Kate Daniels/Kate Daniels World- Ilona Andrews
I am reading Magic Bites right now. The world Andrews has created is amazing. I have bought the 2nd because of how I am enjoying the first. It does not have HEA and is definitely more UF rather than PNR. Some reviewers on amazon (I always read the 1 and 2 star reviews) said it was two gory and violent. It is gory and violent, but I don't think it is anymore so than other UF/PNR books. It is not a light book or a happy feeling book. But I am really enjoying it. I think it is well written and I am just so amazed at the creativity of the author.I am only halfway through the first book, so by no means an expert on this series.
It's definitely UF, but we're holding out for that HEA in the long run. ;) Hands down though, this is one of the best UF series out there. They've created such an amazing world full of complex heroes and unique and interesting foes.Magic Strikes was one of my top three favorite releases of last year and I continue my increasingly impatient wait for the release of Magic Bleeds. ;)
I enjoyed this series ultimately altho when I first read the first book I wasn't ready for the full UF, so I was a bit disappointed, but once I finished the 2nd book and had my head wrapped around the fact that it was UF I LOVED it! Yes definitely holding out for the HEA in the long run and I'm soooo looking forward to the next book!
They -- is it two authors? I have heard this before mentioned ....ETA: Ah, I see, it talks about it here: http://www.ilona-andrews.com/
"'Ilona Andrews' is actually two people, my husband, Gordon, and I."
I told you Regina. I told you. The series is amazing!!!Ilona and Gordon write the series together. Husband and Wife.
The books get better and better too :)
I was able to post two never before released tiny snippets on her site and I added the quotes here on Goodreads too.... So fellow Kate Daniels fans go ahead and read em!

You did. :) What a dream job -- writing with your husband. Now that is a HEA. :)

Yeah these books are amazing, I was totally absorbed in them when i first started reading. Magic Strikes is my favourite at the moment!I was completely in love with Curran as well when I was reading them, but love it when Kate and him first meet "Here kitty kitty kitty" lol that was hilarious!
I love this series. The books are amazing and the atmosphere of the story is, wow. Curran is so hot :-) I like the world of this story and Kate is a very interesting and strong person. And Curran also :-) Can't wait for the next book

Suzanne that was a great scene. :) I am on the 2nd book, Magic Burns and am enjoying it. I love the authors' descriptions of everything.
Just wait for Magic Strikes, Regina,it is fantastic - not to take away from the first two books, but they went above and beyond with the third book.
Yeah, I love all the Kate and Curran scenes, the banter between them is really good. Magic Burns is really good, I love Derek, her teenage werewolf companion (lol I think she calls him something along those lines!)
Yeah I can't wait either, only about 1 month to go!
Teenage Werewolf Sidekick Lol *grins*Book 3 was definetly fan-freaking-tastic. A can't put down read. *cough* the phone call *cough*
Magic Bleeds too. Seriously. awesomeness. Kate took it to another level in that one!
I know, when I got the 3rd book, I literally sat down and didn't move until I had finished it! It was amazing! LOL oh god yes, that was so fricking funny, i was laughing like a loon when i read it.One of my fave quotes:
"Not only will you sleep with me, but you will say 'please'"
I stared at him shocked.
The smile widened. "You will say 'please' before and 'thank you' after."
Nervous laughter bubbled up. "You've gone insane. All that peroxide in your hair finally did your brain in Goldilocks"
LMAO I love that quote!
So I am on book #3 and loving it. I loved what Kate learns in #2 about Curran and the bowls of food. :) I am really sad that I am almost at the end of the series -- #4 is out 5/25. One of the things I love about this series is that there are serious drawbacks to magic, to being a vampire (LOL -- talk about drawbacks!), to being a shapeshifter and to having power. In many other UF or PNR books, the being of a vampire, shapeshifter or witch doesn't have alot of drawbacks or weaknesses (except for silver and sunlight). The world Andrews has created has depth, it is three dimensonal. The main character gets tired and hungry, some people really don't like her. There is loss and bad things happen. Just an amazing book.
Yeah, I really liked that aswell I was like yay, he does really like her!! Yeah, that's what I liked about her books, they are all quite realistic. I also quite like the fact that Kate and Curran don't just jump into bed with each other and you can feel the tension building between them especially in the third book, all I am saying is AWESOME bath scene!
I can't wait till the next book is out, mine won't get here until June : (
This series sounds great! I want to get to it as soon as I can. There are currently 3 books out right?
Right and the 4th is going to be released in May and then there is a short story in an anthology
about one of the minor characters in the book.
Hey Jen, you should definately give them a read, they are really good, they suck you in and Kate is a brilliant main character : )Oh yeah Magic Mourns is really good as well, it was interesting seeing the same world from a different POV.
Kate is one Bad Ass MamamJamma. I LOVE her.Probably one of the most well written and thought out characters in UF right now.
Not to mention the world building, ideas, and overall awesomemess of Ilona and Gordon :)
The series has everything I love in a book.
OH my goodness I laughed out loud so many times last night and this morning reading Magic Strikes. I LOVE the scene where Kate is talking to Raphael and Andrea and explaining why her and Curran don't work together -- because he needs a "Can-I" girl and she is going on and on ...... and then ....LOL
Lol that bit is funny, I want to reread these now after talking about them, especially Magic Strikes! i think I will just before Magic Bleeds comes out (a month or so to go!)Have you got
? That has Magic Mourns in it, which is about Andrea and Raphael.
I am trying to be a good girl and not buy it (LOL -- I have been buying so many books lately), but I checked it out from the library, it is being sent to my branch -- I should have it by Monday! I can't wait. After reading their dynamic so far in Magic Strikes -- I can't wait to read a story just about them.
The short is great. And you learn some cool things about some peeps :) Like Teddy Jo.and the apples ;)
My library is rubbish it seems compared to everyone elses! They never hae any of the books I want : ( Ahwell, Amazon, here I come lolyes, Teddy Jo says some interesting things: )
I think there is an extract of Magic Bleeds in there as well, but I didn't read it, it would just make me want it more!

My library is pretty good but it doesn't stop me from loading up my Kindle -- Amazon is my best friend too. :)
I have trouble read excerpts and teasers too. I still haven't read the first chapter of Dead in the Family that is on Harris' website. I will wait!
What is Kindle? I keep hearing people mention it, but have no idea what it is!I only read excerpts from books I know are already out and I am deciding whether or not to buy them. It is too frustrating otherwise! Oh I didn't even know there was a excerpt of that! My copy of Dead in the Family is on pre-order, lol as is Magic Bleeds!
Kindle is Amazon's e-reader (like the Barnes & Nobel Nook): http://www.amazon.com/Kindle-Wireless... or maybe this link is better http://amzn.com/B0015T963CYeah -- Amazon loves me. :)
Oh just checked that out, it looks good, going to hae to save up for it I think. I have been debating getting some sort of e-reader, but wasn't sure. You would recommend it?

Don't worry I'm suffering right along with you. My library is terrible, if it's not a religious book, they don't have it. (Unless a kind reader with my tastes decides to donate there books!) I'd probably still buy all of my books if they had them though.
Magic Bites is the only one I've read, the series definitely has potential. I've bought all of her other books because of just that one read. (Just need to find the time to read them. He-he!) She has a new sci/fi book coming out that I'm very curious to read.
My library looks really nice, but doesn't have anything I want to read in it! I tend to buy them instead, but if I don't like the book I blame the library as they shoudl have had it : )You should definately carry on reading, the books get better and better, Magic Strikes (book 3) is the best so far and I am hoping Magic Bleeds, when it comes out, will be even better.
I didn't know she was bring out a sci-fi, I have read On the Edge and I can't wait for the second one to come out, I didn't know she was releasing anything else
Yep, it always hurts when you buy a dud. I love blaming my library. ^_-Silent Blade this is the one I"m talking about. Glad you liked On the Edge, I also bought that one on good faith.
Oh yeah I have read that! I think I have it as an ebook somewhere. I forgot about that one. I wonder if she is carrying that book on, when I was reading it it sounded liked she was building a world up.Yeah On the Edge was really good, I can't wait to read about William (I think that's his name!) in the next one. Although I think I prefer the Kate Daniels series, although that could be because their are more books to get stuck into!!
BARNES and NOBLE is SHIPPING Magic Bleeds....RUN and ORDER LOL
There is a soft release date so they are shipping....
OMG really?! That's so unfair!I preordered mine on Amazon, going to check when it is going to be sent!
So enthusiastic about a book release! Sounds like a good sign to me, no one ever waits like that for a so so book only great ones! Just moved this series up my TBR!
You defiantely should, the books are really good. I normally prefer PNR to UF but Kate Daniels is a kick ass character and Curran *fans self* is my one true love, so hands off! : )
Erika wrote: "BARNES and NOBLE is SHIPPING Magic Bleeds....RUN and ORDER LOL

Wow, really? Good, good stuff... going to place my order now!
It is a very good series. I liked the first one but some people have trouble getting into it. So if you are one of those people then push on bc the series gets better and more amazing. It is urban fantasy not paranormal romance. I highly recommend it. But the romance isn't resolved until book 4.
I would really recommend this one Mariya, it is brilliant, although the romance isn't resolved until book 4 the build up to it is really good, and these books have some of the funniest lines! The books also get better as they go along so like Regina said just keep reading! Here is one of my fave quotes as a taster : )
"Not only will you sleep with me, but you will say 'please.'"
I stared at him, shocked.
The smile widened. "You will say 'please' before and 'thank you' after."
Nervous laughter bubbled up. "You've gone insane. All that peroxide in your hair finally did your brain in, Goldilocks."
I finished with Magic Bleeds today and I was a little bit disappointed of this book. Because Magic Strikes was so amazing good I had high expecations for this new book. Maybe this was the reason that I feel a little bit sad about this book.Hope the next one will be better.
