Jamie, The Wheel of Time is my favourite series ever! It is epic fantasy, not UF or YA, but I adore it. The books do get much better as they go.

Darcy, you will have to let me know what you think of My Soul To Keep.

message 420: by Lynda (new)

Lynda I am currently in the process of rereading any of my books that I can't decide if I want to keep. I will be moving and downsizing next year when I turn 62. I want to get rid of at least 7 of my 18 bookcases.

I am dividing the books in piles of keep, discard, and maybe. I will be rereading "maybes". In interest of honesty, I am also rereading some of my favs simply because I can.

Sorry, won't be taking part in any challenges or discussions or trivia challenges till I am done.

Rizzaleen | 10 comments I just finished reading The Hollows series. Love it and I'm excited for the next book! Anyways, right now I'm reading Mercy Thompson by Patricia Briggs. I'm on the second book and so far so good. :)

message 427: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I finally finished Small Favor, Yay! I liked the book, There were too many pages (541) for my tastes with long explanations and opinions on various subjects. The sneaky guy hides information I want to know in the over verbose prose, so I can't scan and skip. Butcher is an excellant writer and most of the people I've talk to don't have the same probblem as I do. I see a book creaping up to 600 pages and I start to sweat! On to Turn Coat!

message 428: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 109 comments I finished Twice Bitten (Chicagoland Vampires, #3) by Chloe Neill last night and it was awesome! Definitely the best in the series.

Now I'm going to start Twice as Hot (Tales of an Extraordinary Girl, #2) by Gena Showalter and maybe My Soul to Keep (Soul Screamers Series #3) by Rachel Vincent .

message 429: by MsBeaglely (new)

MsBeaglely | 114 comments Finally finished Bone Crossed (Mercedes Thompson, #4) by Patricia Briggs . I didn't think I would ever finish it.

Up next is Embers (Anya Kalinczyk, #1) by Laura Bickle . I'm orginally from Detroit, where this books takes place. I had to laugh when Anya goes into a bakery and saw two of my favorite Polish foods; Pirogis & Paczkis. Nobody understands that stuff down here in Florida.

message 430: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 822 comments Jen let me know what you think of Embers. I was excited to read this one, but I gave it up as it just couldn't keep my attention.

message 432: by Becca (new)

Becca (goblinfan) | 215 comments Just finished Paths Not Taken by Simon R. Green. Still listening to Storm Front by Jim Butcher. Like it though. Still reading The Sweet Scent of Blood, and Supernatural: Nevermore. I'm not sure what to make of Sweet Scent of Blood just yet. SN: Nevermore is more of a filler piece, to hold fans over between seasons. It's okay though, sort of like the first books in the Buffy-verse.

message 433: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 109 comments ^^ Hmmmm, I haven't yet read any books from tv shows. I have wanted to read some of the Buffy ones, but I never got around to them. I didn't even know there were SN books.

message 434: by Becca (new)

Becca (goblinfan) | 215 comments I didn't know until I stumbled across one at Barnes and Noble. Some of the Buffy ones are okay. Some...you have to be a really dedicated fan to read them. Of course, the first several or more are really short, so not much effort is needed to get through them. I think there's 5 or 6 Supernatural books out right now.

message 435: by Valorie (new)

Valorie I just finished The Down Home Zombie Blues by Linnea Sinclair a really good sci-fi romance. I'm now starting White Wolf of Avalon Werewolf Knight by Eva Gordon

Some of the Buffy books are really outstanding. Others not so much.

message 438: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (vampirebookclub) | 45 comments Finished Dead Witch Walking (Rachel Morgan/The Hollows, #1) by Kim Harrison , which despite my slower pace reading it, I really enjoyed.

I just started The Iron Daughter (Iron Fey, #2) by Julie Kagawa . I read 100 pages last night and had to fight with myself to put the book down and go to bed. (Husband didn't see the point of the struggle.) Those who loved The Iron King, know the next book begins with increased Ash drama, and, really, that's a good thing.

message 439: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 109 comments Becca and Melodie, can you tell me which Buffy books you think are the really good ones? I am a huge Buffy fan and would love to read some of them, but don't want to buy ones that aren't that great. :)

message 440: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) Spike and Dru Pretty Maids All in a Row (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) by Christopher Golden is one I really liked. I'll check what I have at home and get back to you with some more!

message 441: by Becca (new)

Becca (goblinfan) | 215 comments Carrie, I've only read the first several of the tv tie-in books, though I have more than 40 all together. The first book is basically a written version of the pilot episode. The few I've read so far are okay, but leave a lot to be desired. I'm told the later books are much better. There are of course the Angel/Buffy cross over books, which I have a couple of those. The first books are very thin, and bring to mind weak young adult stuff. The adult books start with Child of the Hunt according to the list in front of Night of the Living Rerun. Honestly, I really love the comics, especially the Omnibuses of the series, and season 8.

message 442: by Becca (new)

Becca (goblinfan) | 215 comments The ones I recommend are the Tales of the Vampire Slayer, volumes 1-4. They are collections of stories on different slayers, all through the centuries. I think there's only one or two stories that pertain to Buffy. Some are really sad, because they barely get a chance to be slayers before they die.

message 443: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 109 comments Thanks for all the info Becca and Melodie! I will have to check some of them out.

Becca, I did read the first season 8 comic, but it was on my computer so it was kind of hard for me to get into. I will have to get the graphic novels if they are out.

message 444: by Becca (new)

Becca (goblinfan) | 215 comments Just finished listening to Storm Front and I actually liked it. I checked out the two local libraries online to see if they had Fool Moon on audio but, big surprise, they do not.

I read several of the Buffy books (I'm a huge Buffy freak). I found I really enjoyed anything by Christopher Golden and Nancy Holder. My absolute favorite was the Gatekeeper Trilogy (Out of the Madhouse, Ghost Roads, and Sons of Entropy). And as Becca already mentioned, Child of the Hunt is very good too.

Out of the Madhouse (Buffy the Vampire Slayer The Gatekeeper Trilogy, #1) by Christopher Golden Ghost Roads (Buffy the Vampire Slayer The Gatekeeper Trilogy, #2) by Christopher Golden Sons of Entropy (Buffy the Vampire Slayer The Gatekeeper Trilogy, #3) by Christopher Golden Child of the Hunt (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) by Christopher Golden

message 446: by Rizzaleen (new)

Rizzaleen | 10 comments I'm currently reading the Mercy Thompson series #5. Planning to read Kitty Norville next. Any added suggestions? :D

message 447: by Paula (last edited Jul 22, 2010 05:14AM) (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I finished reading The Supernaturalist. I liked it, but the universe was depressing. I liked the supernaturalists (spotters), Cosmos, Ditto, Mona, and Stefan, but this world was controlled by a few big corporations that would do anything for power and money while the majority of people lived poor, pitiful lives. The ending was very unsatisfying. I want a sequel to this book where orphans aren't used in medical and commercial testing and the little blue fellers aren't stuck in gel.

I have started The Secret Hour and continue to read Turn Coat.

No matter which one you pick you can't go wrong. I would probably do Magic Bites first as that series is only 4 books long so you can get caught up fast, then hit the Kitty books.
