Lloyd | 110 comments While I did start A Feast for Crows (A Song of Ice and Fire, #4) by George R.R. Martin , it's hard to get into because it starts out with all new characters and viewpoints, so there's no familiarity to draw me in...yet.

However, I did start The Crane Wife by Patrick Ness . And while it started out a little rough for me, it quickly took off and I haven't been able to stop. I'm currently about 1/2 way done and can't wait to jump back in and read more! (Come on bedtime!!!) :)

Lloyd now I am reconsidering waiting to buy the Crane Wife until it is released here. I had decided to wait because Brigid didn't love it. Ugh! I thought I had my mind made up :)

Well, it might just be striking a chord with me. Storytelling is similar to A Monster Calls (in how the tale is told). I'll try and finish it up over the weekend (if I can) and let you know the final result. :)

(Either way, I still really enjoy his writing!)

Becky (bek11) | 451 comments Finally finished The Trumpeter of Krakow by Eric P. Kelly . Unless you like historical fiction or books written in the 1920's (slow plot development, etc.), I wouldn't really recommend it even though it won the Newbery.

I am almost done with The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman . This one's a lot more interesting for me.

I enjoyed the Graveyard book - the author narrates the audiobook and he is fantastic as a narrator.

I've often been disappointed in books that won the Newbery ...
I haven't read The Graveyard Book yet, though. And I do like Neil Gaiman a lot!

Charmaine (empress_charla) | 143 comments Haven't been here in a while. I hope all of you are well and having fun with your current reading choices :-)

reading Venom (Secrets of the Eternal Rose, #1) by Fiona Paul it's pretty interesting - a murder mystery, and I love the setting of renaissance Italy :-)

message 4867: by Karen’s Library (new)

Karen’s Library | 574 comments Just finished Fragments (Partials, #2) by Dan Wells . Wow. Just wow! Started The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest (Millennium, #3) by Stieg Larsson on audio and This is Not a Test by Courtney Summers for our group read. In between, I'm rereading David's Fire Country (The Country Saga, #1) by David Estes because I missed MC Siena and Perry the Prickler! ;-)

And starting Clockwork Princess (The Infernal Devices, #3) by Cassandra Clare on Tuesday for a buddy read!

Hi Charmaine!

Karen is that Partials series one I would like?? My library doesn't have This is Not a Test on audiobook so I am deciding whether to use my audible credit for it or to read it in print...

message 4869: by Karen’s Library (new)

Karen’s Library | 574 comments Heidi, the Partial series IMO is better than the ones you aren't reading! It's very well written and lots of science, action, mystery. The MC is strong and not lost in love or googly eyed at boys! Our buddy reads have loved it!

I'm about 70 pages into:

The 5th Wave (The Fifth Wave, #1) by Rick Yancey

I'm enjoying it so far. I don't know if it's as good/original as the Monstrumologist books, but I have a feeling it will probably get better as it goes along. It's still kind of setting up the story.

And Heidi, I agree with Karen that there's a good chance you'll enjoy Partials, she said it well. And like Chaos Walking it gets better as it goes and the concept of right and wrong is extremely gray and uncertain :)

Lloyd | 110 comments I'm planning on finishing up The Crane Wife by Patrick Ness today. I've been reading a lot of hype about The 5th Wave (The Fifth Wave, #1) by Rick Yancey , but despite that it sounds interesting and I'm hoping I can swing it (financially) and maybe start reading that one next. If my son is feeling better later (he wasn't sounding so great when I left for work this morning), I'm going to be at the monthly Lego mini-build tonight, but thanks to the instant gratification of downloading...I can still be reading it at bedtime tonight!

I just got it! Thanks Lloyd!

And on that note, I just opened my Nook and found a software update where B&N googlified my Nook!! Which means, I can now download and use all 700,000 google apps which includes the KINDLE app!! I'm soooo excited. I downloaded and opened it up and found several books I had bought but never finished reading because I didn't have the patience to read on my smartphone.

Woot woot!! Sooooo excited!!

Vered, your book is next! I haven't had the chance to figure out how to convert to whatever to read on my Nook. Now I don't have to worry! Easy peasy!!

"Googlified"! Love the new vocab! And let me know what you think of Dragon's Mind - and check out the You Tube (Japanese holograph singer) mentioned in the book. You won't believe it! Unless you've already seen it before... But I still think it's cool.

It's good so far. Go grab it, Heidi. I agree Gone Girl is insane..slow but good. I am on part 2...

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 65 comments It's kind of a strange books, strikes me as magical realism at this point a bit. It's very good. It's about this boy who's family moves to this island where their are magical fish with curing properties because the little brother has cystic fibrosis.

And it's very hard to describe. It's good, interesting and deep.

I'm probably about 75% done with The 5th Wave. I think you guys will like it ... it's very intense. :) I still don't think I like it quite as much as the Monstrumologist books but it's still really good.

Oh and I also started our group read last night:

I haven't read much of it but it's interesting so far.
