Valerie Have you ever reviewed a cookbook? I thought that we could post links to cookbooks and cooking-related books in a new folder (Cookbook Reviews).

You don't need to copy and paste the review... just enter the name of the reviewed cookbook as the "topic", and then include the link to your review in the "message" section, along with a few words if you like. I've posted links to two of mine. Feel free to add your own or comment. Also, it might be interesting to see more than one review of the same book, so don't be shy if your favorite (or least favorite) has already been posted.

Rhonda (rahrah) Valerie, I added one to the bookshelf. Can you move it to the new shelf? It's James Peterson's "Essentials of Cooking." I'll review the others over the weekend. The other two are my favorite baking cookbooks.

I'm curious. How many of us know just how many cookbooks we own or have read? My mother has close to 50; my stepmother has 250+; and I probably have between 30-50. There seems to be so much to learn in the kitchen. It's like art, it never grows old.

Valerie Rhonda: I'm not sure what you want me to do. Are you referring to the new "Cookbook Reviews" folder when you're talking about the "new shelf"? If so, you need to post the link to your reviewed cookbook yourself (let me know if you need help doing that). If not, could you please clarify?

I'm not sure how many cookbooks I own. I'll head downstairs and do a quick count later, but I'm estimating about 100. I rarely buy cookbooks anymore - I like to check them out of the library first, and then if I really love it, I'll buy it, but if not I'll just photocopy the few recipes I want and add them to my cooking binder. My library has a great on-line system where I can put the cookbooks in order of which are newest, so it's kind of like shopping at amazon but I don't have to pay. (Not that I buy anything at amazon anymore, due to this link originally posted by Michelle):

My stepmom and dad got a cookbook from one of their friends on their wedding day. It was all of her family's recipes. it had everything from salads to apple turnovers to glazed salmon.

Valerie My mom has a drawer that's packed FULL of recipes... as in: if you weren't her there'd be no way to ever find what you were looking for in there. I find it to be really sweet because they're all written out by hand on index cards (my recipe "drawer" is a binder of photocopied or collected recipes).

It would be nice if my mom's were collected into a book (a la Mayrose's post) but I don't know if she'd ever speak to me again if I mixed them up :)
