was in love ever since.

message 39: by Jessie (new)

Jessie | 187 comments I think she should do a book signing in our area. Naomi that was not a signing it was just a reading Right?

message 40: by Naomi (new)

Naomi (catfanatic) it was both.
she said on her blog that she's not doing any for the next few year with one possible exception on Aug 21. It's in Ut. You can look on her blog. (Note: it's in a blog post, not the calendar.)

message 41: by Jessie (new)

Jessie | 187 comments Oh I did not know that. I guess it would make sense her not doing anymore for awhile if she is having a baby.

message 42: by Jessie (new)

Jessie | 187 comments I liked Austenland but liked her other books so much better

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

I was at my library and I was just browsing through books (aka pulling random ones off shelves and reading what they were about) and I happened to come across the Goose Girl and I took it home and read it. Twice. And then went and got Enna Burning and River Secrets. That is all I have read so far but I want to read more of her books. They sound really good.

message 47: by Lucy (new)
