message 1056: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (imahoodieninja) | 80 comments Now reading Shadowfever (Fever, #5) by Karen Marie Moning
I don't know how anyone could have sustained the torture of waiting for these books to come out

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 822 comments Christen wrote: "Darcy, what do you think of the Stormwalker series and the Horngate Witches series?"

I really liked the first book in the Horngate Witches series and am really looking forward to this one, but have had some GR friends be really disappointed in it. So who knows what will happen to me.

I thought the Stormwalker series was a solid "good" read for a first book. I am about 1/3 of the way through the new one and think this one is better.

I can check back in after I am done with both of them.

It's okay so far. Has anyone read this series? Does it get better?"

I gave #1, 2 starts, #2, 2 stars, and #3, 3 stars. They are ok, nothing great, and forgettable when you are done.

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 822 comments These are definitely library books, you don't want to spend any money on them.

message 1060: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (carrie_a_t) | 1 comments I would really recommend The Poison Eaters Anthology. Some great Urban Fantasy stories by some great authors. I struggled to even pick a favorite story I enjoyed them all so much.

message 1061: by Becca (new)

Becca (goblinfan) | 215 comments Bought Silver Borne at walmart, because I just needed a book I know I would like. Finished it in less than two days. Not as good as the others in the series, but still much more entertaining than anything else I'm reading right now.

message 1062: by Becca (new)

Becca (goblinfan) | 215 comments Also started Deadly Night by Heather Graham. It's my first Heather Graham book, so I'm keeping an open mind so far. The book has 'paranormal' on the spine, but I'm thinking its more along the lines of paranormal romance.

message 1063: by Jupiter1 (new)

Jupiter1 | 29 comments Right now I'm reading TRUTH SEEKER by C.E. Murphy. It's really good so far.

message 1064: by Tasula (new)

Tasula | 150 comments Darcy,
I read Howling at the Moon and was not impressed, it reminded me of M J Davidson, but not as amusing. For a really good urban fantasy book w werewolves, stick to Kelley Armstrong, Carrie Vaughn, (Keri Arthur, Lori Handeland or Kresley Cole if you like para romance), Patricia Briggs, Patricia Cacek (Canyons), Charlaine Harris, Caitlin Kittredge.

message 1080: by Shelley (new)

Shelley Finished with - Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins - I really liked this book. The story was well written and the primary character very likable.

Finished with - The Sweet Scent of Blood (Spellcrackers.com, #1) by Suzanne McLeod - I liked this as well, once you get past the first 100 pages.

Finished with - Girls That Growl (Blood Coven, #3) by Mari Mancusi - Not as good as the first two, and really annoying at times with Rayne as the POV story teller.

Finished with - Must Love Hellhounds (Includes Guild Hunters, #1.5; Kate Daniels, #3.5; The Guardians, #5.5; Sookie Stackhouse, #9.2) by Charlaine Harris - 3 out of 4 novella's were really good, 1 not so good.

Next, not necessarily in order: Rebel Fay (Noble Dead, Series 1, #5) by Barb Hendee ; Darkling (Sisters of the Moon, #3) by Yasmine Galenorn ; Dead Zero (Bob Lee Swagger, #7) by Stephen Hunter ;

message 1084: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (bexsi) I have finished The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger The Time Traveler's Wife This is an exceptional book, I loved it from beginning to end. A beautiful love story with an original concept. It's deeply moving, funny, sad, intelligent and original. 5 Stars
Fool by Christopher Moore Fool This is the second Christopher Moore book I have read and TBH it has put me of starting another for a while. 3 Stars
Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, #3) by Suzanne Collins Mockingjay I really enjoyed the first two books, they were fantastic. This book felt rushed especially towards the end. It might not be as good as the others but it is still a fabulous read. 4 Stars
Wake (Dream Catcher, #1) by Lisa McMann Wake a quick and easy read 4 Stars
and I have started Beauty A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast. Robin McKinley by Robin McKinley Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast. Robin McKinley

message 1085: by Tasula (new)

Tasula | 150 comments Christopher Moore's best books are Lamb (very different from the rest of his books), The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove (where a psychiatrist decides to replace her patients' psychotropic drugs with placebos), Island of the Sequined Love Nun and Practical Demonkeeping. The rest I enjoy but not as much.
I am not sure he is really UF- he's just hilarious and demented. As is Terry Pratchett with his discworld series- esp. Making Money, Going Postal, Soul Music, The Thief of Time, and any book with Death or Susan as lead characters.

message 1086: by Ladiibbug (last edited Feb 16, 2011 06:36PM) (new)

Ladiibbug Recent UF reads:

The Black Dagger Brotherhood: An Insider's Guide - J.R. Ward

Ola Chakara wrote: "right now Im reading Fruits Basket, Volume 1 by Natsuki Takaya and Moon Called (Mercedes Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs. I hope to also finish Across the Universe and start on some other library reads."

I really like the Mercedes Thompson series :) and I think that Blood Bound (Mercedes Thompson, #2) by Patricia Briggs is even better than Moon Called (Mercedes Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs .

I've recently finished Chosen (House of Night, #3) by P.C. Cast , which was a pleasant read, and now I'm reading Fallen (Fallen, #1) by Lauren Kate .

message 1090: by Julia (new)

Julia | 615 comments I read Ironside (The Modern Faerie Tales, #3) by Holly Black which is #3 in Holly Black's series. I read books 2 & 3 a very long time ago, I needed to have have re-read the first two.

This morning I finished Night of the Living Trekkies by Kevin David Anderson which was a pretty delightful mash-up. But then I'm a Trekkie from way back. It's about a zombie outbreak at a Star Trek con.

I'm about to start The Violin of Auschwitz A Novel by Maria Àngels Anglada .

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 204 comments Finished Uprising (The Vampire Federation, #1) by Sean McCabe , which was OK. For some reason male UF authors just don't sit right with me.

Dreams of a Dark Warrior (Immortals After Dark, #11) by Kresley Cole which prooves Cole is just beyond awesome, if she's not burned out by now.

Just started Angels' Blood (Guild Hunter, #1) by Nalini Singh , which is totally rocking my world.

Shelley Finished Darkling (Sisters of the Moon, #3) by Yasmine Galenorn - Better than the first two, but still it continues to have annoying Camille involved.
