Unfortunately, Amazon has disabled that capability. (It used to work, and you will find many Kindle editions on GR that were imported that way.) So yes, all Kindle books must be added manually.
And you certainly can add an ASIN manually. There's a link next to where the ISBNs go that toggles between ISBN and ASIN.

OK I'll add them manually. Thanks a lot. But if Amazon enabled that capability someday please let us librarians know.
So, what's the best practice to add a Kindle book whose paperback edition is already in GR? Thanks.
