Vance | 362 comments Tom just announced that he is leaving CNET (other than some small roles) and moving to the TWIT network. He already moved his podcast East Meets West over there, and I am wondering whether Sword and Laser might become part of Leo's empire as well?

Sean O'Hara (seanohara) | 2365 comments Given how many TWiT contributors are sci-fi buffs, I'm amazed Leo doesn't have a show devoted to the subject already. Especially since it could be a giant Audible commercial.

Christian Cantrell (christiancantrell) I would definitely subscribe to a sci-fi podcast. Great idea.

Tamahome | 7230 comments Nah, they couldn't handle a weekly book show. Only Luke Burrage can. :p (Takes a lot of free time.)

agree... or, "takes a lot of staffers" like Jon Stewart has, making him look like he really reads 4 books a week ;)

Also: Would 800-1000? S%L members (I don't know, how many more are downloading the podcast) scale up to a widening TWIT audience? What "LEOprah Network" really needs is new audience? Fresh blood?

Maurice (goodreadscommjamison) | 1 comments A TWIT sci-fi (syfy) podcast seems natural now.

Otto (andrewlinke) | 110 comments It would be great to see Sword and Laser fully supported by a network, and TWiT would probably benefit from widening their audience a bit. Maybe with guaranteed support and exposure S&L could grow... Perhaps have a couple more part-time hosts rotating so we can go through more books? Though, that would take a bit from the intimacy of everyone being on the same page...
On the other hand.... I love TWiT, but I don't have the time to listen to all of the great content. It makes me feel like I'm abandoning Leo because I can't listen to every show every week anymore :-P
Ok... done rambling...

I was thinking of something more like the SFFAudio podcast -- have interviews, go through new releases, discuss the news. If Tom and Veronica did it, the book club could be a once a month feature.

I know what you mean. I only have time to listen to This Week in Tech, and none of the other podcasts. Between podcasts, audiobooks, and NPR, my commute just isn't long enough.

Alex Covic (buckybit) | 25 comments Leo just said he would take S&L and add it to his CNN Twit Network. He also said someone else has to confirm/deny a previous offer (If I understood correctly).

So, there is hope.

I am still depressed having to hear that Leo wanted Tom AND Molly (!) but CNET would not let Molly go. :/

Or include member content. A lot of us have Skype too, and we are all reading like crazy! We could even send them pre-recorded blurbs, like the old book reviews on Reading Rainbow. Heh.

Sffaudio (scifi & fantasy) is a good podcast, even if you don't listen to audiobooks. They come out biweekly on sunday nights. Hi Scott.

terpkristin | 4407 comments I guess I'm the only one that wouldn't like S&L on the TWiT network. I think over the last two years, the quality of the shows on the network has gone way down (coincidentally while the length of the flagship shows goes way up). Only shows I seem to listen to on the network anymore are Current Geek Weekly (new show, with Tom, and I hope it doesn't change as it gets older) and Munchcast (which is theoretically a weekly show but has been fairly sporadic since coming back). But $ is $ and if it's better for S&L to go that way, so be it.

East Meets West has been on the TWiT network for a couple months now, and it hasn't had any decline in quality.

I think most of us are hoping that if the show jumps to TWiT, the episodes will come out with more regularity, and maybe more frequently.

Tamahome | 7230 comments Speaking of twit, I've been checking out Maxwell's House lately. He's been talking about flying, and listening to his ipod underwater. Colleen was the guest host a few episodes ago.

Aha! But I think that the reason a lot of the TWiT shows have gone downhill is because they record when they have nothing to say. Heck, even when they have something to say, they spend maybe 25% of the show talking about topical items and the rest of the increasingly-longer shows talking inside baseball and irrelevant stuff. This is certainly true for flagship shows like TWiT and MBW. Can't say I've ever listened to East Meets West, but I will agree that so far, Current Geek Weekly is a great show that doesn't have this problem.

But I think part of the charm of S&L is that they only record when they're ready to talk about something. Of course, S&L is also not part of their normal "job" stuff, I would imagine that takes some of the stress off. Putting it onto TWiT might make it more of a job.

As I said previously, though, if Tom and Veronica have an opportunity to put it on the TWiT network and think it'll work better for them, so be it. I'm all about the ensured future of the show, regardless of the distribution network.

I tend to agree with this -- a number of podcasts I listen to come out regularly, but S&L is always a pleasant surprise when I see it download!

Matty Van (mattyvan) | 55 comments I prefer Rev3 to twit, my issue with twit is that in there effort to be broadcasting 24/7 there shows are too long and they talk about many of the same topics in multiple shows, wish they would keep the shows under an hour instead of 1.5 hours am sure they could do so by just trimming some of the off topic junk they talk about.

That being said I love leo and am a twit fan.

I think a monthly or bi-weekly podcast on twit would be a good thing and would grow sword and laser's audience.

Regarding the twit audience there viewership will grow overall when they diversify there show lineup a bit so its not 95% hard core tech talk which will draw new viewers into there current shows.
